White Oak's grain is open, with longer rays than Red Oak and occasional swirls and burls.

What is "Natural Grade"?
Natural Grade has some color variation, mineral coloring and small knots. It can also be referred to as #1 or 2nd grade.

    Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

We needed an inexpensive way to put the same wood floor in our office as the rest of the entryway to kitchen and in time for the whole floor to be sanded and finished. This was perfect!

    Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

I purchased 6 bundles to replace linoleum in my kitchen and blend into the surrounding floors as well as to do some patching where I removed a wall. All in all, I ended up with a decent looking result but the effort was a little higher due to the quality of the wood. Lots of bad warping, cracks, splinters, broken tongues and grooves, cratered knots, etc. Some of it looked like damage due to mishandling. I think this stuff gets beat up quite a bit as it travels. You have to be really creative with your board usage to keep the waste down, cutting out bad spots and using them in the proper position so the cut part is against a wall. As others have said, there aren't a lot of long pieces but the floor I was matching didn't have a lot of longs either, so I didn't care too much. Most of the longest pieces were so badly warped they were a struggle to install or had to have a section cut out to avoid the severe bend which would not allow the board to fit tightly against the others. The wood matches my existing floors OK. It had more knots than I expected, which my existing floor does not have. If I were to do it again I'd choose select as it's only slightly higher in cost.

        Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

The colors are nice, the boards were in good shape. However, there are not enough long boards. I think this is pretty common no matter where you buy your flooring, but it needs to be said. Long boards do a great job of keeping all the shorts together, so the more of them you can get the better.

          Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

We purchased 32 bundles of this flooring and had only one bundle with a lot of bad pieces, rest of the bundles only had a couple. This was our first time installing a hardwood floor we had no trouble doing it ourselves and had very little waste - the overage the store calculated for us was just the right amount. With two people we installed 600 sq ft in about 12 hours.

          Service and delivery comments:

Service at store was good, we were able to purchase what we needed and take it home with us.

Overall, the product is good...I would recommend the Select if you are trying to match existing, older floors that have a deeper red tone as the #1 just doesn't have enough of it.

              Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

I tore out a wall and discovered that there was no flooring underneath it - Surprise!! What do you want with a 1942 home. So I looked everywhere for the same wood to patch the hole in the floor worrying I'd never find anything. I did a Google search and viola! Lumber Liquidators. They knew right away what species it was, they knew right away what I needed. Unfortunately I couldn't buy just a few pieces, but no matter the cost was so low it really didn't matter - cheaper than if i had a pro repair it ([$] how could you go wrong right?) So I patched the hole (I had no clue what I was doing - but figured it out) and you can't even tell there was a hole there. Now... what to do with the rest of the wood?? Butcher block counter maybe?? If only I had another house in need of hardwood flooring... such a wonderful selection!!! [...]

I needed unfinished white oak flooring to do extensive repairs on the white oak flooring in my 30's bungalow. A professional did the repairs and refinished the floors. The new flooring matches well and had minimal waste. Most places sell the red oak, but very few the white oak which was used in this age home. It was well worth the price, and worth the 120 mile round trip I had to make to get it. The salesperson was very helpful. I would reccomend the product and the store.

I put this product in our bedroom and hall. Looks great, but took a good deal of prep time. With careful planning we got a +95% use of all the boards. Each board needed a light sanding before putting the finish on due to small splinters or 'glazing' due to being bundled for a while. I pre-finished each board with 1 coat of lacquer and sanded with 360 grit before installing. I glued every 3rd board to help reduce the expansion. Fit was very good with very few 'open' seams over the 18'x18' area. The variation in color adds to the appearance of the floor. I applied 3 additional coats of min-wax floor poly and have a great shine and a great looking floor. I also glued 2 boards together, ripped off with a table saw each edge and used the flooring for base board.

                Service and delivery comments:

The folks at the store were very helpful. Only down side was in the shipment I received about 1/3 of #2 grade vice #1 grade and the clerks had not inspected the order prior to my pick-up. However they immediately called in the replacement order and it was received in less than a week.
