Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

Pros

  • Very Hard And Sturdy

    • Heavy Traffic Area's

This is the best floor for high traffic areas. I live steps from the beach and sand does not scratch this floor. Been installed for 6 months and couldn't be happier.

We liked the floor so much we changed the scope. We are now installing it throughout the house - including the kitchen, living room and 3 bedrooms. A great and durable floor for our family - with kids and pets. The only challenge that we had was making specialized cuts in the bamboo -- the bamboo is hard.

    Excellent product

    By Jim

    from OH

The wood is harder than most so it was a little more difficult to get it nailed but it was well worth the extra effort. The look is rustic--with more browns with black accents than gold or red tones. It doesnt really look like the other bamboo products. It was a perfect choice for our bedroom and office--I think it is going to hold up very well.

    Service and delivery comments:

No issues with service or delivery--it was a very smooth, efficient process. This is my second big purchase with Lumber Liquidators and we couldn't be happier with the process.

I had a picture in my head how this would look once installed and it exceeds my imagination! The colors are rich, beautifully smooth wood, and super easy to keep clean. I only wish we had a larger area to put it in...380 square feet just isn't enough for me

      • Q:

Can the Hashan strand Bamboo be sanded and refinished?
Asked on 5/6/2013 by Patti from Plymouth Ma

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

FA-8 Floor Abrader is used to refinish hand scraped flooring. This should work on wire brushed flooring however a refinishing expert with experience in bamboo should be consulted. Generally Bamboo can be sanded and refinished.

      • Q:

can this bamboo flooring be installed over tile? And if so, how?

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

You can glue to well secured flat level ceramic tile or concrete free of contaminates, moisture and sealers. When sealers are suspected you can have false bond issues; either abrade, scarify, or bead blast the finish or remove the existing tile.

Yes it can. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.

Can this be used in a damp and often humid zone e.g., rainforest in Hawaii?
Asked on 2/28/2013 by lindasue from Kailua, Hawaii

          A:

          Thank you for writing in.
All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

          Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.

can this bamboo flooring be used in a livingroom that has a coal stove for heat being that coalstove's have a very dry heat. or do i need to add a humidifer
Asked on 2/19/2013 by dan from pa

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

After harvesting, bamboo flooring is kiln-dried for optimum service. During transit, delivery and storage, bamboo flooring must be protected from moisture. Bamboo is hygroscopic, meaning its size and shape changes with the absorption or release of moisture. The amount of change varies with species, cut, and type of flooring. Therefore, controlling bamboo moisture content (mc) is important for success. First, acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed to the expected environment that the floor will service while in the boxes. To speed up the acclimation processes or if products are packaged in plastic, open the ends of the boxes. Remove any plastic that is around the outside of boxes. To prevent board warping, twisting or bowing do not cut the plastic support packaged bindings or remove product from the cardboard packaging until ready to install. The length of acclimation time is not the determining factor. The goal is to reach an indoor equilibrium or balance between the core of the new flooring with its surroundings before assembly, fastening or installation. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days for most products or longer extended conditioning is not unusual for very dense species like strand bamboo and others. For best performance, condition and maintain the flooring to consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Depending on your local jobsite situations the use of a dehumidifier or a humidifier may be necessary to maintain the desired results. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning to balance the bamboo to the environment it will service. Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation, moisture testing of the subfloor and new flooring all work together for the success of the installation, and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project. Not following the above recommendations can negatively impact board performance and can result in excessive movement, squeaks, board gapping, board-edge cupping, finish and other related issues. This is especially true regarding flooring in seasonal or vacation homes without proper indoor climate conditions.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Strand bamboo is very durable and with it's 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch finish.

Regardless of the floor you choose, keeping nails trimmed is a good idea. Another idea is to cover nails with vinyl claw covers.

Proper care always helps. For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often. Urine, when cleaned up quick isn't an issue but if left to dry it can burn finish.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find it here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19
