Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

Handscraped
Handscraped or distressed floors have a natural or worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

The floor is very durable and relatively easy to install. We installed it ourselves, and it took about two days to do 1,100 square feet. We have two dogs, both over 100 pounds, and have yet to see a scratch caused by them. The floor is very dark, so it does show hair and dust. We sweep on a regular basis, and mop the floor with Murphy's Wood Soap at least once a week due to the high traffic in our home. People always comment on how beautiful the floors are when they visit.

We installed this floor in the whole house and looks beautiful. We have a big dog and when she runs for the door, it makes some marks, which mopping will remove. It doesn't scratch easily but if it does, all you need to use is Restore.A.Finish in Dark Walnut, shake it well before use. the flooring is extremely hard and that's why it so hard to install, we did it ourselves and it was worth it.

        Exercise caution!!!

        By Carebear

        from Raleigh, NC

This product is so beautiful, I decided to rip out all the carpet, and put it all throughout the downstairs, about 1200 sq. ft. It scratches so easily, even the floor sweeper scratches it, and I cannot get the scratches out. I wish someone would have told me that this product is not good for high traffic areas, and would be better suited to a low traffic place. I feel like I will have to replace them in a couple of years, and is a huge amount of money wasted. (Also it looks dirty really quickly.) On the plus side, it is a strong wood, too bad the top coat is not the same:(

The floors are absolutely stunning. They offer the look we wanted and we are overall very pleased. However, we wish we had really considered how much dirt and dog hair would show on this floor. We have a white and black dog and we are constantly sweeping. Though they are beautiful, I would definitely consider this factor if you have animals or an active lifestyle. We are in and out of our home and it's sometimes more of a hassle than it's worth.

        Shing Palace Bamboo

        By bamboo mb

        Pros

        • Easy to clean
        • Looks great

        Cons

        • Finish is not very deep

        Best Uses

Looks great and can be nailed or glued, just be careful in glue-down installations - the "rough cut" of the boards can let some glue show at the joints. Also, the stain is not very deep with the darker finish and it seems like cuts & scratches will be very noticeable. Good news is that the distressed look of the wood is very easy to touch-up and the normal nicks & dents don't really affect the look.

              A:

