    Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

Pretty happy with our purchase. There were quite a few short boards (very short boards) and only a select few longer boards. With this being a select grain, we were anticipating more longer boards. Overall though, happy with our product. Floors look beautiful.

My installer said he loved working with this wood. I bought the recommended amount of extra wood for waste. There were no bad boards in the 20 bundles I bought. I have plenty left to make my table and my ottoman tray.

            Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

I tore down a wall between 2 bedrooms and needed to patch the wood floor of the now, 1 bedroom. LL has the BEST selection (not so sure about low prices though); local box stores just have the standard stuff. I was disappointed that more than 65% was short lengths and only about 5 boards had any size to them. The boards are also rough and need sanding, which was no biggy. Have all ready sanded and varnished, but haven't had a chance to install. Don't see any issues with that.

I needed to match the entry area and coat closet floor to a floor I laid 14 yrs ago that had square edges. I had no problem matching that with this product, but the contractor I used to sand and polyurethane the old and new floor said when he finished the job that quality of color and grain was noticibly better than that of the original Bruce flooring.

I purchased this to fill in a small part of my dining room that was water damaged years ago. We are renovating and decided the damaged area could not be refinished. I took a sample of my really old flooring to LL and the guys said it was White Oak. I bought the only pack they had. It was in great shape and matches the width and height of my existing flooring. I'd go back to them in a heart-beat.

Over all not bad product, but many peaces are not select grade. The whole purpose of the select grade is that it is checked for bad pieces. There were knots on some boards and many boards were warp so much that were unusable. Some bad peaces were marked with red marker but still included in the bundle. I'm glad I got two extra bundles to cover for the defective pieces.Bottom line you need 25-30% extra in order to get to the select grade quality. If it wasn't to match an existing floor I would not go with this product.

                      OWNER/INSTALLER RESPONSIBILITIES
Exotic and domestic hardwoods are beautiful and unique products of nature characterized by distinctive variations in grain pattern and color. These natural variations are not flaws; rather they make up the natural beauty and uniqueness of hardwood flooring. These inherent variations should be expected, only topically stained products will have the most uniformity in color or shade. Our floors are manufactured in accordance with accepted industry standards, which permit a defect tolerance not to exceed 5%. Defects can be of a manufacturing or natural type. When flooring is ordered, depending on layout or species, a 8 - 12% extra material should be added to the actual square footage amount needed for board selection and cutting. Diagonal layouts or custom installations usually require about 15% more. During installation any boards deemed unacceptable should be replaced using the extra ordered. The use of sandable and stainable wood filler for correcting defects in unfinished wood during installation is accepted as normal procedure. Board width variances are considered normal. To minimize board edge gapping, board widths greater than 1/16” should be selected out and used together all in the same row or placed in closets or near walls. The customer/installer assumes responsibility for final inspection of product quality. Carefully examine the flooring for color, finish and quality before installing. Use reasonable selectivity and judgment, select out or cut off pieces with glaring defects. If more than 5% of the material is unusable contact your local store or call CUSTOMER CARE 800-366-4204 immediately. Before beginning the installation the installer must determine if job site and subfloor conditions are acceptable. Installers must be up-to-date with installation procedures.
