Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Easy Floating "Click-Together" installation
- Backed by a 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

I purchased this product based on recommendation from Lumber Liquidators in Chandler, AZ. We tested the scratch resistance of numerous types of wood flooring and found this to be the best (took a Thomas the Train toy and hit it and scratched on it, took a screw driver and went to town on it, yes it scratched but it didn't look as bad or look as cheap as laminate after the fact). After reading the negative reviews on this site, I was concerned about our purchase. After install, I have to say we made the right decision. We have 3 kids and a medium sized dog and have yet to find a scratch anywhere on the floor (dog slides all over it). We do have to clean it once a day as it is a dark floor but that was known going into this (we had dark flooring in another house). This is definitely one of the best purchases we have made for our home.
The installer said it was a pretty simple install except when it came to cutting it. Other than that he was happy with the product and the way the floor turned out.

These are beautiful but they are impossible to keep clean. It's an everyday cleanup job to handle the dust that coats the flooring. The room thresholds makes it even more difficult. Because they are so dark everything shows up; absolutely everything but you have to clean them everyday. I bought the Shark Rocket vacuum which works great especially with the vacuum/dust mop head. It catches everything. We are going to be pulling these up from the living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway this winter and putting them in bedrooms. I haven't had much of an issue with scratching, it will dent but it takes a lot to do it. Just be careful about moving furniture & appliances. I have a child and a cat with his claws and they don't damage it. They look great but they are a lot of work to keep looking great.

All in all, this is a great product.

Installs easily. I have NEVER laid a floor, nor am I a handy type of person, but I had very little problems installing this. If you have common sense, you will be able to put this floor down yourself.

Be sure to use the premium Bellawood underlayment. Also be sure that your floor is level.

One thing you will need to watch out for after installation is scratching. After reading other reviews with comments about scratching, I was very concerned. It really isn't that bad - but I don't have kids. I needed to move a cabinet, so I put furniture sliders underneath the feet... no problem until a small pebble got lodged under the pad as I was sliding it, causing a scratch in the finish.

Bamboo is VERY hard, but the poly-coat finish is not, so you will get surface scratches. I have a cat with front and rear claws... she runs and slides on this floor. No scratches from that, so that is good. High heels: I have had friends with high spike heels walk on this flooring - no dents or depressions like you would get with maple. Just be careful with furniture as it will leave scratches. If I had little kids I'm not sure I would use this product - I would imagine that their toys would scratch the finish.

It does show dust and pet hair, but that was expected due to the dark color. I just run a duster over it everyday and no problems.

Over-all, this is a great product... High-end, natural wood look for a reasonable price.

I would agree with some of the other posters. I put in about 2000sqft of this flooring throughout much of my home. It went down very easily with the help of my Bro-in-law. However, it get scratched so easily. Part of the reason we ordered it was because Bamboo was supposed to be durable and we have 2 children (4 &1) and didn't want it to get destroyed. Well forget about the children, it get scratched with just normal walking. We live in the Northeast (NY) and during the winter months you tend to track sand in from the streets. Like everyone else, we have door mats and TAKE OUR SHOES OFF when we come in and somehow the sand still gets on the floor and destroys it. I didn't want to be THAT person, but when people come over I tell them to take their shoes off at the door because any little sand or grit on their shoes scratches it all over.

I love the look of it and the ease of installation but the durability is tough. There are a lot of days that I regret spending the thousands of dollars on it and wish I went with something else.

Despite all assurances to the contrary, this floor is easily scratched. We have had our floors in for less than six months and they are badly scratched. We do not have pets. All the furniture has scratch pads attached to the legs. We were told it was due to the dark finish. While the dark finish may show the scratches more, why is it scratching from normal use in the first place? If I could, I would rip these floors up – over 1,800 sq. ft. Please think twice before choosing this flooring.

After going back and forth between laminate and bamboo, we had this floor installed throughout the first floor of our new home, around 1200 sqft. We had a dark laminate installed on the entire second floor to save some money...the bamboo cost about 3 times as much as the laminate. From the day it was first installed, professionally by the way, we started noticing just how easily it scratches. Because the floor is dark, the scratches appear white and are very noticeable. We were under the impression that bamboo, strand bamboo specifically, was so durable and strong.