Our wood floors are manufactured for maximum durability, easy maintenance and finished with a high quality aluminum oxide water base urethane UV cured finish. This step protects the wood and helps keep the flooring looking beautiful longer. While highly durable, the finish is NOT considered indestructible. However, by observing a few precautions like setting up a regular cleaning routine and simple maintenance program to protect the finish, you can expect years of performance and beauty from your wood floor. All wood floors can show signs of wear over time. There are many factors that can affect the amount of wear. These include the size and lifestyle of your family and product location. The following cleaning principles are recommended for all of our products -Hardwood, Laminates, Corks, Bamboo and other Exotics. Outlined are examples of the reasonable and necessary maintenance to be performed; this is only intended to be a basic list; • Immediately after installation, be certain that the flooring is completely cleaned and dry as described below. If you must protect the flooring from traffic, use only “craft” paper, brown, red or white, this will allow the flooring to “breathe”. Do not fully cover the flooring. NEVER lay plastic of any kind or any other non-porous material over the flooring as this can trap moisture, harm the flooring or fade the finish. • Sweep or vacuum regularly, since built-up dirt, grit and sand can damage the surface of the wood. If using a vacuum, use a soft brush attachment -NOT A BEATER BAR ATTACHMENT. Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not damage the finish. When using a broom be certain that bristles are soft. You can also use a dry mop. • Because of the myriad of cleaning products available and methods of each application, Lumber Liquidators cannot endorse or oversee the use of any Brand Name of floor cleaner. We do recommend cleaning products safe for urethane finishes such as our Bellawood floor cleaner. • The use of a changeable terry cloth type system to clean the floor is highly recommended; apply cleaning solution to the terry cloth not the floor. • NEVER use oil soaps, liquid, or paste wax products or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, Tung oil, silicone, or ammonia on pre-finished flooring. The use of these products will harm the long-term performance and appearance of your floor and may affect future re-coating. (Damages caused by non-recommended cleaning products are not covered by warranties). NOTE: This also includes the use of vinegar and water solutions as water can damage wood. Vinegar is an acidic element that can have an oxidizing, caustic effect on the finish. • In an effort to clean hardwood floors, many have experimented with a variety of cleaners on the market and end up with a new problem. “How to remove the build-up of cleaning products revealing the original surface"? If this is the case with you, we recommend consulting with a professional cleaner local to your area because they can best see the details involved and make the most accurate recommendations. If you choose to remove the layers of build-up yourself, use cotton rags instead of a mop to control the amount of liquid used. • NEVER wet-mop, damp-mop, swab or flood your floor with water or any other product. Moisture can seep into the seams causing edge-cupping damage. Urethane floors do not require wet mopping. Natural floors are water resistant, not water proof. Remove all spills promptly using a soft, slightly damp cloth • STEAM CLEANERS OR WET-JET swiffer; Lumber Liquidators does not recommend "Water brooms" "Wet-Jet Swiffers or steamer type cleaners on laminates, corks or hardwood floors. Although steamers may work well cleaning OTHER types of hard surface flooring, the 130° to 240° heated steam vapor can ruin wood or urethane finish resulting in warped or cupped flooring. Water and wood do not mix well, especially steam. Use these products at your own risk. • Do place protective mats at entry doors to keep dirt, grit, sand and moisture from being track in from the outside. • Do use area rugs in heavily traveled areas and pivot points (e.g., stair landings, room entries, etc.), especially if you have a large family or indoor pets. • When using area rugs, use a rug pad with a felt, plant or PVC based backing. DO NOT use area rugs with a petroleum based rubber backing (typically black) as this can cause permanent chemical staining/etching of the floor finish. • Take reasonable precautions; use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood when moving heavy objects such as furniture and appliances. • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and feet to reduce scratches and dents. Check and replace wore pads regularly. • Keep pet’s nails trimmed, and paws clean and free of dirt, gravel, grease, oil, and stains. • Scratches, dents and cupping are site related, not considered a manufactured defect. Can this product 9/16 x 5 1/8 songjiang strand flooring be installed over intact vinyl sheet good flooring? I intend to nail it. Do I still need a builders or felt paper? When installing in a bathroom or near a sink or dishwasher do I need to caulk the perimeter edges?
Asked on 4/20/2013 by Dave from Amherst, Ohio

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Yes, hardwood/bamboo/engineered/cork/laminate can be installed over well secured firm kitchen vinyl. Vinyls that are rubbery, heavily embossed, or foamy must be removed for a firm floor. For naildown flooring, vinyls that are covered over tend to sweat, so as a barrier use red rosin paper or black 15lb roofing felt under the new wood flooring. Your subfloor needs to be plywood or approved OSB under the vinyl for naildown installation.

Particle Board subfloor; consider a floating engineered/bamboo/or laminate. Gluedown installation is possible, however you need to consider that the flooring to vinyl bond can only be as strong as the vinyl to subfloor bond.

This is a solid bamboo product designed to be nailed or glued to a your substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
              Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.

We have noticed that some of the boards have quite a bit more distressing than others (and much more than the demo at the store!) and dirt, etc. gets caught in them creating a cleaning hassle. If we were to sand these select boards a bit, is there a way to buy the exact same water-based lacquer that was initially used so we can re-stain them to match?

Unfortunately this finish is not available in a can for retail sale. I would recommend bringing a scrap piece of the flooring to a paint store and they should be able to match the finish gloss for you. Thank you for your inquiry.

My son spilled something on the floor that makes it look spotted. What do I do to clean it? We have the dark bamboo floor which was installed in September.

Bellawood Cleaner or Bona Kemi cleaner should work.
