We use it on the 1st floor of the house in all rooms. Great color/texture/appearance. Complements the painting job; the top mouldings; the base boards; and the cabinets we have in our kitchen. It also goes perfectly with our oak furniture in the great room and the dining area.

For my application(our 2nd floor master bdr and closets, and 2nd flr hallway), my contractor had the wood down and completed quickly over the existing subfloor in large areas, with the "fussier" cuts in hallway and closet requring more precision and time.

There were many non-matching boards of various colors and striations as well as defective boards with color markings, large holes and dents (even filled in with wood putty). Some of the beveled edges did not match up either. I recommend this floor as an inexpensive way to floor a room that is not visible to eye.

                Best Uses

When installing this product I found the end tongues many times not milled clean. I had to take a utility knife to complete the cut. I also found several boards cut inconsistently in width. I also had inquired about the amount of short boards to expect in each box and found out that there were a lot more than normally anticipated.

                              Stairs add nice finished look.

Pre-finished solid wood eases my mind knowing I can refinish later date after dogs get to it.

Overall the floor looked good and came out nice. it nicked a little easier then I thought it would. I was hoping it would have been harder. In general I'd say there were too many small boards - less than 18 in. I was able to keep waste to a minimum by using bad boards in closets and starting rows with the small boards so i ended up with about one box of waste out of 20 not counting end pieces i cut off. Not too many unusable boards. The fit was mostly good except on the short end of the boards. About 10-15% of those weren't milled correctly and I had to stop and clean off the tongue so it would fit in the groove. That really slowed me down. I got stuck with one box that they wouldn't take back. Beware of the 30 day retrun policy and only returning unopened boxes. They told me about the unopend boxes when I asked about returns but not the 30 day poicy. It is written on the invoice but who reads those. For a place that caters to DIYers you'd think they'd be more flexible, especially when they tell you to let it sit in the house for a week. Three weeks is not enough time to finish large projects working weekends only.

                              Service and delivery comments:

Didn't like the 30 day return policy. not enough time if you;re doing a big project DIY.

When we picked up the floor we thought is was more than we needed, but industry says to get 20% for cuts and scrap. I would have to disagree as we had to return one full box and I still have half a box for fix-ups and half a box of stuff that should never be allowed to be sold. My husband and I did the 420 squ ft. in 3 days and it looks great. He would use the nail gun and I would hold and jigsaw puzzle the next row. We only cut 5 pieces and we still have leftover. It is a lot of hard work but it looks so wonderful. I won't let anyone walk on it yet...So go ahead and buy it and install it, it is super looking....

This product was used to replace carpeting through out the main level of a townhouse. While the floor looks beautiful, I was disappointed in the quality of this product. I've used this brand before and was very satisfied. However, this time I specifically upgraded to 'select' quality to avoid 'mill-run' imperfections. What I got, was full of worm holes and imperfections. Some boards looked as if they had been hit with buckshot, they were so loaded with holes. The waste factor proved excessively high. Needless to say, I will avoid this brand in the future.

For 3/4 solid plank flooring are 18gauge cleats recommended? I know 16 gauge are stronger, but the 18 gauge can help prevent dimpling, I understand. Will they still hold the planks to a secure substrate?

Oak can be installed with either 16 gauge cleats,15.5 gauge staples, or 18 gauge cleats. Although 18 gauge is usually reserved for harder exotic woods.

Natural Grade flooring contains distinct variations in coloration and varying wood characters. Natural grade flooring will have a slightly longer average plank length compared to Rustic grade products. Can be between 1-6 feet on average.

Yes you can, provided you run the new flooring diagonally over the existing hardwood. When running the new flooring in the same direction as the existing hardwood the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends adding a layer of real plywood of at least 3/8” in between the new and the existing hardwood floor. This allows both floors to expand and contract in relation to humidity without affecting the other. ¼” Luan is not recommended for nail down applications because it is not a structure board.
