Lisbon Cork- 13/32" x 11-5/8" x 35-5/8" Medina Cork Flooring

Quick Highlights:
DURABILITY - 25 year warranty same as traditional hardwood.
DESIGN - Architects, Designers and Home Owners love the color pallet and fashion patterns of cork.
COMFORT -  Cork is resilient which relives stress in the back and legs when standing on our floors.
WARMTH - Cork takes on the temperature of the room. Great for warm or cold climates.
QUIET - Cork is great for sound deadening due to the honeycomb cell structure of the bark. This reduces sound within the room as well as between floors in multi-level structures.
EASY MAINTENANCE -  Just sweep and spot clean for many years of use.

Lisbon Cork Co. Ltd. Fine Cork Flooring combines the beauty of a natural material with the comfort of a cushioned surface. It is durable, acoustical, and a great insulator.  The bark of the cork tree is peeled without destroying the tree and it grows back within nine years, ready to be harvested again. Warm to the touch and resilient, cork floors are a joy to live with. Cork is considered a green product because the same tree can be harvested numerous times.

Use of Underlayments:
Our Lisbon floating cork can be installed with or without an underlayment. However, superior thermal and sound isolation qualities can be achieved when installing over an underlayment. When doing so Lumber Liquidators recommends the use of the following underlayments: Bellawood Platinum, Bellawood Premium, ECO Silent Sound, Insulayment and Quiet Walk. These quality underlayments best support the locking joints and are highly recommended for use with condominium associations, project planners and building specifiers.

I would buy again

I watched different video's on YouTube before the LL version. They were doing a surface with no underlayment, makes a difference. When putting the long ends together, I wasn't using a steep enough angle on the piece to be installed, so now I have a spot that sags when walked on. My advise is to start with the long side inserted with your bar on the edge, as you tap the bar along the edge, move the bar, tap, lower piece as tapping. By the time the new piece is flat, it will be about where you want it, or just some small taps. Sliding the small ends together be careful not to ruin the edge. When doing either side, do not hit them too hard or you will not get a nice flat seam. On underlayment the flooring slides very easy, so be sure to block the ends so the whole coarse doesn't move. I didn't measure my room and then start out with a ripped piece, and I saved some material in doing so. Used a sliding miter saw, and table saw. Go slow, have fun, and good luck, you will love the floor.

Really pleasantly surprised at how this came out, floor went over an existing asbestos floor in an industrial building that I don't want to touch. Worked perfectly, and feels great. This was my first floor, and had no trouble installing. I'm hoping the floor survives a long time with me dropping heavy machine tools on it, but we will see. Cut with jig saw and circular saw no problem.

Looks good - Hard to Install

          • Difficult to Install

          Best Uses

It is very difficult to get the panels to click together based on the instructions that come with the flooring. It took about a full day before I developed my own system which allowed them to click together relatively easily. I did 600 square feet. The first 200 sq ft took about 2 to 3 full minutes per piece, sometimes longer, to get them to snap together. By the final 200 sq ft, it was probably 30 seconds a piece. The final piece in each row is tough as well. In the end, the final product looks good. The 600 square feet took about 16 to 20 hours to install.

            Service and delivery comments:

The actual flooring arrived on time for store pick-up. The transition plates arrived a week later, so I had to make another trip just to get 7' of plate.

Took awhile to figure out how to click in both the long and short sides. The instruction video is very helpful. In the end produced a very uniform floor with tight, nearly invisible joints in a fairly short amount of time. Having to click both the long and short sides means it is impossible to lay it under door jambs after the first row. I removed door moldings and baseboards.

Poor directions on package and from local store on how to install this product. It was next to impossible to interlock the sheets in both directions and get a tight seam (in both directions. Ended up using a block of wood along the outer edge and giving a solid hit with a mallet to get the seams tight. Called store to get help during install and they were unable to help at all (said to come into store with floor and they could help from there)/

This flooring was easy to install and looks great. Unfortunately, there has been a sweet odor in the room ever since it was installed two months ago. Despite airing out the room and using an air purifier, the smell hasn't gone away and continues to be strong. Has anybody else experienced this?

This could be caused by moisture getting to the MDF core board based on your description.

                                          A:

You can use furniture leg protectors to protect your cork flooring.
Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32" off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished. Solid hardwood that is ¾" thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. Low profile solid wood flooring like 5/16" thick flooring may be able to be refinished twice if the flooring is in good shape. Engineered flooring with a 1/8" wear layer or more will be able to be refinished at least once. If the engineered product has a 1/16" wear layer a professional sander may be able to refinish it, but many won't take the chance in case they make a mistake and take too much off the wear layer. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if you're not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.

I am wanting to install flooring on a wood deck in a screen room with EZ Breeze windows(summer home with no heat or A/C when we are not there). I didn't want to use indoor/outdoor carpeting, is there a cork or vinyl flooring that would work?

I have a Medina Cork floor in my kitchen and breakfast room. I also have a large dog that has scratched the surface quite severely. Can I sand the surface and re-seal it?

To restore the original shine of a cork floor a screen and re-coat may be needed or a complete refinishing. A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine.

                                          A:

Lisbon has a traditional UV cured matte (low gloss) finish with no VOC's (Number of coats is proprietary).
Applying additional finish is not recommended and will void the factory finish warranty.
If you decided to apply additional finish, a water-based floor grade would be best.

I have cats, Can they scratch up the floor and eventually destroy the Lisbon cork or is there a sealer I can put on it to make it more scratch resistant?

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
                                          Thank you for your inquiry.
Adding more finish will void the finish warranty.
