About Morning Star Bamboo:
By harvesting only "old growth" bamboo, we are able to provide flooring with increased hardness, so it will better withstand the rigors of everyday life in your home. Our factory-applied SEVEN-LAYER TOP COAT FINISH includes two layers of tough, SCRATCH-RESISTANT aluminum oxide.

About Bamboo:
Bamboo floors' popularity has increased over the past few years as people have become more aware of the fragile state of the environment.
Because it is a grass rather than a wood, it grows far more quickly than a tree. The plant's extensive root system continually grows underground and it replenishes itself naturally, as grass does.
New growth, which springs out of the ground and can mature up to 24" in  24 hours and unlike trees, bamboo will regenerate quickly, making it a renewable resource.

Natural: Bamboo in its natural, unstained state.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Horizontal Natural Bamboo:

Installs just like hardwood. Wish it were 3/4 instead of 5/8 but I knew that going in. Scratched a half dozen boards when a felt foot picked up a plaster pebble.
Bought the Norge 18 ga flooring nailer as well and very glad I did. Nailed in the 1st 3 and last 3 rows with it, face nailed the 1st and last row only.
This stuff is very hard, at 110 lb on the nailer it barely drove the nails below the surface.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Horizontal Natural Bamboo:

I installed this bamboo flooring throughout my whole house except the wet areas of the house (bath, kitchen, etc.). Originally I only purchased enough bamboo to do some of the bedrooms, but it turned out so nice that I decided to purchase more bamboo to finish the rest of the house. The first bamboo purchase I made was manufactured in 2012. It was very good quality and was easy to install (no warped or cracked boards). The second purchase of bamboo flooring I made to finish my house was manufactured in 2010. The quality of this bamboo was not as good and it was more difficult to install. Some of the boards were warped and some were cracked on the ends making them unusable. I ended up with much more waste with the 2010 manufacture date just because some of the product was simply unusable. In the end as a whole all of the floors in my house turned out looking very good.

      Service and delivery comments:

The service from Lumber Liquidators in Pensacola was outstanding. Keep up the good work.

Got sold the wrong product, which was the 3/8 inch product named here - thought I was getting the 5/8" that I ordered. Manager at the store corrected the other worker's mistake.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Horizontal Natural Bamboo:

We put this bamboo in our kitchen and family room (one large, open area). We had initially wanted tile, but our contractor warned that our 1950s pier & beam house would likely settle and cause a tile floor to buckle and crack tiles. He recommended bamboo instead for its flexibility, beauty and durability. Two years later, I could not be happier with our decision. All this flooring needs to look spectacular is a quick daily once-over with a quality treated dust mop. And that's really great because we have two small children and a dog, and this flooring is in the area of our house where we spend the most time. If you like a uniform color to your floor, I'd still recommend this brand, but I'd go with one of the pricier selections. We chose this one in particular because we thought the color variance was charming and "funky." Either way, you'll be pleased -- it's truly beautiful, and it can take a beating and still stay that way. My floor's daily traffic consists of two kids, a dog and a pair of high heels. Two years later, it's as gorgeous as the day it was installed. I even once dropped a knife by accident, and the blade landed right in the middle of one of the planks. When I pulled it out (terrified, of course that I'd have to replace the whole plank), you couldn't even tell there had been a knife stuck in it. How many floors can be stabbed and still look amazing? Seriously! You will not be unhappy if you put this flooring in your house. It will not let you down. (Which, let's face it, is the most important quality a floor can have. ;-)

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Horizontal Natural Bamboo:

I am almost done putting this in my entire house (except in the bathrooms). I absolutely love the look. The color variations are rather large, but that adds character to the floor.

One thing I did not expect was that the pieces would be beveled at the end joints...the result is that it does not look like they meet tightly. However, I got used to that really fast. I love the feel of the bamboo when I walk on it.

I already have some small dents in the floor...but I knew that the wood would not be super hard, so I knew what to expect...can't complain!

I had floor installed in kitchen by contractors. It went down easily and resulted in great look. Scratching is my only concern as already I see some evidence which must have occurred as being carefully installed.....not even typical wear and tear.

                    A:

Yes, hardwood is acceptable for installation in a kitchen or a powder room. It is recommend to put a throw rug by the sink because an excess water can damage wood. You will need to wipe up any water that sit on the floor as soon as possible. However a full bathroom that is showered in everyday may not be the best location for hardwood. Often there is too much water on the floor or humidity that can be absorbed into the flooring resulting in board edge cupping. Engineered floors are a better choice for these areas.

                    A:

                    Regulations and Lumber Liquidators’ Compliance
The California Air Reform Bill (CARB) requires that products containing Hardwood Plywood Veneer Core (HWP-VC), Hardwood Plywood Composite Core (HWP-CC), Particleboard and MDF be tested for emissions and products not meeting the strict standards for emissions may not be sold in California.

The Environmental Protection Agency has drafted national standards for formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products that are similar to those of California. Those standards have not yet been enacted.

All laminates and engineered flooring products sold by Lumber Liquidators are purchased from mills whose production method has been certified by a Third Party Certifier approved by the State of California to meet the CARB standards. The scope of the certification by the Third Party Certifier includes the confirmation that the manufacturer has implemented the quality systems, process controls, and testing procedures outlined by CARB and that their products conform to the specified formaldehyde emission limits. The Third Party Certifier also provides ongoing oversight to validate the manufacturers’ compliance and manufacturers must be periodically re-certified.

Though it currently applies only to products sold in California, Lumber Liquidators made a decision to require all of our suppliers to comply with CARB regardless of whether we intended to sell the products in California or any other state/country. In addition, our suppliers manufacture their products in accordance with the European standard which has stricter guidelines than the California.

In addition to the CARB requirements, Lumber Liquidators regularly selects one or more products from each of its suppliers and submits them for independent third-party lab testing. This is done as a monitoring activity to validate ongoing compliance.

I have this flooring throughout my entire house except the bathrooms and kitchen. I have noticed some separation in some of the boards. Any recommendations on fixing or replacing the boards with the spacing issue? The previous owner installed the flooring.

Does bamboo expand and contract like normal hardwood floors . . . being that it is a grass as opposed to an actual wood?

Being a natural product yes it still will expand and contract like a wood floor.

I'm looking to install this flooring on a concrete subfloor. If I use a 15lb felt underlayment, where is the glue to be used? Concrete to felt, felt to flooring, or both?

Use a 15lb felt would not be applicable in a glue down application, use of a moisture barrier adhesive is recommended.

We are having bamboo flooring put down in our living room and three hallways. The installer is using the black felt under the flooring. He will be removing the particle board subfloor and be to the plywood for the surface. Do you think the black felt will work o.k. He will be nailing the floor down .

Can bamboo engineered wood floors be installed over radiant heated floors? I understand Maple and brazilian Cherry are too unstable and should be avoided over radiant heated flooring, but I want to make sure the bamboo properties are such that it can take well moisture and heat variation before I rip the carpet off the bedrooms! Thanks!
