Morning Star Bamboo- 1/2" x 5" Stained Solid Click Strand Kobra Bamboo Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Easy Floating "Click-Together" installation
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

      Stay AWAY!

Where to begin... We renovated our entire house with this flooring for 2 reasons: we loved the color and it was relatively inexpensive for a wood floor.
Installation was easy since it's a floating floor, but it really doesn't sit very well (responds too much to humidity/creaks a lot). The other posts are spot on with how easily this stuff scratches; and not only scratches, but scratches pure white so it shows much more than a regular scratch. That's our major issue with it. It's been installed for about 6 months now and the light scratches are starting to blend together a bit so it's not as bad, but still a shame. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have gone with engineered hard wood instead. They seem to be more reliable, as bamboo is so new still.
Color does show all dust and dirt, but that just means you'll have to keep it clean!

Other than the amazing color, the ONLY reason I went with this wood, is because I was assured that it was pretty much impossible to dent and scratch it. That sounded perfect, because my husband and I want kids within a year or two. That was a flat out LIE. The non-sharp plastic on my Swiffer left a HUGE, DEEP gash in the wood. Any furniture legs will scratch. Little grains of dirt/sand under your feet will scratch.

We got married and purchased our very first house in a 4 day period. This flooring was our very first investment into our house, and we did our WHOLE house with it, and it was the worst mistake ever =( It's a shame, too, because the color is soo gorgeous.

Great looking floor. Installed in two bedrooms, really gives an upscale look to the room. The floor is dark and has a sheen to it, so every spec of dust/dirt and dog hair shows which requires constant cleaning.

If you're looking for dark-colored flooring, this looks beautiful. Has a dark brown to almost black look and gets compliments all the time. I have it installed in my living room and it looks amazing in contrast to the white baseboards. Looks more dark brown in the light and closer to black when it's dark.

If all you care about is aesthetics, this floor is for you. The downside is it shows everything and is very difficult to keep clean! If that is going to drive you crazy, you might want to think twice before installing it!

                      Best Uses

honestly, it looks nice, if you stand far away. But our guests can see all the scratches, because any little thing SCRATCHES it. for example, i walk in from outside, the random stuff on under my shoe will even scratch it (like SAND).

it's ridiculous. we tried to find a way to protect it, put a coat of something on it, but then the manufacturer said we can't do that...else the warranty is void. So we just have to watch as scratches keep happening. It's even worse in the kitchen, if you spill any liquid, it leaves water stains etc. It's just a headache.

                        AVOID THIS ONE.

My contractor wanted to know where I purchased this floor given the ease of install and ability to obtain it immediately - unlike the Big Box Stores. When we went to redo another room he asked if we would be using the same bamboo given the amazing, rich look and quality - he took pictures and was impressed.

We put this floor in our kitchen and den. This flooring scratches so easily. We are thinking of replacing it after only two years. We aren't hard on the floor at all. I would never buy this floor ever again. I have oak hardwood in the rest of my house, and have no problems with it, and it's over 50 years old. We should have bought oak.

Depends on the glue used, T&G adhesive = water, urethane based adhesive = mineral spirits. always use a soft cloth and buff dry immediately.
Always refer to the clean-up recommendations on the glue container.

We do not recommend bamboo for radiant heat systems. Wood engineered flooring can work when the surface temperature of the subfloor never exceeds 85°F in any location. Read instructions carefully for any selected engineered flooring for radiant heat.

Can this product withstand 200 degree heat? I am planning on placing it under my range and the range instructions call for flooring to withstand 200 degrees. Is this product safe for installing under ranges?

I haven't heard of this type of heat requirement for any flooring being installed under a range in my 30+ years of experience in the industry. Usually heat and clearance restrictions are from the cook top surface.
To answer your question this product is recommended to be kept between 60 & 90 degrees F.

Lumber Liquidators does not recommend "Water brooms" "Wet-Jet Swiffers or steamer type cleaners on laminates, corks or hardwood floors. Although steamers may work well cleaning OTHER types of hard surface flooring, the 130° to 240° heated steam vapor can ruin wood or urethane finish resulting in warped or cupped flooring. Water and wood do not mix well, especially steam. Use these products at your own risk.

We don't recommend using a iRobot Scooba because it puts down water and could damage the floor or scratch the finish. We recommend using a water base urethane cleaning kit . That can be purchased at our local Lumber liquidators store or any Home Center.

we have had this flooring in our house for the past 6 months and have been using Bona floor cleaner to clean it, which has worked the best to clean and leave streak free finish.

Bona Polish may be fine however use at your own risk. Because we haven't officially tested it, you should talk to Bona for recommendations on how to remove if something goes wrong during the application.

                                          A:

Bamboo has an average hardness of some 1320 PSI when compared with Northern Red Oak at 1290 PSI, the standard as tested according to the (Janka) testing standards of the National Wood Flooring Association. Bamboo is a very dense grass and is therefore not held to the same hardness standards of solid wood. Published testing results vary greatly and merely provide consumers with reasonable “Product Expectations” before purchase.

In addition, the carbonization or steaming process of some styles to yield richer hues can reduce the hardness results to 1010 PSI, the approximate strength of walnut. Therefore true bamboo hardness can vary between that of Hard Maple or Heart Pine. Strand or woven products like this flooring are substantially harder, about 2000 PSI.

Taking precautions such as: applying felt pads under furniture legs, sweeping or vacuuming often, using rugs or walk-off mats, or even enacting a “no-shoes in the home” policy as much as reasonably possible, are the best methods of protecting your floors.
