Mis-Matched Bull Nose/T-Molding

Comments about Brazilian Cherry Laminate Stair Nose:

We got 2 t-molds and 2 stair nose pieces of the brazilian cherry to match our laminate flooring that didn't have their own matching moldings. The t-molding matches perfectly, which is what they initially pulled to show us. When we opened up the bull nose it looked like it was a different lot/finish... something was just a little different. It isn't a huge difference but definitely noticable when right next to eachother. So, I would just reccommend comparing all the pieces you buy next to each other, before cutting, in case you need to take them back. Also, one of our t-molds came with a metal liner and the other came with a plastic (I would definitely reccommend the metal)-- just another reason to take a close look at everything before purchasing. It's too bad the people that work there don't double check for you; seems like it would waste less of their time in the long run.

Comments about Brazilian Cherry Laminate Stair Nose:

I had hoped for this floor to look more like actual wood. It was easy to install, and it is easy to clean. I simply didn't know enough about the product before purchasing..had I known, I definitely would have purchased engineered or actual hardwood. As it is currently, my living room looks like a giant kitchen or, even worse, like a roller skating rink with couches.

Like a previous customer, I would like to know:
            1) What is the depth (front to back) of stair molding SKU#10012737? 2) What should be the space from the front face of the riser to the laminate which will be overlayed by the nose?
Can you send or post a profile drawing of these dimensions?
            Thanks,

You will want to hold back the cut edge of the laminate 1- 5/8" from the riser edge.

Measure the length of each step and figure how many steps you can get out of each 7' 6" nosing and order enough lengths to do the job.
              Thank you for your inquiry.

          • Q:

What do you use for the riser and how do you install it? Does the riser rest on the tread below or does the tread but up to the riser?

Also, does the stair nose need to be screwed down? If so how often and what type of screws are recommended and how to you hide the screws after installation? If they are supposed to be left visible that is a pretty bad option. Are there special screws that will at least match the color of the wood?

you mention that the stair nose and laminate should be glued to the tread, and do not use padding under the laminate when applying to stairs. confused

              A:

Some floating laminate flooring has padding attached, this needs to be removed when using on stairs for adhesive to stick. Laminate without padding attached generally needs underlayment padding except when used on stairs. Many installers frown on the use of laminate on full stair cases, local building codes should also be checked.

              A:

The laminate is glued to the plywood treads and risers with a urethane wood flooring adhesive. If the laminate has a pad attached it will have to be removed. The pad will not bond to the adhesive. Cut the laminate to fit the length of the treads and risers. The front edge of the tread will be finished with the laminate stair nosing. The stair nosing is screwed and glued to the tread. The installation should start at the bottom of the steps working your way to the top. Install the riser first and then the tread and finish off with the stair nosing. Do this for each step until you reach the top to the stairs. Make sure you have the stair nosing on site before you begin installation.

          • Q:

I recently installed laminate wood flooring in my upstairs loft and I would really like to install it on my stairs. I have about 14 steps. the first ten then a 180 degree turn and the last 4. I need the stair nose for the steps. Will i need to special order flush mounted stair noses for the steps and the regular stair nose for the top step?
