Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x  4-3/4" Tobacco Road Acacia Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

"Our advertising isn't fancy, our stores aren't in the high rent district, but our flooring is some of the best in the industry at incredibly low prices." - Tom Sullivan (Lumber Liquidators' Founder & Chairman)

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was problematic because driver didn't want to deliver indoors. Had to get a person from Lumber Liquidators out to bring the product in and that delayed delivery by almost a week and the install by a week as well.

Installation process went smoothly, professionally and courteously. Very pleased!

Just purchased this flooring to go in our living room, dining room, kitchen, two hallways and computer room as part of an extensive home remodel. It looks absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to see it installed. However, my contractor has not installed Teak/Acacia before and cannot find an 18 guage nail gun to install it with. How many on here have installed using a regular nail gun and did it cause any problems? I can't imagine everyone has purchased the nail gun recommended by LL.

I will update my review once the floor is down.

        Service and delivery comments:

Service at the store was great! Jon at the Jeffersontown, KY LL was so helpful and friendly. Delivery was actually early and they were very nice and quick to deliver.

Gorgeous! We love it! Installed in the two upstairs bedrooms, living room and stairs of house. As silly as it sounds, the stairs make the house what it is now, between this wood and how it was installed. I am at work and do not have access to pictures; but, we are definitely happy with our choice. Lumber Liquidator$ was very helpful on some special order items.

The floors are gorgeous but don't look to close because you will see LARGE gaps. We had this installed in August by a Lumber Liquidators installer. In March we had a hardwood floor inspector come take a look at our floors because of the large gaps. We have done everything correct, the humidity is in the correct range, only clean it using the cleaner we purchased as a kit from Lumber Liquidators. I actually clean it using my vacuum cleaner because I can't get the dirt in the gaps without it. So extremely frustrated and just sick that I paid $20,000 for these floors.

What is the best way to repair light scratches?
Asked on 10/18/2014 by Vic from Diamondhead, Ms

                    1 answer

                    • Staff Reviewer

                      A:

The way a floor is treated or maintained can affect its longevity. In addition, there is no relationship between the hardness or denseness of exotic species and its resistance to surface scratches. Wood floor manufactures do not offer warranties of protection against denting or scratches, rather product warranties refer to milling defects and finish wear within specified periods of time.

While some finishes may claim to be harder, all top finishes whether Oil or Water based urethanes are generally listed as scratch resistant though not scratch proof. Actually, our pre-finished Bellawood and Dura-Wood is superior to any site applied finish. This is because site finished floors with only 2 or 3 coats require time to fully “air cure” which can be problematic on days with high humidity.

Our Bellawood floors are factory pre-finished with an UV cured urethane finish, which is scratch resistant and abrasion resistant. Using a multi-step application process many coats of finish are applied to domestic and exotic wood species and each coat is hard-cured using Ultraviolet (UV) light. Bellawood pre-finished flooring offers superior wear resistance and is backed by a limited 100-year Transferrable warranty! Maintaining the appearance of any wood floor requires close attention to in-door climate controls during seasonal changes.

Wood floors like furniture will scratch and dent if not properly protected. It is recommended to use furniture pads (included in our cleaning kit) under the furniture legs. Pet nails should be kept trimmed and sharp objects (including high heels) kept away from the floor. Often scratches can be adequately repaired using liquid scratch covers. Dents and nicks can be filled using wood floor repair kits available at your local home store. If your floor is severely damaged please consult a professional about refinishing, an individual board replacement may be all that’s needed.

                      Thank you for your inquiry

                    • Staff Reviewer

                      A:

