My husband was able to quickly install these steps. They are so goegeous. They are a little darker than the actual hardwood floor but they do blend.

what does it mean by "Treads are to be installed on top of the step" in the product description.

- A:
  These treads are designed to replace not go over existing steps.
  The thickness of these treads put over your existing stairs may cause a trip hazard because you are adding a full inch which may cause stumbles. Different counties have codes regarding changes in the rise of steps in relation to each other and with the landings at the bottom and top of a stair case.

  Our solid treads are typically 1" thick and 11 1/2" deep. They can be purchased in 36" and 48" length. They have a square edge on the back with no tongue or groove
