Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x  4-3/4" Tobacco Road Acacia Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Tobacco Road Handscraped:

This product looks outstanding in my great room and kitchen, the boards are shorter than most hardwoods, but the look is worth it. I have nothing to complain about, the floors look better than I expected and have transformed our space.

    Service and delivery comments:

I picked up so no delivery.

Product was in great condition, with little to no waste.

My husband installed this floor with the help of a friend. This was his first time installing hardwood and had no problems. It went in very easy. We have three dogs and it is not slippery as tradtional hardwood because it is handscraped. It does scratch just like any other hardwood. Because it is handscraped it hides the scratches very well. You can only see the scratches if you get down to floor level. Very easy to clean. We are very happy we chose this hardwood.

Was a little worried about the wood being so hard. But installation was easy and I had minimal splitting. The compressor set at 80 psi seemed to work the best.

Was somewhat disapointed with the number of boards that had filler. If you want a floor that is uniform this is not the product for you. If you like a floor with a lot of character and variation you will probably like this floor.

My wife and I looked at wood flooring for over six months and continued to return to the Lee's Summit Missouri store and look at this product.
Had it installed last month and could not be happier with the floor. We love the choice we made. Jake and crew at the Lee's Summit store were great to work with. We did have the floor professionally installed. The contractor said it was about the best product he had ever worked with. We installed 950 sq ft in our living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway and master bedroom.
Thank you Lumber Liquidators for making our house become the home we always dreamed about.

              • Q:

We looked at this flooring this weekend. We really like it, but in the showroom there were some gaps between boards. The saleman said that is because they use scrap pieces in showrooms. But after reading some reviews on here other people seem to have this problem. Are these boards that inconsistent? Also, I have 1/2 inch partical board subfloor. Can I just pull that up and lay directly on top of 2x6 t&g decking.

                  A:

Floor Gapping can be caused by several factors:

Separating or gapping with a hardwood floor can be caused by major expansion/contraction from temperature/humidity shifts beyond the manufacturers recommended levels (consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and humidity levels of 35% - 55%). These levels should also be consistent during the acclimation process as noted in the instructions.

You should be okay nailing to the decking. If you want to be certain there is no movement of the subfloor and have very good nail bite or if you are running the flooring parallel to the decking, Cover the decking with 3/8" plywood to isolate board movement (expansion/contraction) that can differentiate from the flooring expansion/contraction rates.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/assets/images/installation/va_millworks.pdf

can I get rid of the scratches on the top coat? I installed 1000sf this past weekend and on Monday my dogs jogged in and scratched the floor fairly significantly. Looks to be the top seal and not the wood. Looks terrible. I've had hardwood floors before and I know they scratch, but this seems to be a little excessive. Steel wool? really fine sandpaper? ??
also, it is a little deceiving to have 'virginia millworks' on the packaging and then have 'made in china' on the interior labels. very concerned about the Quality control. Floor installed well with no gapping though.

Stained flooring can be better because of the colored stain will provide more of a uniformity and lasting color. Natural color flooring on the other hand will change with age and exposure to UV light. These changes will even out with time. There are no set levels for these natural changes.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

                Hello,

Are these planks pre-finished all over (ends, sides, bottom) or just the top? I ask this to understand if, upon installation, a final finish over the installed floor to seal the cracks/joints to mitigate liquid getting into the joints and under the planks is appropriate. I noticed in one other Q/A, it was not recommended to put a finish over the top of the installed floor which means the joints will not be sealed and if pets or other liquid (tracked snow, spilled water) gets on the floor, it will seep into the cracks/joints. Would a felt underlayment to soak up the liquid be better than a waterproof one that will hold the water against the underside of the planks (again, are they finished/seald all over or just on top)? My application will be about 1,000 SF on the second floor over a full heated/finished basement.

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

The top is finished with 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss. The rest is raw wood as it should be so the flooring can breath. Prefinished hardwood, bamboo, engineered, and laminate flooring should not be sealed after installation and does void the warranty. Sealing between boards (seams) will crack during normal expansion and contraction. In addition sealer won't adhere to original finish unless it's lightly sanded (Not Laminate) and then use a water based flooring grade urethane. Or you would use a Bona Kemi prefinished floor resealing product. Www.bonakemi.com. However this is not recommended for pre-finished flooring unless it is worn and in need of refinishing.

If you happen to spill water on your floor, clean it up as quickly as possible. Use area rugs where necessary. If massive amounts of water leak out onto the floor, such as a refrigirator or dishwasher that has leaked , it might damage the floor to the point where it would need to be replaced. Most homeowners insurance companies would cover the repairs needed if this were to happen.

When using area rugs, use a rug pad with a felt, plant or PVC based backing. DO NOT use area rugs with a petroleum based rubber backing (typically black) as this can cause permanent chemical staining/etching of the floor finish.

I'm thinking about installing this floor. I live in MN, and the air is dry in November, but in the summer months it is humid. If installed in the dry weather what will the humidity to do it?

Not recommended. Virginia Mill Works Engineered, because of it's dimensional stability, is a better choice.
