We made a custom countertop for a custom island with this piece of butcherblock. We found there were minor flaws that we could work around and we found the oil really brings out the beautiful colors. Without oil the butcherblock is boring.

It takes a lot of work to turn this product into a useable countertop - lots of filler is used to make up for poor glue joints and defects, and do not expect a straight edge or square end from the factory. Does come nicely packaged in cardboard.

I installed these as my new kitchen countertop.
We have a large kitchen and these were cheaper that laminte but MUCH prettier. I just oiled them with mineral oil and created a richer color. Very thick and expensive looking. Some gaps in wood where joints are but not too many. Adds character. Also these countertops were not made to square but my hubby is pretty handy and evened them up as we installed. I am very pleased!

The solid oak butcher block in both 8 and 12 foot lengths were used to fabricate our entire kitchen counter area. We treated it with simple mineral oil and it is beautiful. The quality is excellent and of course we knew before purchasing that only one side and all of the edges would be first rate. A light sanding was all that was needed. We look forward to enjoying it for many years to come. As it is solid oak and 1 1/2 inches thick, it does require a few people when moving and installing.

Is this surface designed for normal oiled butcher block use? Or does it require an acrylic sealing?

                                Finish your countertop as desired
                                – Treat with food-grade mineral oil for use as working food preparation surface
                                – Finish with other product approved for intended use such as a urethane finish

Does the butcher block come with directions on finishing? How much sanding will be required? What do you finish it with?