I knew beforehand that dark floors show dust and was accepting of that. I knew I'd have to be diligent about cleaning them. I absolutely love the look of the floors but am kicking myself for spending so much money on something that will be covered in scratches in no time. After 2 weeks, they're everywhere already! I'm very disappointed and would not recommend this product.

We installed this flooring over a slab and sub floor. It was very easy to install and looks amazing. We decided to go with this over wood because of price. We have had it in for a month now and are happy with how its holding up with our 2 dogs running around on it. Their nails do not seem to affect it at all. We have put a few scratches in it ourselves but have covered those up very easily. Half of our installation was over a concrete slab and the other half was over a traditional sub floor. we glued 3/8th plywood down to the concrete to match the height of the other sub-floor then used a foam underlayment which seemed to work out very well. Make sure to wear gloves when handling this floor we noticed that it can give you some pretty nasty slivers.

We installed this flooring throughout our entire home. It is a beautiful color. It does have a matte/satin finish so it is difficult to keep looking clean. The floating floor is soft on your feet and keeps warm. I find it easier to vaccuum than to swiffer, but be careful of scratching with the bottom of vaccuum.

I just installed my strand bamboo flooring - it looks great. I have some very fine overspray from oil-based spray paint on the finish. It almost looks like dust.

What is the best way of removing this overspray without harming the finish?

                            A:

Do not install flooring under permanent or fixed cabinetry. Hardwood, laminate (higher warranty laminate is better in high traffic areas like kitchens), cork, and bamboo is acceptable for installation in a kitchen, but we highly recommend you put a throw rug by the sink because an excess of water can damage any floor. These floors are water resistant relative to normal spills but not water-proof. Any soaking spills will destroy any flooring with the exception of ceramic or stone tile. I will send the installation instructions directly to your email. Thank you for your inquiry.

                            A:

Our wood floors are manufactured for maximum durability, easy maintenance and finished with a high quality aluminum oxide water base urethane UV cured finish. This step protects the wood and helps keep the flooring looking beautiful longer. While highly durable, the finish is NOT considered indestructible. However, by observing a few precautions like setting up a regular cleaning routine and simple maintenance program to protect the finish, you can expect years of performance and beauty from your wood floor. All wood floors can show signs of wear over time. There are many factors that can affect the amount of wear. These include the size and lifestyle of your family and product location.
                            The following cleaning principles are recommended for all of our products -Hardwood, Laminates, Corks, Bamboo and other Exotics. Outlined are examples of the reasonable and necessary maintenance to be performed; this is only intended to be a basic list;
                            • Immediately after installation, be certain that the flooring is completely cleaned and dry as described below. If you must protect the flooring from traffic, use only “craft” paper, brown, red or white, this will allow the flooring to “breathe”. Do not fully cover the flooring. NEVER lay plastic of any kind or any other non-porous material over the flooring as this can trap moisture, harm the flooring or fade the finish.
                            • Sweep or vacuum regularly, since built-up dirt, grit and sand can damage the surface of the wood. If using a vacuum, use a soft brush attachment -NOT A BEATER BAR ATTACHMENT. Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not damage the finish. When using a broom be certain that bristles are soft. You can also use a dry mop.
                            • Because of the myriad of cleaning products available and methods of each application, Lumber Liquidators cannot endorse or oversee the use of any Brand Name of floor cleaner. We do recommend cleaning products safe for urethane finishes such as our Bellawood floor cleaner.
                            • The use of a changeable terry cloth type system to clean the floor is highly recommended; apply cleaning solution to the terry cloth not the floor.
                            • NEVER use oil soaps, liquid, or paste wax products or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, Tung oil, silicone, or ammonia on pre-finished flooring. The use of these products will harm the long-term performance and appearance of your floor and may affect future re-coating. (Damages caused by non-recommended cleaning products are not covered by warranties). NOTE: This also includes the use of vinegar and water solutions as water can damage wood. Vinegar is an acidic element that can have an oxidizing, caustic effect on the finish.
                            • In an effort to clean hardwood floors, many have experimented with a variety of cleaners on the market and end up with a new problem. “How to remove the build-up of cleaning products revealing the original surface"? If this is the case with you, we recommend consulting with a professional cleaner local to your area because they can best see the details involved and make the most accurate recommendations. If you choose to remove the layers of build-up yourself, use cotton rags instead of a mop to control the amount of liquid used.
                            • NEVER wet-mop, damp-mop, swab or flood your floor with water or any other product. Moisture can seep into the seams causing edge-cupping damage. Urethane floors do not require wet mopping. Natural floors are water resistant, not water proof. Remove all spills promptly using a soft, slightly damp cloth
                            • STEAM CLEANERS OR WET-JET swiffer; Lumber Liquidators does not recommend "Water brooms" "Wet-Jet Swiffers or steamer type cleaners on laminates, corks or hardwood floors. Although steamers may work well cleaning OTHER types of hard surface flooring, the 130° to 240° heated steam vapor can ruin wood or urethane finish resulting in warped or cupped flooring. Water and wood do not mix well, especially steam. Use these products at your own risk.
                            • Do place protective mats at entry doors to keep dirt, grit, sand and moisture from being track in from the outside.
                            • Do use area rugs in heavily traveled areas and pivot points (e.g., stair landings, room entries, etc.), especially if you have a large family or indoor pets.
                            • When using area rugs, use a rug pad with a felt, plant or PVC based backing. DO NOT use area rugs with a petroleum based rubber backing (typically black) as this can cause permanent chemical staining/etching of the floor finish.
                            • Take reasonable precautions; use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood when moving heavy objects such as furniture and appliances.
                            • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and feet to reduce scratches and dents. Check and replace wore pads regularly.
                            • Keep pet’s nails trimmed, and paws clean and free of dirt, gravel, grease, oil, and stains.
                            • Scratches, dents and cupping are site related, not considered a manufactured defect.

