Comments about 36" Red Oak Tread:
These are the same treads you will get at the other box stores. LL had them on the shelf so that was nice. They come in bundles of 5 and they won't open them to let you verify quality. There is a pretty good chance one or two will not be good enough. Lots of imperfections, some cracks at lamination joints and poor planing. I bought 10 and was able to use them all but everyone only had one usable side and some required a little extra sanding and filling to be usable.
I recommend for a budget job but if I were to do it all over, I would purchase the select boards.

Comments about 36" Red Oak Tread:
We used Red Oak laminate flooring from LL and needed a landing step to move from one room down into another. Tried a more expensive one from a major hardware store but it was not solid. Returned it and got this one for less money and solid oak. Used a satin varnish and it looks fantastic with the laminate. Love my new floor! Thanks, LL!

Comments about 36" Red Oak Tread:
The stairs stained beautifully. They are a little slick compated to the ugly carpet I had. I will either spray on texture or add carpet swatches.
They really made my house 'pop'. Love them. I wish I would have taken before pictures and have not had time to photo them yet.
Service and delivery comments:
Everything arrived in goood condition. for the flooring, the first csutomer service person said there was no problem getting it the next day. So I waited to order it til the day before, then they said that was wrong- two to three days.Warehouse guys were super and it was very well organized. In and out was easy.
Comments about 36" Red Oak Tread:
I bought prefinished flooring from Lumber Liquidators and was able to almost exactly match the stairs to the prefinished floors. Great product!

Comments about 36" Red Oak Tread:
I expected to sand (finish) I ended up heavily sanding several treads because they still had the saw marks on them. Lots of dings from handling that needed to be sanded out. One had a huge all-the-way through knot. I should have been more careful when I picked them up and looked at EVERY tread before accepting them.

I have carpet stairs and would like to replace it with wood. To use this product, do I just rip out the old carpet and padding then place this on top of the stair base tread? Please advise. thx.1 answer
A:
The thickness of these treads put over your existing stairs may cause a trip hazard because you are adding a full inch which may cause stumbles. Different counties have codes regarding changes in the rise of steps in relation to each other and with the landings at the bottom and top of a stair case. Most likely this application will be outside of code. These treads are designed to replace not go over existing steps.Q:
