Used trowel and adhesive to apply laminate to ceilings that are between 15 to 17 foot tall-- I will not have to paint them ever and will periodically use a dust mop to dust them down and keep right on smiling-- thanx, they look great--[...] proof that it has been done and can be done

                A:

It is recommended to run the new wood flooring perpendicular over the old (or add a 3/8" minimum CDX first).

            • Q:

I know that this is one of the hardest woods available, but i'm wondering if the thinness of this wood affects it's resistance to denting. I know that very often with engineered floors even the hardest woods dent and scratch extremely easily. I realize this wood is thicker than an engineered but it is still significantly thinner that a 3/4 plank. So despite the JANKA rating being the same i'm wondering if realistically there are some disadvantages to a thinner plank

                A:

I suppose that this thinner 5/16" low profile product may dent easier than a full 3/4" product but will perform better than an engineered product with a thin top veneer.

Can this product be used on walls such as wainscoting? I have another idea for you. Fabricate a 1/2" wide or so piece of holly (T & G) to install beside each plank to give a teak and holly look. Thanks.

Yes it could be used in this way but is considered experimental and cannot be warrantied for this application.

We have personally installed this flooring in 2 bedrooms so far. We are about to start on the Master Bedroom, which has a small office area with computer. What type chair mat is best to use to prevent the rolling office chair from marring the floor surface? What types should be avoided so as not to discolor the wood?

I would just google chair mats for hardwood floors to find a recommended type to protect your wood flooring.
I am not aware of any to be avoided.

This is indeed real Teak wood but this pre-finished solid wood flooring is not designed to be installed in a shower or wet area.
I cannot recommend this product for your application.

            • Q:

For the top nailing of the boards near the wall we used a Porter Cable finish nailer with 2" 16 gauge nails (FN16200). Even though the nail was in the center (width-wise) and a couple of inches from one end, it split the board. Not all the way up to the surface but still noticeable. Is it common to use a thinner gauge nail/top-nailer on these boards. I'm using a 20 gauge cleat floor nailer and that only occasionally splits a tongue.

Yes it is. I always recommend pre-drilling and hand nailing on exotic species to prevent the boards from splitting.
