Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Easy Floating "Click-Together" installation
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

Floor is hard and durable. Very easy to install. Much easier than the laminet floor I installed 2 years ago. I recommend wearing gloves to avoid some bamboo splinters from back side of flooring. I highly recomend this floor.

I put the floor down over Thanksgiving weekend the product is excellent and easy to work with .The hardest part of the job was trying to understand why my 80 year old house doesn't have a square room in it but once we figured that out the flooring went down easily.did not need special saws or tools I just used a miter saw and a jig saw and I have a table saw which made cutting a few boards to width easy .We love the Bamboo and the color and the price and advice and service we got from lumber liquidators .If your thinking about doing flooring stay away from the big box stores and go to lumber liquidators they have the knowledge and will steer you in the right direction not to mention there prices are better

                  A:

                  RADIANT FLOOR HEATING
MORNING STAR bamboo flooring should not be used over in-floor heating and no warranties are expressed.
If you choose to do so note these five tips.
                  1. Follow the instructions from the supplier of the floor heating system.
                  2. Concrete subfloors must be installed and cured a minimum of 60 days.
                  3. The heating system must be in operation for at least two weeks before installation to dissipate any residual moisture. During
installation, the system may be turned off or set to a suitable installation temperature 60 -80°F, humidity 35 -55%.
                  4. Adjust the heating system gradually; the heating surface temperature must not exceed 85°F. Add humidification as needed.
                  5. Over dry conditions and excessive surface heat can create problems with the finish, board gapping and splits

I have this in an office space with rolling chairs. I've heard that chairs with wheels are detrimental to wood floors. Is it the same for this material? If so, would chair mats help or wheels that are reportedly designed to reduce/prevent damage to wood floors? Thank you.

Casters; Soft Neoprene Rubber Wheels or Urethane casters are flooring safe as well as Thermoplastic type casters. These casters can be retro-fitted.

              • Q:

What are the Janka and P.S.I ratings on this flooring? In addition, does bamboo flooring increase the resale value of a home in comparison to hardwood flooring?
Asked on 12/3/2012 by AJ from Indianapolis, IN

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Bamboo has an average hardness of some 1320 PSI when compared with Northern Red Oak at 1290 PSI, the standard as tested according to the (Janka) testing standards of the National Wood Flooring Association. Bamboo is a very dense grass and is therefore not held to the same hardness standards of solid wood. Published testing results vary greatly and merely provide consumers with reasonable “Product Expectations” before purchase.

In addition, the carbonization or steaming process of some styles to yield richer hues can reduce the hardness results to 1010 PSI, the approximate strength of walnut. Therefore true bamboo hardness can vary between that of Hard Maple or Heart Pine. Strand or woven products are substantially harder, about 2000 PSI.

Taking precautions such as: applying felt pads under furniture legs, sweeping or vacuuming often, using rugs or walk-off mats, or even enacting a “no-shoes in the home” policy as much as reasonably possible, are the best methods of protecting your floors.

Realtors agree Hardwood or Bamboo flooring will increase the value of a home especially when sticking to the same type throughout the home.

Is this product pet friendly -- is it resistant to nail scratches and, unlike laminate, not slippery for pets?
Asked on 10/24/2012 by Trisha from Utah

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

This strand bamboo flooring is 100% harder than red oak. Very strong and resistant to dents. That said, this like any hardwood flooring, can scratch but unlike site finished flooring this finish has 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss. Not as slick a surface as some laminate flooring but slippery compared to carpet.

Regardless of the floor you choose, keeping nails trimmed is a good idea. Another idea is to cover nails with "vinyl claw covers or boots" .

I have 3 dogs, two of them large, and a Bellawood Hickory floor (Morning Star has a similar finish) and it has held up great to 5 years of hard playing. Nothing is scratch proof and there are nail marks (slight dents) but the finish does not scratch off but rather keeps wood sealed. I don't care about keeping the flooring flawless because I understand the limitations of wood flooring. We keep the dog nails trimmed which is very helpful, if I wanted to keep the flooring flawless I would have vinyl dog booties and only socks and sneakers on the flooring. However, real life doesn't isn't always that careful so I simply relax, keep it swept, and clean with Bellawood Cleaner once a month and I could not be happier with my floor.

In a cross section of this flooring will I see one solid piece of wood or composite wood with a veneer finish on top??
Asked on 10/16/2012 by glen from 89123

                1 answer

                • Staff Reviewer

                  A:

You will see a solid board made up of stranded bamboo.
Strand or woven bamboo is created from waste strips of horizontal or vertical cuts and are
coated with resinous glues and compressed into boards using heat, then milled to create
tongue and grove planks. The strand woven process significantly increases the overall
strength of the material when compared to other bamboo flooring styles.
