Does this material help prevent mold growth underneath and above (between sheet and vinyl flooring) if it gets wet from spills or sump backup? Can spills be dried out or does the vinyl need to be removed?

This a waterproof plastic sheet designed to stop moisture passing thru it.

Mold does not discriminate, if the conditions under the "floor" are right (moisture, food and the right temperature) mold can grow.

                      • Q:

When installing the 6mil moisture barrier on concrete, is it okay to tape it where it ends (onto the concrete) and then also tape the seem from the piece on top of it? I did this already, so I'm hoping it's okay. I did run it up the baseboards 2-3 inches and used a 6-6 inch overlap.

                          A:

At only 6 mils thick, not an issue with overlap. This is not a padding.
                          Applications
•Use as a moisture barrier under floating floors over cement, non-porous kitchen vinyl, or ceramic tile.
•Do not use over wood subfloors as that can trap or condense moisture.

                          Benefits
•An impermeable moisture barrier guaranteed to prevent moisture from getting to your new flooring from the substrate when installing over concrete slabs.
                          •Perm Rating is 0.06

                          Instructions
For best moisture protection, overlap seams 6-8", tape seams well with duct tape or an aggressive plastic tape. Allow the vapor barrier to run up the walls 3-4". The excess can be trimmed once the installation is complete.

Please note this product does not have attached padding.
The 6mil poly is great for blocking moisture but an underlayment (cushion) would also be recommended for sound & proper support.
