Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Red Oak:
Some of the boards are a bit narrower than the rest. Probably just over 1/32 of an inch. You do not notice it until it is installed and you are installing the next course. This leaves a gap between the boards. Very unsightly. I had to plane down the wider board so that the transition is more pleasing. Of course this eliminates the eased edge. I understand that the boards are natural but I think the grader or the saw cutter is fudging a bit. Many of the cuts are right through a knot or other major blemish. If they made the cut 1/2 to 1 inch shorter than the knot or blemish would not be on that board.

Used in a family room to replace a old Berber carpet. When we built the addition 15 years ago we should have installed then. Room looks so much nicer and cleaner.

Animals and children switched us from carpeting to hardwood floors. Everything seems much cleaner. We had a carpenter install them and it was a breeze. The last bedroom is in the planning stages since we intend to do something a bit fancier in the master bedroom.

Q:
I'm looking at this for installation in our great room. The sub-floor is plywood and the room is 16' x 34'. The flow of the room suggests the boards run parallel to the 34' wall. This is perpendicular to the trusses supporting the subfloor. I've been told that thresholds are required for runs over 30'. I've also been told that glue should be used for long runs as it accommodates expansion better than nails. I'm old-school and prefer nailing with no thresholds. What's the preferred installation method for this configuration?1 answer

A:
You can run continuous the full 34'. No problem. Follow the manufacturer installation information here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/assets/images/installation/bellawood.pdfQ:
I am using this product on stairs and plan a glue down installation over plywood. Is "Bostik's Best Adhesive (SKU 10004554)" an appropriate adhesive and if so what trowel should be used and how much will be needed for my 13 steps (about 30 sq ft)?1 answer
A:
I would recommend a 1/4' x 1/4" x 1/4" square notch trowel, we only carry this in 5 gallon pails which would cover approx. 150 sq ft.Q:
We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old who are constantly on the floors. We have been told that hardwood scratches easy and we should not obtain with small children. Is this the case that you are aware. we would rather have hardwood than laminate but our reasoning is 2 little kids..Thanks.1 answer

Durability note; I have 3 dogs but no children, two of them large, and a Bellawood Hickory floor and it has held up great to 5 years of hard playing. Nothing is scratch proof and there are nail marks (slight dents) but the finish does not scratch off but rather keeps wood sealed. Harder floors like hickory (41% harder than Red Oak) or exotic floors will dent less easily and light colors hide scratches easier than dark because of contrast. I don't care about keeping the flooring flawless because I understand the limitations of wood flooring. We keep the dog nails trimmed which is very helpful, if I wanted to keep the flooring flawless I would have vinyl dog booties and only socks and sneakers on the flooring. However, real life doesn't isn't always that careful so I simply relax, keep it swept, and clean with Bellawood Cleaner once a month and I could not be happier with my floor. Light colors will hide potential scratches. Remember nothing is scratch proof but some do better than others. A child, unless they play with metal toys, should not be a problem for Bellawood floor.Q:
Are the edges and ends of this product square, or are they beveled?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
All pre-finished flooring comes with a micro-bevel edge. Today's hardwood finishes are most durable and are applied in a quality controlled environment. We offer several pre-finish coatings, whereas most site-finished floors -sanded and finished at the job site- would only have two or three coats applied, then these must be air dried.Q:
We recently had this floor installed. I have area rugs and am concerned about what type of protective mat can be used under the rugs to prevent slippage. Most seem to be rubber or foam latex which is not recommended for placement on wood flooring. Exactly what padding can be used?1 answer
A:
Natural (not synthetic) protective mats are recommended for urethane finished floors and are available at most home centers and quality carpet stores.Q:
Am trying to locate a copy of the warrenty and also how to care for this flooring.1 answer

Where do I find installation instructions / product warranty information?Q:
Hello, could you please tell me the approximate weight of one box of this product? Thank you.1 answer
A:
Each box weighs approx. 60 lbs.Q:
I am considering installing this in our basement. Is this product suitable? Do I need any other additional material given the concrete floor? We currently have carpet installed and it will be removed; the floor was sealed and we do not have a water or moisture issue.1 answer
A:
This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.Q:
What are the length of boards in each box?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Our Select products will have random length boards that will be between 12” and 84” with the average length being around 36".Q:
I installed this floor and it is beautiful. However, my daughter wore stiletto heals and put some dents in the floor. How do I take these out? Do you sell a dent repair kit?1 answer

Did you know; The pressure of an elephant on hardwood is 50 to 100 pounds per square inch (psi). But a 130-pound woman in high heels is coming down with a force of more than 2,000 psi!
