About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

All we hoped for and then some

Pros

  • Looks amazing
  • Surprisingly Inexpensive

Cons

  • None so far

Best Uses

  • Floating Over Concrete

My wife & I just love the tone(s) and the handscraped detailing of this product. It looks absolutely amazing in our two bedrooms and we can hardly believe the price of the wood (on a per sq. foot basis). Only time will tell if the quality can match the great looks but at this point in time it's definitely love at first sight!!

Pros

  • Easy Click Installation

Cons

    Best Uses

The service was great. The installer got
To my house around 8:00 am and was done by 6:30 pm. He cleaned up everything and moved furniture back for me. You will have to dust when he leaves but that should be expected. The floors look beautiful.

      Very, VERY pleased

      By R. Welch

      from Kansas City

I was kind of apprehensive about ordering floors online that I had never seen in person. This product arrived fast to my local store and they were very professional about keeping me up to date on my order status. WOW, in comparison to shopping other places- the price on this wood was amazing and the installation went smooth and the finished product looks fantastic! I am impressed.

float installed over concrete in living room and hall; chalk line and go for it. Installation went like butter. Color and texture (handscraped) awsome will go with any neutral color wall paint and furniture. Great service from Chula Vista store.
Make sure to allow for shorter planks before setting down. Get good moisture barrier and noise barrier.

          A:

Unfortunately not, any carpet will have to be removed because it offers no moisture protection or support to the locking system..

I would use the matching T- molding SKU# 10025894 or the Regular threshold SKU# 10025895 to picture frame the hearth.

We live on a lake with sand and more sand. We have 7 grandkids and a 100 lb dog that visit for the summers. Will this floor hold up or is laminate better?

          A:

Thoughts on durability; I have a Bellawood floor that holds up extremely well to our Hound Mix, Pit-Boxer, and another young mutt. Not to mention nieces, nephews, and work shoes. Excellent finish. It's not scratch free but no wood floor could be with these dogs. Harder floors like hickory (41% harder than Red Oak) or exotic floors will dent less easily. 3/4" hardwood can also be refinished several times. Light colors will hide potential scratches. Remember nothing is scratch proof but some do better than others.

Our higher warranty Laminate flooring holds up very well to dog nails and wear but cannot be refinished. Advantage is it's less expensive both for product and labor. Higher Warranty the better.

Our Schon engineered flooring has 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss. Being a natural material it may dent easier than laminate but it's real wood. Engineered can be refinished carefully once or twice.

For Bamboo our Morning Star brand has a similar finish that Schon and Bellawood has and offers the hardest type of bamboo floor produced, "Strand Bamboo". It can be refinished too but only by professionals with bamboo experience as it's a grass product and more difficult than hardwood. Stranded would be my only choice if going with bamboo.

Resilient Vinyl flooring is a very tough floor and the most resistant against damp areas.

Regardless of the floor you choose, keeping nails trimmed is a good idea. Another idea is to cover nails with vinyl claw covers.

Proper care always helps. For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find it here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

Both my parents are in wheelchairs and we are in search of a wood like product that will withstand there wheelchairs. They currently have tile and are not happy. I know that there are products that look like wood and are made for hospital grade any suggestions?
Asked on 3/25/2013 by Michelle from Scottsdale, AZ

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Being in a power wheelchair myself, you contacted the right guy. Higher warranty laminates will hold up well, my Mom's and Sister's homes can attest to that. I have a solid 3/4" naildown Bellawood floor in my home and it is excellent. Between the chair and two big dogs it's doing very well. Laminate is less expensive but can't be refinished. Engineered flooring can also be a good choice if you go with a higher warranted floor such as Schon or Bellawood Engineered. As far as species, your best choice is something harder than red oak including "strand" bamboo. Note: lighter flooring hides blemishes easier than dark which show everything. See-

Caution, be sure there are no stones caught in tire treads.

What type of underlayment over concrete needs to be used
Asked on 3/24/2013 by Jeffmgman from Lafayette AL

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

A 6 to 8 mil poly sheeting moisture barrier should be laid for floating floors for an On or Below Grade Concrete subfloor. Overlap seams 4-6" and tape with duct tape. Overlay perimeter 3-4" up wall. Then lay an approved underlayment for floating flooring. Foam Underlayment, Eco Silent Sound, Insulayment. Bellawood Premium Underlayment, or Quiet Walk underlayment for floating floors.

How well does this product hold up in the humidity of the midwest? is the thickness of this product too thin for the midwest humidity?
Asked on 3/19/2013 by lj rn from milwaukee, wi

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Engineered has good dimensional stability for humid areas. However it is understood that for best performance, condition and maintain the flooring to consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%.
