Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1-1/2" x 25" x 8' White Oak Countertop |
|
|
Form meets function in kitchens that have butcher block countertops by Williamsburg Butcher Block Company. The close grain provides a smooth surface, easily cleaned and cared for. White Oak is characterized by its gorgeous light brown coloring, with slight pink and gray tints cast across some boards. Not to be outdone, its open grain is absolutely captivating, with long rays and the occasional swirl and burl. An extremely popular choice in American homes. It takes a lot of work to turn this product into a useable countertop - lots of filler is used to make up for poor glue joints and defects, and do not expect a straight edge or square end from the factory. Does come nicely packaged in cardboard.

I installed these as my new kitchen countertop.
We have a large kitchen and these were cheaper that laminte but MUCH prettier. I just oiled them with mineral oil and created a richer color. Very thick and expensive looking. Some gaps in wood where joints are but not too many. Adds character. Also these countertops were not made to square but my hubby is pretty handy and evened them up as we installed. I am very pleased!

The solid oak butcher block in both 8 and 12 foot lengths were used to fabricate our entire kitchen counter area. We treated it with simple mineral oil and it is beautiful. The quality is excellent and of course we knew before purchasing that only one side and all of the edges would be first rate. A light sanding was all that was needed. We look forward to enjoying it for many years to come. As it is solid oak and 1 1/2 inches thick, it does require a few people when moving and installing.

It took me about 8 hours sanding with a finish sander to get them smooth enough to stain and finish. The end product is beautiful in my kitchen.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but I expected the top of the butcherblock to be flat and smooth. It was neither. I'm going to have to do some serious sanding to get it to where it can be used as a table top.

We bought the counter tops as a new change to the kitchen and the tops came out way better than expected and especially made the wife very happy with the out come of the butcher block counter tops. I highly recommend them. Everything came out so good we are buying 2 more 8ft butcher blocks just to make a kitchen island just for fun.
