my current flooring is 60 years old and is 2 1/4 inch wide. I think it is red oak, and it is stained honey golden.

It will vary from 19.5 to 21 SF per bundle depending on the mill source.
That is why it is sold by the sq ft only.

  • Q:

Can you tell me if this is a FULL 3/4" in thickness? Most says it is but upon measurement it is 1/16" of an inch shy of the 3/4"? Thanks for your help.

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

This should measure a full 3/4" with a possible milling variance that allows for 5% out of of tolerance.

  • Q:

Just want to confirm that unfinished means already sanded? Is this totally ready for stain once it's installed?
Asked on 5/30/2013 by Hamdog from Westwood, NJ

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Unfinished flooring is rough sanded but will require additional sanding after installation to eliminate high lows between the installed flooring due to milling.
Unlike prefinished flooring, unfinished flooring is always sanded in place for a smooth finish.
      Thank you for your inquiry.

I want to blend a existing wood floor in a kitchen with a new floor in a open concept family room. The old floor will be refinished to match the new one.Where can I find information about blending these two rooms to make them appear as one? Is this something a homeowner can accomplish or should it be hired out.

  • Q:

how do you measure your room to know how many sq feet you need?
    Asked on 9/6/2012 by Tam

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Tam, here is an example of a typical 12’x10’ room

1st) Measure the rooms Length x width

      (12’x10’)= 120’ sq ft area

2nd) Add *waste percentage to allow for cutting and board selection

      (120’sqft area + *10% waste) or (120’x10%) = an additional 12 sq ft, for a total of 132sq ft.

3rd) Next round up the total to nearest full box.

      * 5% for Laminates, 8% for Cork and Northern hardwoods, 10% to 15% for selected exotics

When installing hardwood diagonally or custom applications add an additional 15%
