Mayflower - 3/4" x 3-1/4"  Millrun Hickory Solid Hardwood Flooring- 15 Year Warranty

Hickory greatly separates itself from other wood species by its great color variation which begins from light tan to reddish/ dark brown tones with dramatic grain patterns.
Its unique appearance, the combination of its hard density and moderate coarse open grain, make it just as appropriate in a contemporary high rise loft as it is in a log cabin.
It is also ideal for high traffic areas and kid's rooms.

What is "Millrun Grade?"
Millrun Grade has some color variation, mineral coloring and small knots. It can also be referred to as Natural, #1 or 2nd grade.

QUALITY GUARANTEE: NO formaldehyde is used in the manufacturing or construction of this flooring.

We did a lot of research on installation and were afraid that such a hard wood would present problems like splitting/cracking but the installation was easier than we expected. The boards were very straight and cut easily with high quality carbide blades. We acclimated the wood in our house for a several months before we got around to installing it and we experienced very few problems. There were a few boards that we couldn't use because the ends were not cut square from the factory and a few had bad tongues. There were also a few boards that were discolored (greenish), splotchy (looked like water spots), or we just did not care for. But the finished floor is beautiful! It was just what we had hoped for. The semi-gloss finish and color variation does not show tracked in dirt or dog hair (we have three indoor dogs.)We LOVE the color variation and the rustic charm of our new floors! We over estimated the amount of flooring we would need and plan to purchase a couple of more boxes so we can install it in our master bedroom. I do recommend tightening up any squeaky spots in the sub floor before installation and using the recommended underlayment. We used the white coated paper recommended by the salesman at Lumber Liquidators and screwed down all the squeaky places prior to install and we have NO creaks or pops described by some other reviewers.

              Service and delivery comments:

We picked our flooring up at the Lumber Liquidators in Trussville, AL. The sales staff was very helpful and recommended the proper underlayment for our situation. Customer service at the store was excellent.

Nice floors but lot of waste

              • Good Variation

              Cons

              • Lots of unusable boards

              Best Uses

The wood looks great, and there were not many defects as far as cracked boards or cracked tongues. I wound up with about 5% of the boards having some sort of blotches on them. It looked like water staining. I bought 40 boxes and wound up with about 2 full boxes worth of unusable wood.

I would recommend this product, but make sure you order extra to account for stained unusable boards.

                  Best Uses

There was a perfect blend of short and long pieces to vary the joints without the need to cut/waste boards. The variation in color is great and this hickory adds great charter. We used red rosin paper as the underlayment and now there is cracking sounds when we walk over the floor. When we refloor the rest of the upstairs I am definitely using a more substantial underlayment.

                    Best Uses

About 20% of the wood was unusable due to burn marks and bad coloration. We had to buy two more cartons of wood to make up for the large amount of waste product.

This was installed in my daughter's bedroom. A friend and I installed 160 sq. ft in about 8 hours including 2 flush mount floor registers.

The wood was mostly straight and required very little help to lay straight.

The only odd thing was that we had 4-5 pieces where the grain was vastly different than the rest of the floor and it looked like Pine or Ash instead of Hickory. I used those in the closet.

I plan on doing the hall way soon.

The worst part about this product is the 3 1/4" end of the tongue side or short side had random pieces that were out of square. These boards were hard to discover until after it was installed. Some of the tongues were not cut well and were too thick. I also had issue with several boxes that were primarily 12" to 14" in length. The look of the floor is great but you have to be careful while installing not to put down a piece that is out of square.

I used this on the main level of my home. We have a lot of traffic so durability was important. The variation in color is beautiful. I was concerned that there may be a lot of waste bc it was mill run(not best quality). I had very little waste. I have 9 boxes left and I went with less than they estimated.

Depending on your truck; approx. 32 boxes, each box weighs 65 lbs totaling 2080 lbs.
Again depends on the size of your truck (limitations).

Waste factor is an industry term that refers to an allowance for manufacturing and natural defects in flooring and is represented by a percentage. While board selection may vary according to personal preference, waste is determined by NWFA standards. Accordingly, it is warranted that no more than 5% of the total square footage of your purchase of a domestic species and 10% for exotic species or bamboo will exhibit any manufacturing or natural defects.

Lumber Liquidators recommends floating floors -flooring not attached to the subfloor- for radiant heat applications. To ensure performance, the consumer should be aware of risks associated with nailing or gluing solid wood over radiant heat and ensure product selection and installation practices are appropriate for the application. If you choose to use solid wood, select quarter-sawn or rift-sawn materials. Note that even using solid wood species with known positive dimensional *stability characteristics than others, cannot predictably be guaranteed to perform well in every application. In addition, radiant systems if not monitored and controlled properly can negatively impact the long term finish performance of wood flooring and may result in finish chipping, peeling or hazy finish.

Here are the recommended choices for in-floor heating:

Floating floors - Most recommended because these types of floorings are installed over an underlayment and not attached or fixed to the subfloor. The flooring is free to move as a total unit to better accommodate subfloor movement and environmental fluctuations (moisture and temperature).

Engineered flooring –Works well over radiant heat because its unique plywood construction creates greater stability as each wood layer is positioned perpendicular to the other thereby resisting movement from environmental fluctuations (Depending on the selection can be nailed, glued or floated over the subflooring). If choosing engineered flooring for a radiant heat application, the consumer is advised to select a product constructed using a relatively stable wood species on the top surface. Consult your local Lumber Liquidators store or customer care for assistance if needed.

Yes but only if you use Elastilon as your installation system. Otherwise a plywood subfloor base would would need to be installed.

Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment is a good option for any flat subfloor. You can use up to 3/4" thick or thinner solid or tongue and groove engineered flooring (works best with 1/2" or thicker). Floating with Elastilon needs to have an expansion break for spans over 33' on it's width, but not length.

Subfloor needs to be 3/4" plywood, PS2 rated OSB (Oriented strand board), Sturdi-Floor, or other approved hardwood flooring subfloor for naildown installation. 15lb felt paper or White Silicone paper should be used if over a basement or crawl space. For 2nd floor or higher only red rosing paper to aid installation. Insulating underlayment like Eco Sound or Bellawood Supreme may be used for naildowns.

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. In addition, we do not recommend using steamers or wet-jet cleaning systems for hardwood because spraying can collect moisture in between board edges. The use of these products is at your own risk.