                            RADIANT FLOOR HEATING

MORNING STAR bamboo flooring should not be used over in-floor heating and no warranties are expressed. If you choose to do so note these five tips.

                            1. Follow the instructions from the supplier of the floor heating system.
                            2. Concrete subfloors must be installed and cured a minimum of 60 days.
                            3. The heating system must be in operation for at least two weeks before installation to dissipate any residual moisture. During installation, the system may be turned off or set to a suitable installation temperature 60 -80°F, humidity 30 -50%.
                            4. Adjust the heating system gradually; the heating surface temperature must not exceed 85°F. Add humidification as needed. 5. Over dry conditions and excessive surface heat can create problems with the finish, board gapping and splits

                            A:

If needed, bamboo flooring can be fully re-sanded and finished about three times as any other species

A typical floor sanding involves using a special (drum) floor sander, edger, and a buffer/ polisher with a disc attachment for holding sand paper and buffing pads. The sanding procedure starts with a course of medium grit sand paper. After sanding the entire floor, repeat with a medium grit and complete sanding with a fine grit sand paper. This produces a fine surface and is ready for finishing.

However, because bamboo is a grass it tends to get “fuzzy”, “burns” or heats-up faster during sanding. Using a medium grit paper, approach sanding at a slight angle to the grain direction then graduating down to fine course, similar to sanding soft yellow Pine.

In most cases, a full sanding is usually not required, just a “buff & re-coat” or “screening & re-coating”. Buff & re-coat is light sanding using an industrial type buffer that removes surface scratches, cleans, and prepares the floor for new top finishes. This procedure really depends how the floor was used or abused. In general, high traffic areas; kitchen-dinette would need to be re-coated sooner than a bedroom or formal dining room. If your floors have been treated with any “non-hardwood friendly products” such as; waxes or has heavy wear patterns, or has lots of dents, then it would need to be fully refinished (Sand & Finish).

The techniques of sanding and finishing bamboo do require higher skills and are best left to professionals.

Here is the Suggested Sequence for bamboo sanding

First Cut: 60 grit paper at a 7-15 degree angle with the grain

Second Cut: 80 grit straight with the grain

Third Cut: 100 or 120 grit (CHANGE SAND PAPER OFTEN)

                            Suggested Sequence for bamboo Screening

First Screen: 100 or 120 grit

                            Second Screen: 150 grit

FINISHING: All surface finishes have been used successfully with bamboo. Darker colors will tend to show overlap marks. (NWFA) National Wood Flooring Association
