Cork underlayment is the natural choice for noise reduction and softer walking.

Cork is the light, thick, elastic outer bark of an oak tree that grows in the Mediterranean area. The bark naturally splits every 9 to 15 years and can be safely harvested causing no harm to the tree. Cork is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to mold and mildew.

Needed a guest bedroom floor - quick. I glued it down on a cement slab floor and polyurethaned it. A few years later, lots of guests - looks terrific!

I use cork underlayment sheets in my last project. A concrete floor level under installed hardwood flooring was bad and my customer sked me to fix it just for one day. So I remove existing wood floor and fix the floor level with piece of cork underlayment.
It was the first time when I used cork underlayment for floor leveling. It works! Highly recommend! My customer was very happy. I saved his time and money.

Comments about Dream Home 6mm 2' x 3' Cork Underlayment Sheet:

I installed this as the sole underlayment of my engineered floating floor. The cork comes in large sheets that go down easy. When cutting, use a very sharp knife, or even scissors, as cutting the cork is like cutting carpet pad. It's chunky and will chunk all over the place as you try and drag a knife through it.

The cork does a good job of insulating some sound and gives the floating floor a good amount of support. The one con I can think of is that this product comes in very inflexible 150 square foot boxes. I would have like to have purchased maybe 60 square feet at a time and not had to waste so much.

I purchased this product because I needed additional cork underlayment. The product that I had purchased could not be found locally & I opted for the Dream House Cork Underlayment. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed that a few sheets were crumbled. It looked like graham crackers. We had to pick up each sheet delicately so that it wouldn't break. Had I known, I would have waited a few weeks to purchase the other brand I had which was much stronger & durable. I would never purchase this cork nor would I recommend it.

this was great stuff. it went under our rustic maple and over a very rickety old floor-- about 100 years old. but this stuff made a wobbly floor feel super solid. it reduced noise between floors by at least half-- which is amazing. i am very glad we went with the think stuff. this makes the floor feel really solid and well made... we're super happy.

This Cork underlayment will add approx. 22db (IIC) of sound protection.
Example: A 6" concrete slab would have a fixed rating of of Approx. 27 dB (IIC).
Affixing 6mm of CORK to the concrete slab improves the overall IIC rating to 49.

                            A:

6mm cork is not recommended for nail down. 3mm cork is okay or use Bellawood Premium or Eco Silent Sound Underlayment. When using Bellawood Premium or Eco Silent Sound there is no need for additional vapor barrier.

I want to put the cork underlayment on a concrete slab and wanted to know if I use a moisture barrier adhesive, do I still need to put down a vapor barrier?

                            A:

Cork Underlayment is glued only when using it for a gluedown flooring installation.

When installing Cork under Glued Down hardwood Floors (3mm or 6mm)
Apply an approved urethane moisture barrier, correct adhesive and trowel size. After applying the moisture barrier, apply urethane adhesives to he subfloor with a trowel. Work in small sections at a time, It does not matter if the sanded side of the cork sheets is facing up or down. Roll the cork underlayment in both directions with a 100-pound floor roller to eliminate any air bubbles and to fully adhere the cork to the adhesive covered subfloor. Be sure that all joints have a slight gap when butted together. Do not begin the installation of the new flooring until the underlayment and adhesive is fully cured.

When installing Cork under Floating Floors (3mm or 6mm)
Apply plastic poly-sheeting between the cork and cement and all non-porous flooring as a moisture barrier. Starting against one wall layout the cork and cut it to the desired length. Maintain a ¼” expansion gap around all walls. Continue loose laying cork underlayment for the rest of the installation making sure that all the joints between sections cork are butted together. Tape the joints with an aggressive plastic tape during the installation of the flooring.

When installing Cork under Naildown/stapledown hardwood Floors (3mm)
Use 3mm cork underlayment when nailing down hardwood floors. Its use can enhance the floors thermal properties. However, the use of mechanical fasteners such as nails, screws or staples to adhere cork will diminish the acoustical values of cork underlayment.