Our wood floors are manufactured for maximum durability, easy maintenance and finished with a high quality aluminum oxide water base urethane UV cured finish. This step protects the wood and helps keep the flooring looking beautiful longer. While highly durable, the finish is NOT considered indestructible. However, by observing a few precautions like setting up a regular cleaning routine and simple maintenance program to protect the finish, you can expect years of performance and beauty from your wood floor. All wood floors can show signs of wear over time. There are many factors that can affect the amount of wear. These include the size and lifestyle of your family and product location.
                      The following cleaning principles are recommended for all of our products -Hardwood, Laminates, Corks, Bamboo and other Exotics. Outlined are examples of the reasonable and necessary maintenance to be performed; this is only intended to be a basic list;
                      • Immediately after installation, be certain that the flooring is completely cleaned and dry as described below. If you must protect the flooring from traffic, use only “craft” paper, brown, red or white, this will allow the flooring to “breathe”. Do not fully cover the flooring. NEVER lay plastic of any kind or any other non-porous material over the flooring as this can trap moisture, harm the flooring or fade the finish.
                      • Sweep or vacuum regularly, since built-up dirt, grit and sand can damage the surface of the wood. If using a vacuum, use a soft brush attachment -NOT A BEATER BAR ATTACHMENT. Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not damage the finish. When using a broom be certain that bristles are soft. You can also use a dry mop.
                      • Because of the myriad of cleaning products available and methods of each application, Lumber Liquidators cannot endorse or oversee the use of any Brand Name of floor cleaner. We do recommend cleaning products safe for urethane finishes such as our Bellawood floor cleaner and Dream Home Cleaner.
                      • The use of a changeable terry cloth type system to clean the floor is highly recommended; apply cleaning solution to the terry cloth.
                      • NEVER use oil soaps or paste wax products or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, Tung oil, silicone, or ammonia on pre-finished flooring. The use of these products will harm the long-term performance and appearance of your floor and may affect future re-coating. (Damages caused by non-recommended cleaning products are not covered by warranties). NOTE: This also includes the use of vinegar. Vinegar is an acidic element that can have an oxidizing, caustic effect on the finish.
                      • In an effort to clean hardwood floors, many have experimented with a variety of cleaners on the market and end up with a new problem. “How to remove the build-up of cleaning products revealing the original surface"? If this is the case with you, we recommend consulting with a professional cleaner local to your area because they can best see the details involved and make the most accurate recommendations. If you choose to remove the layers of build-up yourself, use cotton rags instead of a mop to control the amount of liquid used.
                      • NEVER wet-mop or flood your floor with water or any other product. Moisture can seep into the seams causing edge-cupping damage. Urethane floors do not require wet mopping. Natural floors are water resistant, not water proof. Remove all spills promptly using a soft, slightly damp cloth
                      • STEAM CLEANERS ; Lumber Liquidators does not recommend Water brooms or steamer type cleaners on laminates, bamboo, engineered wood, corks or hardwood floors. Although steamers may work well cleaning OTHER types of hard surface flooring, the 130° to 240° heated steam vapor can ruin wood or urethane finish resulting in finish issues, warped, or cupped flooring. Water and wood do not mix well, especially steam. Use these products at your own risk.
                      • Do place protective mats at entry doors to keep dirt, grit, sand and moisture from being track in from the outside.
                      • Do use area rugs in heavily traveled areas and pivot points (e.g., stair landings, room entries, etc.), especially if you have a large family or indoor pets.
                      • When using area rugs, use a rug pad with a felt, plant or PVC based backing. DO NOT use area rugs with a petroleum based rubber backing (typically black) as this can cause permanent chemical staining/etching of the floor finish.
                      • Take reasonable precautions; use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood when moving heavy objects such as furniture and appliances.
                      • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and feet to reduce scratches and dents. Check and replace wore pads regularly.
                      • Keep pet’s nails trimmed, and paws clean and free of dirt, gravel, grease, oil, and stains.
                      • Scratches, dents and cupping are site related, not considered a manufactured defect.

i purchased a box of this product a week ago and began installing it tonight. I am using 2" cleats with a Kobalt flooring nailer that I just purchased from Lowes. I cannot prevent the nail from splitting the tongue off the board. What could i be doing wrong?

I just purchased this wood and the installer said that it is very tough to cut because he said it was teak. We actually purchased Tobacco Road Handscraped Acacia wood. Also, I just noticed on the invoice that it says teak but I know we ordered the Acacia. Can you explain?

Your Virginia Mill Works Tobacco Road is an Acacia wood product, Botanical Name: Acacia Confusa
The reference to Teak mentioned on the invoice is an error in our system that will be corrected.

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. In addition, we do not recommend using steamers or wet-jet cleaning systems for hardwood because spraying can collect moisture in between board edges. The use of these products is at your own risk.

We looked at this flooring this weekend. We really like it, but in the showroom there were some gaps between boards. The saleman said that is because they use scrap pieces in showrooms. But after reading some reviews on here other people seem to have this problem. Are these boards that inconsistent? Also, I have 1/2 inch partical board subfloor. Can I just pull that up and lay directly on top of 2x6 t&g decking.

                      A:

Floor Gapping can be caused by several factors:

Separating or gapping with a hardwood floor can be caused by major expansion/contraction from temperature/humidity shifts beyond the manufacturers recommended levels (consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and humidity levels of 35% - 55%). These levels should also be consistent during the acclimation process as noted in the instructions.

You should be okay nailing to the decking. If you want to be certain there is no movement of the subfloor and have very good nail bite or if you are running the flooring parallel to the decking, Cover the decking with 3/8" plywood to isolate board movement (expansion/contraction) that can differentiate from the flooring expansion/contraction rates.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/assets/images/installation/va_millworks.pdf

can I get rid of the scratches on the top coat? I installed 1000sf this past weekend and on Monday my dogs jogged in and scratched the floor fairly significantly. Looks to be the top seal and not the wood. Looks terrible. I've had hardwood floors before and I know they scratch, but this seems to be a little excessive. Steel wool? really fine sandpaper? ??
also, it is a little deceiving to have 'virginia millworks' on the packaging and then have 'made in china' on the interior labels. very concerned about the Quality control. Floor installed well with no gapping though.
