  • Q:

Does this butcher block have a lip over the edges? or is it one solid piece that will be directly on top of the cabinets? I am asking so I know if I need to account for the thickness in addition to the current cabinet it will sit on. Thanks

  • Q:

Can you stain the island top a darker color? Does that affect the usage as a food prep area?

      A:

Yes this oak butcher block can be stained and then finished with urethane.
Urethane in its cured state is not poisonous (think of your dining room table), food is usually prepared on a cutting board anyway to protect the wood.

  • Q:

I need a 40" wide x 72" top. Is it possible to glue two of these together along the 72" side? Are the edges "square" enough to butt together?
Asked on 10/19/2015 by designerevan from chicago, il

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

      Yes.
The edges are "square" but may need to be recut for a perfect joint!
Two sections can be joined together.
      1) For a good glue edge bond; using a straight edge guide and saw recut 1/8"or so off one side of each piece you are joining.
      2) For center support and strength; Use a biscuit jointer or doweling jig, then wood glue the edges and bar-clamp until dry, re-sand. Add proper support to the completed counter to help support the seam joint.
