Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Beech:

I love my new floors!! Looks modern, contemporary and clean! I get compliments from everyone all the time even the friends that don't like the light colored wood. It has a lot of color variation not just all light. There are a little darker pieces thrown in also which I love. Now I can't wait to do my upper level with the same floors!

And if beech is unsuited to the unmoderated San Francisco climate, what is the lightest-colored hardwood that is?

        Thanks

Strand natural Bamboo would be a great choice (highest stability and hardness).

      • Q:

You say, "Beech wood is on the lower end of the stability scale so proper acclimation and a controlled environment are the keys to a successful installation." How about an uninsulated, mostly unheated Edwardian in San Francisco? Temperatures range from about freezing (if no one turns on the heat), to the 80's or so.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Not recommended. Urethane finish can't handle the dimensional changes that take place with extreme environmental shifts, so you can use an unfinished hardwood finished with tung or other natural oils as with covered porch flooring. These site finished penetrating sealers expand and contract with the flooring without cracking.

      • Q:

Is this wood good for stairs and is it comparable to a extremely thick/strong pergo? Thank you

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Solid flooring and nosing are always preferable to laminate flooring on stairs. Stair parts should always be nailed and glued.

is this a suitable wood for use on floors with underfloor heating?

      • Q:

what are the average and maximum board lengths?
What type of edge (square edge or beveled)?
How does this wood compare with others in terms of dimensional stability?

        Thank you

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

The average board length will be about 3 foot. The Maximum board length will be about 7 foot. There will be a micro bevel on all four sides of the planks. Beech wood is on the lower end of the stability scale so proper acclimation and a controlled environment are the keys to a successful installation.
