Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

I think the pine I got is actually designed for wall installs, not flooring. It has a tongue and groove that doesn't match tightly for floor use. I got something that I could have just bought locally, so I am disappointed. I can't use this pine for flooring. So, I will have to use for wall possibly.

T&G pines is expected to have character marks, knots ect.. but this product had 6 to 12 inch splits, missing tongues and chatter from the planer. I expect to have some scrap with this type of product but not 20%.

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

This floor gets four stars because it turned out beautiful, however there was about 50% cull. If you use this, you will need to get half again what you need. With the price, its not really a problem. It is also not cut to be floor, they are selling wainscoating as a floor, you put the v-side down and the smooth side is exposed. I cannot stress enough, the floor really turns out great even with all the cull.

If you use this floor, it is very soft. You must use pads under your chairs, or the floor will dent.

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

I used this for both my garage walls and ceiling and attic walls and ceiling. Adds a lot of character to both. Very easy to work with if u have the tools. I used circular saw, jigsaw and brad nailer (pneumatic). Finished entire garage (21x16) in just about 10 hours with no help and a 6' A-frame ladder at my leisure. Attic took longer about 2 days due to cutting outside then having to trek it up two floors to attic. Now, I have two man caves, depending on her mood, to use. I recommend it for those two rooms for the fact that it is a great cover over studs and looks fantastic when completed. Now, I gotta look for flooring in the garage!!

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

not bad wood given the price per sq ft. There is a lot of waste though. If you order this plan on about 10-15 percent waste. Warping was not as much of an issue as poor milling. There were quite a few boards with broken and or missing tongues/grooves, saw marks, machine marks etc. expect to have lots of gaps as well. If you are nailing down, this is not as bad since you can use the nails to help pull the boards together, but gluing may be difficult to get nice tight joints. Since it is knotty pine, it has a very rustic look and we didn't mind the gaps or rough finish. We put this down as a floor in our house, but it would do well for walls or ceilings too! there are no tongues or grooves on the ends of the boards like laminate which is actually good since there is so much waste you can just cut off bad portions and keep laying them.

      Service and delivery comments:

We chose to have this delivered to our local store for pickup as home delivery was far too expensive. The wood arrived much sooner than expected. We were quoted 2 weeks, but it actually arrived in about a week. It came bundled on skids, not a pallet or boxes. We ordered roughly 700 square feet and it fit in the back of our Toyota pickup. Was six feet long, three feet high, by about four feet wide bundle with plastic bands. The guys at the store said we were responsible for hand loading it! After some negotiating, we talked them into using their forklift to load it into our truck for us. I was a little disappointed that they expected us to hand load loose wood piece by piece. I could understand if it was a bunch of boxes, but this was around two hundred pieces of lumber! we would have spent hours loading it, when it took them five minutes to use the forklift. This was at the Syracuse LL. Your local store may be different.

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

We used this upstairs in an open area that will be used as a library/office. We are very happy with how it looks with poly but be careful after installing our contractors stepped on it and we were unable to remove those marks/footprints with regular sanding. The boards mark easily and were marked up from just moving around. We were not planning to stain the boards which could mask the marks so we used polyurethane on top and just had to deal with the fact that there was nothing we could do about it. If you install yourself you could be careful to avoid this problem.

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

Putting this wood down was pretty easy - keep in mind a misplaced hammer blow will leave a mark. I am painting the floor - the irregularities in the surface (knot holes and cracks) are not really an issue in my case. There are some boards that are slightly wider or narrower which makes it hard to minimize a few of the seams. The ends of the boards are not tongue/groove and not always perfectly square. My main complaint (which is not huge) is that there was no protection from the shipping straps so a few boards were damaged - I used them at the wall were I had to rip one edge anyway. It just seems like a few pieces of sturdy cardboard or plastic could have prevented this.

Comments about Clover Lea 3/4" x 5-1/8" x 6' New England White Pine:

We just love our new pine floors!!! We actually flipped them over so the grooves aren't flush, giving more of the barnwood/modern rustic feel to our home. We hired contractors to install the floors in the main part of the house while we installed the kids bedrooms. The floors were so easy to install, the grooves fit perfectly together! We really love the knots in the floor, when stain is added to it, they really pop! There were some "bad ends" but you just cut those off and use the rest. We used a dark walnut stain, the pine took it wonderfully and turned out beautiful!!!! I will be buying more for the sunroom when it comes time!

Easy to handle 6' length. Easy on the saw blade because it is soft.

        True to measurement, as advertised.

If you are looking for perfect/no defect boards this is not for you. Strictly a rustic design.

I read the Installation guide. For Underlayments, do I choose one out of all six listed? Or do I use a couple from the list, at the same time? For example, do I use the Felt Paper AND Bellawood Premium? Or can I select just Bellawood Premium (as long as subflooring meets 3/8" thickness requirement)? We're new to flooring. thanks!

            A:

An orbital sander needs to be used. You do not need a heavy grit for new pine floors. Carefully start with 120 and finish with 200. Keep dusk off with a vacuum then wipe with a clean cloth before finishing. Penetrating natural sealers like tung oil work best with pine.
