Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors. Hardwood Flooring: We do it right! Lumber Liquidators' solid hardwood floors are a "green" choice in comparison to other flooring options such as carpet, which needs to be replaced often and is not usually recycled. Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Knob Hill Birch Handscraped:
We purchased and instaled this wood a little over two years ago. Overall, it has held up well. However, about six months ago we got a medium/large breed dog and the flooring has not held up to the scratches. We knew birch wasn't the hardest wood, however, this floor scratches very very easily and because of the dark shade, the scratches show. I don't mind some dings and dents, but these are enough to drive any mild perfectionist crazy. Also, we purchased in two seperate batches, and the color is slightly off. The second batch looks much more manufactured and is a purpleish hue. I wouldn't reccomend this to anyone with dogs.

We installed our hardwoods 3 years ago prior to rescuing a yellow lab. The floors were gorgeous and held up perfectly for the first year when he wasn't a part of our household. Birch is on the lower half of the Janka hardness rankings which we now know is accurate. His nails have left so many grooves in the wood it is extrememly noticeable which isn't helped by the fact that the wood is dark. It really is a pretty hardwood and it was very easy to install but if you have a big dog or plan at some point to get one I would not recommend this product.

Bought to use as a facing material for my custom home bar I'm building. Didn't want to mess with buying walnut or maple boards and having to go through the tedious process of staining and applying poly. I wanted a rich brown wood with great texture in appearance - boy did this stuff deliver. Has taken bumps from bar stools and feet kicking it and still looks great - not sure how it handles foot traffic, but from what I've seen, should do well in most home applications. Sorry, no pics yet, not quite finished, will try to upload once fully done.
My one piece of advice is to go to a local Lumber Liquidators store and see the color, texture, edge profile, and finish for yourself - it has more of a matte finish and darker color than may appear online. Still, I love my purchase.

Installed this floor for my daughters nursery over 18 months ago. It is beautiful and has held up very well over since installation.
Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Knob Hill Birch Handscraped:
Due to circumstances not directly related to Lumber Liquidator's product
we found ourselves not using their services. I want to leave a positive message to others about the company and their willingness to understand "our point of view". That they, without hassle are returning our payments. Their attitude leaves me with full respect of their business practices and a
willingness to recommend them for anyone considering a flooring project.
Their store manager (Josh) was very knowledgable, helpful and courteous.

The beveled edges of each plank really make this wood stand out when it's finished. The first thing that people compliment in my freshly finished basement are these floors.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Knob Hill Birch Handscraped:
I installed this product in my living room and hallway. It was not to terribly hard to install but not necessarily for the DIYer. Flooring did have some warping and the tongue and groove was extremely hard to secure. I had about 25 peices that were anywhere from 1/32nd to 1/16th narrower on top than any of the other boards. The narrow peices caused me to have gaps in the overlaps of the next boards and required lots of filling and staining.

Q:
What is the best way to clean VMHS solid knob hill birch?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.Q:
Where is this product made??1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
This flooring is made in China. Our Bellawood flooring is manufactured in the USA as well as as our 10mm Laminate.Q:
Knob Hill Birch 10011322, the LL site spec does not indicate glue down, yet, the LL pamphlet indicates that it can be, which is correct, can it be glued using Mapei 995?1 answer
A:
Yes this flooring can be glued down, as these are considered shorts (under 36" in length). These should only be installed on or above-grade. Lumber Liquidators recommends 100% urethane flooring adhesives and moisture barriers.Q:
I have several cats and sometimes accidents go unnoticed. Is this flooring able to hold up to this type of wear/abuse?1 answer
A:
Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.Q:
Is there a sealant that I can use on my laminate flooring1 answer
A:
Laminate flooring is a cost effective, attractive alternative to real hardwood but with certain limitations. Laminate floors are a mixture of resin and other ingredients applied over an image of wood. Although sealing the new floors is an option for laminate owners, it's not recommended. Laminate flooring is designed to withstand scratches and pressure on its own; therefore, adding coats and sealants may void the warranty, cause additional problems or easily flake off. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
Can I install the heating wires with it?1 answer
A:
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the specs tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdfQ:
