Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Chestnut:
we installed the Brazilian chestnut in three bedrooms, hallway, stairsteps and living room. We have two little girls 6 and 2, we have several scratches and gauges already and it has only been in for two years. I would not recommend this for high traffic or busy areas.

We love this product, the color variations are great and it seems to be very durable, time will tell! Installed it in dining room, kitchen, entryway, and hallway. The only flaw is out of 11 boxes only one had any dark wood in it, 3 pieces.

This floor is beautiful. Love the colors and depth. Not as scratch resistant as we hoped for an exotic hardwood that boasts such a high Janka rating. Although it appears that it is the finish coat on the surface that scratches easily.

In a large area have a professional install it, it is well worth the money. I have to caulk the areas where they had to undercut for the floor to fit. They did get most of the glue off but where they missed I have to go back and clean it.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Chestnut:
This product looks amazing when it is installed, but it does take some effort to get it to look good. Like the first reviewer stated, quite often you'll have mismatched planks that vary in width from 1/32" to 1/16". It may not seem like a big deal, but it does result in the lack of tight joints from time to time. If Bellawood could get the quality control down on this product, I would give it a 4.5 stars. I also ran into a few planks that didn't have a tongue or a groove on one end or the other. Again, not a big deal if you catch it before you nail it down, but I was always catching it after I nailed it down and consequently had to rip it out.
This product took me a long time to put down too. I think a lot of that factored into being overly cautious trying to find the right piece that would fit the best from the previous one put down (due to the 1/32 to 1/16 width discrepancies).
Overall, it looks really nice when it is all said and done. But, you have to be meticulous in selecting each piece that abuts the other and be patient making sure each joint is at tight as it can possibly be.

We installed the floor throughout our home. the color is gret. The groves to connect the pieces arent large and thus dont always feel secure. In addition many pieces are not the same width across. They are off 1/16" on a regualr basis and you can see gaps in the floor.

Absolutely love the floor! One of the best remodeling items we've done. Had a professional installer who did a great job. Only problem is that there were a number of defective boards (ie, tongue-and-groove chipped or facing on the boards were damaged) [...]

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Chestnut:
The floor took a long time to install, though it was relatively easy. We put down just under 800sq ft in a week. We also used the foam underlayment that has the adhesive on it. I think it was called Elastilon. This stuff is amazing, I never thought it would be so easy to lay hardwood. The reason we went this way was because we heard all the horror stories with nail guns and exotic wood flooring. We didn't want to have waste (splittling on the tongue) and with the foam adhesive underlayment, there was very little (<3%) waste. I highly recommend you check the whole area where the flooring will be put down for uneven areas. We used self leveling concrete to fix the slab where it was obviously uneven, but failed to check everywhere else. Sure enough, there were other uneven areas. So now we have some high and low spots, although I don't even notice it as much any more and the floor still looks beautiful.

Q:
What is the size of the v-groove between boards? Is it a micro-groove?1 answer
A:
Yes it is considered micro-bevel.Q:
Why is there a difference in the widths of the planks? If this is grade A wood, you would expect it all to be the same. I want to use this flooring in my house, but I'm afraid of the widths being off so much. Is there a easy fix for this problem?1 answer
A:
Because it is a natural wood product and is subject to the envirinment.Q:
Does it get lighter or darker over time?1 answer
A:
This floor darkens with age.Q:
how many times can i refinish this product?1 answer
A:
Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished. Solid hardwood that is ¾” thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. Low profile solid wood flooring like 5/16” thick flooring may be able to be refinished twice if the flooring is in good shape. Engineered flooring with a 1/8” wear layer or more will be able to be refinished at least once. If the engineered product has a 1/16” wear layer a professional sander may be able to refinish it, but many won’t take the chance in case they make a mistake and take too much off the wear layer. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring.Q:
My daughter and I will be installing 5/16 by 2 1/2 inch chestnut in her 3 bedroom 900+ sq ft house 1986 vintage house located in Loveland Colorado. Plywood floor over 16" studs previously carpeted.1 answer
A:
For the BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Chestnut flooring I would recommend you use an 18 gage cleat nail that is 1" up to 1 1/4" in length. You can use a Powernail 50P nail gun or a Powernail Flex nail gun. Both of these nail guns can be adjusted to the 3/8" floor height.Q:
We are not limited to concrete slab installation but can Bellawood be placed on a concrete floor? Which products are necessary for complete installation of Bellawood?1 answer
A:
Bellawood solids 5/16" up to 1/2" thick can be glued down over a concrete subfloor that is on grade or below grade. Bellawood that is 3/4" thick cannot be glued down, but you can use our Elastilon underlayment to float it over a concrete subfloor. You can also build up a floating plywood system and nail down a Bellawood solid floor over concrete. To find the Bellawood installation instructions please click the link below.Q:
desperate!!!! Is it possible to install this with cleats over 1/2" particle board overlayment on top of 3/4 plywood subfloor.1 answer
A:
I would not install over the particle wood. This is an underlayment that is not an acceptable sub-floor for nailing or gluing down a floor due to the way it is manufactured. You can remove the PB and replace it with plywood or use a minimum of 3/8" plywood over the top and then nail into that.Q:
does this product have different shades of color ,or does every piece the same color1 answer
A:
As stated in the discription of the product Brazilian Chestnut exhibits a vast range of rich color variations from a lighter understated brown to sultry deep brown hues.Q:
I am confused. The specs say "glue down" but several reviews refer to nailing. Which is the proper way to install this floor over plywood subfloor?1 answer
A:
This product can be installed either way, but for your application fastening would be easier. You can find complete install instructions on our site "go to flooring 101 and search for your product".Q:
How much does each box weigh, and what are the dimensions of each box?1 answer
A:
The boxes for the Bellawood 3/8" x 3" select Brazilian Chestnut will weigh about 84lbs and the dimensions of the boxes will be 12-14" wide x 3.5-4" tall x 88-90" long.
