  • Q:

How long does engineered wood need to acclimate to the inside prior to putting it down?

ACCLIMATION/CONDITIONING OF THE FLOORING After harvesting, engineered wood flooring is kiln-dried for optimum service. Wood is hygroscopic, meaning its size and shape changes with the absorption or release of moisture. The amount of change varies with wood species, cut, and type of flooring. Therefore, controlling wood moisture content (mc) is important for success. First, acclimate the new flooring inside the home in consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Using a reliable species specific moisture meter, measure the moisture of the wood subfloor and flooring. The difference between the moisture of the wood subfloor and wood flooring should not exceed 4% (See moisture testing) Continue to acclimate the flooring until you meet these requirements. The length of acclimation time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is to reach a balance between the core of the new flooring with its surroundings before assembly, fastening or installation. Depending on your local in-home conditions the use of humidification/dehumidification equipment to maintain proper in-home environment is strongly recommended. Never install wood flooring in rooms or homes that are not climate controlled. Acclimation is the responsibility of those overseeing the project. Not following the above recommendations can negatively impact board performance and can result in excessive movement, squeaks, board gapping, board-edge cupping, finish and other related issues.

  • Q:

I was interested in the Bella American Walnut engineered floor. But it is rated as a very soft wood. I wanted to put this throughout the house except the kitchen. Will this floor hold up well and look good years from now.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

  • Q:

My wife and I have just purchased a new house and have decided to install hardwood flooring throuhgout (inlucding the kitchen). My wife likes the feel of solid hardwood floors but I feel that engineered hardwood is a must if being installed in the kitchen. Could you please give us some insight on what would be the best solution before we end up killing eachother.

  • Q:

How many top finish coats have been applied to this product?
    Asked on 7/17/2012 by Barb

Our Bellawood floors are factory pre-finished with an aluminum oxide water-base urethane using a multi-step application process. (8) coats are applied to most domestic and exotic wood species and each coat is hard-cured using Ultraviolet (UV) light. Bellawood pre-finished flooring offers superior wear resistance and is backed by a limited 100-year warranty! (The exact formula is propietary information) The formula for the Bellawood finish is a custom mix that has a 50/50 gloss. The sheen you get is shinier than satin, but not as shiny as semi -gloss.
The average dry film thickness for Bellawood is about 3.65 mils – one of the highest in the industry.
Maintaining the appearance of any wood floor requires close attention to in-door climate controls during seasonal changes.
