I'd like to install this or similar engineered flooring over plywood sub-floor that has crawl space below. But neither the rental yard or our hardware store carry any moisture-measuring instruments. So just how important is it to test for this problem?

  It is very important to make sure that the subfloor is not high in moisture as the prefinished flooring boards will expand when exposed to excess moisture and may cause buckling, squeaks and finish problems with your new flooring.

The red oak engineered hardwood floor measures 5" wide, yet the web site picture appears to show top layer of approximately 2 1/2 inch wide planks. Are you trying to present an appearance of 2 1/4 inch natureal oak flooring?

  Photos do not always show how the product actually looks.
  I would recommend visiting your local Lumber Liquidators to look at the actual sample (take home samples are free) or order a sample to make sure this is the right product for you.

  This product has a 3.5 mm wear layer (just under 1/8")
  Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished.
  Engineered flooring with a 1/8” wear layer or more will be able to be refinished at least once. If the engineered product has a 1/16” wear layer a professional sander may be able to refinish it, but many won’t take the chance in case they make a mistake and take too much off the wear layer. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring.
