Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x12 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:
Blocks fit together poorly and the voids created are poorly patched with filler. It will require extensive work just to fill so surface can be finished.

I used three of these to replace all the countertops in my kitchen. For the price the are very nice. There are gaps between the ends of the boards in each piece. They are filled in with putty. Yo can not tell once it is finished. I used waterlox. Only one side is really usable. The bottoms varied from ok to almost completely covered in glue. I anticipated that. It looks nice. I did it all with my wife. We don't have any special skills or anything. It came out good though. Ordering and pick up were also easy.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x12 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:
We replaced a burned and ugly pink formica countertop in a college rental with the Cherry Butcherblock countertop. I was mainly focused on cost, as I didn't want to spend a ton of money on granite or other hard-surfaces. We purchased the 12' length of cherry, and while it was awkward to pick up and move; it was definitely worth the effort.
I did not have any areas where we needed to add filler. As a matter of fact, we added no extra filler at all. We cut it straight, and butted the factory edges against each other. We will need to add some caulk here, but nothing excessive.
The most difficult part was cutting the sink hole, as this is a HARD wood. We used a jigsaw, and it turned out beautifully. I just sanded the edges slightly.
After putting several coats of oil on this, it is absolutely beautiful. Probably too nice for a college student!

I bought this slab of cherry to be a desktop for an office. I had to cut the ends square and do a lot of hand sanding to make it flat. I also had to fill many small gaps where the end of one 3/4" piece joined the next, which should have been unnecessary if the individual pieces glued into the one slab had been cut square to begin with. But, after a lot of work and several coats of clear poly, the desktop is beautiful.

Is butcher block a good surface to use for baking prep? Examples rolling out cookie dough, bread dough pie crust etc...1 answer
A:
Products used to seal and protect Butcher\'s block counter tops are divided into two simple categories, top coatings or penetrating sealers. Ultimately, the choice of which products to use depends greatly on the intended use of your counter top. Top coatings such as urethanes are more for decorative aesthetics. Penetrating sealers such as Tung nut oil, Linseed or mineral oils seep into the wood preserving and condition it. Penetrating sealers offer more versatile usage of Butcher\'s block counter tops allowing for safe food preparation, easy repairs and can be buffed to a gloss with a build up of 5 or more layers.Q:
