    Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

Easy to install. Just be sure your starting line is straight, you staple into the tongue side of the board, and that you staple 3 inches from each board end. I had it finished with 3 coats of semi-gloss poly and it looks great.

    Service and delivery comments:

Picked it up at the store. They will offer a bit more than you ordered for a bit more cost, due to how it's bundled. Take it. Then you can discard any questionable pieces and you can always return unopened bundles. Better to have a little more than not enough.

          Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

Overall, it was a near-perfect match for the hardwood product already in my home. My complaint was that this supposedly "select" grade product had a lot of waste due to pieces with damaged finish or tongue-in-groove connections. I ended up needing an extra bundle to make up for the throw-away pieces, and some of the installed pieces needed a lot of sanding to make them blend in(it wasn't a huge amount, but 10-15% damaged was more than I expected for "select").

The only reason this product didn't get five from five was . . . once I acclimated the flooring in the home for a few days (which you must do!) two pieces warped. Which is the nature of real wood. The product is really good, very well machined, and it is described as select oak, because it really is. Thus making the install a treat!
            Thanks Guys!

I have installed many 3/4" oak floors over the years and usually there are a few pieces of unusable wood in each bundle. I was happy to find that not a single long piece was bowed or severely stained.

The quality of the wood and the moisture content were good. The quality of the milling was poor: uneven and hard to knock together. The professional installer (30+ years of experience) said if he ever has to install this brand and source of unfinished material again he will charge double. He also said, "You get what you pay for." The finished job is OK, but it took a LOT of work: an extra day (for 1375 square feet) and a great deal of sanding.

                Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

The material is what you would expect. No issues yet.

With that being said, apparently this material only comes in unpredictably sized "bundles", but the website sells it as fixed size boxes... it is a problem.

The stored (1+ hr away) called me to tell me that my wood was in. When I arrived they informed me of the bundles, that my order would require only 15% of another bundle, and that they "won't split a bundle". My only option was to buy another bundle (in this case, $100). I don't think it's a sales gimmick, but it certainly was a waste of money for me, and the store was not willing to compensate for the mistake.

So I guess my advice is to avoid ordering this product online and just order it directly from the store where they can tell you what size their current bundle inventory is.

                Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 2-1/4" White Oak:

I bought this to match older oak flooring in my house. The subcontractors hired by Lumber liquidators were great. I ended up hiring those guys to refinish my bathroom tile after they were done with my floor, lol. I used just felt paper underneath but wish I spent the extra money for something for sound deadening because my daughter is a level 9 gymnast and is always doing jumps and flips in the house. I am convinced my floor will last 100 years and will outlast the house. After 4 months, the finish is starting to yellow slightly so that it matches the floor in the hall. We chose this so that the varnish on the top would seal the crevices between the boards because my kids are always eating and spilling drinks. I am convinced that the problems people have with the prefinished floors over time is because of the lack of varnish filling in the cracks between the boards. Overall, love my floor but too bad it cost so much money just to do a little bedroom. I noticed the price went up 20% in the last 4 months too. The photo attached is before the varnish was applied. Mine is the house with the pink walls in case the photo is not attached.

                      OWNER/INSTALLER RESPONSIBILITIES
Exotic and domestic hardwoods are beautiful and unique products of nature characterized by distinctive variations in grain pattern and color. These natural variations are not flaws; rather they make up the natural beauty and uniqueness of hardwood flooring. These inherent variations should be expected, only topically stained products will have the most uniformity in color or shade. Our floors are manufactured in accordance with accepted industry standards, which permit a defect tolerance not to exceed 5%. Defects can be of a manufacturing or natural type. When flooring is ordered, depending on layout or species, a 8 - 12% extra material should be added to the actual square footage amount needed for board selection and cutting. Diagonal layouts or custom installations usually require about 15% more. During installation any boards deemed unacceptable should be replaced using the extra ordered. The use of sandable and stainable wood filler for correcting defects in unfinished wood during installation is accepted as normal procedure. Board width variances are considered normal. To minimize board edge gapping, board widths greater than 1/16” should be selected out and used together all in the same row or placed in closets or near walls. The customer/installer assumes responsibility for final inspection of product quality. Carefully examine the flooring for color, finish and quality before installing. Use reasonable selectivity and judgment, select out or cut off pieces with glaring defects. If more than 5% of the material is unusable contact your local store or call CUSTOMER CARE 800-366-4204 immediately. Before beginning the installation the installer must determine if job site and subfloor conditions are acceptable. Installers must be up-to-date with installation procedures.
