Virginia Mill Works Co.- 1/2" x 5" Santa Cruz Prefinished Handscraped Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Handcrafted plank by plank, the French bleed is done the traditional way by rubbing the stain on the plank edge.
A beautiful look reproducing the working technique of the craftsmen of bygone times.

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

Don't forget the molding and stair treads!

          Cons

          Best Uses

          • Bedroom or hallway
          • Kitchen Or Living Area

The floor looks great, but almost every box contained warped boards, which made installation challenging. The birch does scratch relatively easily, however, the layer wood layer on this floor is relatively thick, which helps mitigate the appearance. VERY LIMITED TRIM options available - be sure they will work for your application before you buy!!!

The floor is beautiful. The contractor put in about 1200 sq. feet in less than 2 days. It went in very easily. Nice variation in color, so it goes with all our wood furniture and cabinets.

We installed this engineered hardwood in our master bedroom. I wanted solid hardwood, but we were convinced to go with engineered hardwood...I wish I would have stuck to my original plan. While this floor looks great, it sounds hollow when you walk on it...too much like the laminate sound...we even installed it over Bellawood padding and it still sounds hollow....GO FOR THE SOLID HARDWOOD!!

Love, love, love my new floors!! My husband and I installed the Santa Cruz Handscraped Planks in my home office about 6 weeks ago. We've installed floors before, but it's been a while, so once we got past the initial "getting started" hurdles and had the first 4 or 5 rows down, the floor went down pretty easily. We've got 2 big dogs, so I was really worried about scratches...especially after reading other comments on other floors. So far, so good!!

I'm looking for a hard engineered flooring that will take the wear of dogs. Someone suggested handcut flooring. Is it all the same hardness Oak maple or others? My daughter has bamboo which is supposed to be hard and it's scratched. Please give me your opinion as to how to have the look of wood but also the durability. I don't think I want laminate. Thanks very much

                    A:

I have a Bellawood floor that holds up extremely well to our Hound Mix, Pit-Boxer, and another young mutt and a cat. Not to mention nieces, nephews, and work shoes. Excellent finish. It's not scratch free but no wood floor could be with these dogs. Harder floors like hickory (41% harder than Red Oak) or exotic floors will dent less easily. 3/4" hardwood can also be refinished several times. Light colors will hide potential scratches. Remember nothing is scratch proof but some do better than others.

Our higher warranty Laminate flooring holds up very well to dog nails and wear but cannot be refinished. Advantage is it's less expensive both for product and labor. Higher Warranty the better.

Our Schon engineered flooring has 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss. Being a natural material it may dent easier than laminate but it's real wood. Engineered can be refinished carefully once or twice.

For Bamboo our Morning Star and Bellawood brand has a superior finish and offers the hardest type of bamboo floor produced, "Strand Bamboo". It can be refinished too but only by professionals with bamboo experience as it's a grass product and more difficult than hardwood. Stranded would be my only choice if going with bamboo.

Resilient Vinyl flooring is a very tough floor and the most resistant against damp areas.

Regardless of the floor you choose, keeping nails trimmed is a good idea. Another idea is to cover nails with vinyl claw covers.

Proper care always helps. For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often. Urine, when cleaned up quick isn't an issue but if left to dry it can burn finish.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find it here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

                    A:

Squeaking is usually caused by movement of the boards (deflection) and rubbing together, if you can stop the movement the squeaking should stop.

After you establish your square footage in the rooms to be installed, add for waste and order that much. Enter in the "Your Square Feet:" box on the product webpage and try to round off to the nearest box.

I apologies we do not retail flooring that should be applied to walls, while we do have customer's that do that frequently it will void any warranty that comes with the flooring. If you are looking to install wood on your walls in the bathroom (high moisture and humidity) I would take a look at something that has the highest stability rating which is our strand bamboo

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. Thank you for your inquiry

I just ordered the Santa Cruz hand scraped flooring. It is back ordered and I will have to pick it up. What are the dimensions of each box of flooring so I know how much I can fit in my SUV?

                    A:

Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished. Solid hardwood that is ¾” thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. Low profile solid wood flooring like 5/16” thick flooring may be able to be refinished twice if the flooring is in good shape. Engineered flooring with a 1/8” wear layer or more will be able to be refinished at least once. If the engineered product has a 1/16” wear layer a professional sander may be able to refinish it, but many won’t take the chance in case they make a mistake and take too much off the wear layer. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.
