  • Q:

I've got one of these oak butcher block 8' sections in the shop being prepped for installation. The question is; how often does a customer wind up getting one that looks as if it hung up in the thickness planer on both sides? There are three very distinct spots in the 8' length where the material hung up in the planer and I must say, this looks terrible! Can I expect higher quality control on the Cherry butcher block tops?

This should not have passed quality control, (should only need a "light" sanding for finish prep); please contact your local store where purchased or call our Customer Service Dept. @ (800) 366-4204 for help with this question.

This solid Oak product comes unfinished with square edges on all sides, but can be easily tooled (shaped) using router bits and finished to your liking.

  • Q:

I bought six full size pieces of the builder grade oak butcher block and I'm trying to save time. Do I need to prepare them by sanding from 120 to 220 or are they ready for staining as they are now, which are pretty smooth.
Asked on 10/21/2016 by NVGMedia from New York, NY

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

They are smooth and generally need sanding only when you router an edge. However most finishes apply better after a light sanding.

  • Q:

I am interested in the Oak countertop is my understanding that if I do not want to treat it with oil and I do not want to stain it because I like the light color that I would want to have a seal finish? Is this done with polyurethane or?
    Asked on 8/17/2016 by Qwho

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Yes, polyurethane is a good option to finish this butcher block.
