Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:
I decided on Butcher Block for all my counters in my kitchen remodel. The price cannot be beat, but they are certainly not out-of-the-box perfect.
Out of 2ea. 12' and 3ea. 8' pieces I bought and had delivered, all have at least several gaps in the glue joint lines which I will need to fill.
Two have gouges where something punctured the cardboard packaging...I did not catch these when they were delivered.
ALL have at least one dent on the edges (as previously noted by someone else) where they were strapped together in a stack at some point in time; This is evidenced by the depressions the banding left in the cardboard packaging as well as the actual damage to the wood.
They were delivered to me bundled with plastic wrap rather than banded...so it had to happen somewhere further up the supply chain. I hope the companies involved (mfg; retailer; shipper)will take a closer look at how they are handled in transit! You need to do something other than band them for shipping!! This degrades the end product
I have adequate enough skills to make the needed repairs (hopefully), but someone expecting that there be NO or minimal imperfections and damage free will be disappointed. Understandably, these are bulk and very heavy...I guess I half expected that they would not make it to my door unscathed, and I had a fairly high tolerance for some issues...at the price point and availability, I can live with having to do a little touch up.
Also, understand that they are finished on the edges and top only. The bottoms are uneven (gauged or only slightly planed...there is quite a bit of difference between the strips of the block; but since they are countertops, the bottoms don't need aesthetics...only need to be level where they will meet the cabinets they will be installed on.
My take away is that this is a reasonable value that will look great in the end.
I did have a professional wood worker with a CNC router cut out my (under-mount)sink opening and scribe drain-board lines into the top....can't wait to see how they look when they are stained and sealed!
Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:
I bought this to use as the countertop in a kitchenette in my basement. One side was in very good condition and so that is the side I used.
The other side had a least one major flaw. There was about a quarter inch wide by two inch gap in one of the pieces. It would have been very difficult to get it to look good. I am assuming the fact that one side was good is why it would pass inspection since you only can have one side up.
The second flaw was that the long edge was not square. It bowed in the middle by at least an 1/8". It stuck out on one side and in on the other.
That part was disappointing and would have required considerable planing in the front and back to get it to be a straight edge on both long sides.
Since this is in our basement, we weren't our normal picky selves and used it as is.
Overall, it was acceptable to me and I would buy it again, even knowing what I know because I wanted an 11'8" long top so there would be no seams and this fit the bill at a reasonable price.
It accepted stain easily but as you would expect there is quite a bit of color variation due to the large variety of pieces.
I was told that once I signed for it, it was mine so you may want to open it and check it out before you actually buy. If both sides had had a gap like the one side did, it would not have been acceptable.

We used over 20 feet of this Butcher Block in our garage with new cabinets to serve as a large workbench and combination Man Cave. It looks great and now my wife and kids want to come out to the garage too. We also used oil instead of varnish which gave us the protection we wanted for the countertops.

I put the countertops in a work room, works great for that. There were a lot of boards glued up to make it which is understandable, but there were a lot of gaps especially where the ends were glued up. In my application I did not mind but I would never put it in a kitchen due to bacteria getting/breeding in those gaps. It's better suited for a laundry room or workshop. If you're doing a kitchen spend the extra money and get a good quality butcher block countertop.

I love having butcher block in my kitchen.. There were a few problems such as the wood was bowed, and they didn't do a fantastic job with gluing all the individual pieces together to make the big piece of wood... It was however very easy to cut, sand. And stain!

With some threaded steel rods and hardware, the Williamsburg Maple Butcher Block Countertop makes a very nice and stable high-mass audio-component rack with an added bonus that maple has very good anti-resonate qualities.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:
We needed a cost effective and durable solution for a laundry room countertop. We looked at a lot of options including building a tiled countertop. While this was not the cheapest solution it seemed to be the quickest solution. The countertop definitely has a best side (even the two edges along the length of the countertop has one side better than the other). There were several small defects and areas that could have been filled better. But the price was the best among any other butcher block option we looked at. I recommend checking the piece before you purchase it to make sure you have something you are happy with. Since this was not going to be a showpiece we did not spend a lot of time filling or sanding out the defects. With some sanding and three coats of poly on it the countertop looks great. And it will surely stand up to many years of hard use in the laundry room.

Luckily I hired a woodworker to build the island. It took I'm several extra hours to fill all th gaps in the wood and sand the rough surface to a useable finish. Recommend a close inspection of the wood before buying. The price is good compared to some other suppliers I looked at, but the quality seems to be reflected in the price.

I agonized over busting my budget for granite vs butcher block countertops! I made the right decision it allowed my husband and I to splurge on a new faucet, back splash and a vented hood. I made the decision to have our handyman stain and seal our tops because we have no plans to ever cut food on them. They are attractive and expensive looking- the wood is so thick!! I hope this helps take a look:)

Great value, and very practical. I wanted to upgrade the counter tops in 1980's house but save the cabinets. Granite was considered but that is not do-it-yourself project like this one is and I did not think I could reuse the cabinets as easily as with butcher block. This last 12' piece had a defect from strapping probably, that dented the sharp edge a bit. I had to sand off and then hide it on the back side of the counter top. Not too bad, and had already cut the product by time I found it. Check it good before you buy, because it is easy to dent the edges!
