I use my remainder LL 3/4" Brazilian Teak hardwood to build the stair with the stair nose. The LL Brazilian Teak stair nose is 1/16" thinner than the LL 3/4" Brazilian Teak hardwood plank. It shouldn't be because the stair nose and the hardwood should both be 3/4" thick as per spec. It still looks good but when you step on it, you feel the stair nose is thinner.

What do would you recommend on refinishing this product? We have areas that color is worn. Would a heavier urethane help prevent this?

                      A:

I would recommend having this handscraped, stained flooring product done by an experienced professional finisher.
A screen and recoat involves lightly abrading the top surface of the finish with a screen or a pad and abrasive strip, then applying another topcoat. Clean the floor in accordance with the finish manufacturer’s recommendations. Lightly abrade the old finish according to finish manufacturers’ recommendation. Vacuum and tack floor with proper solvent, depending on finish, and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply surface finish. Most surface finished floors can be walked on after 24-48 hours. Do not slide furniture on the floor. Lift it into place after 48 hours or as recommended by the finish manufacturer. Area rugs can be put down after the finish is fully cured, generally after 7 to 30 days, or as recommended by the finish manufacturer. If the floor has visible dents, wear patterns or permanent cupping, recoating is not a viable
solution, and it will be necessary to fully sand the floor to restore the finish if the flooring is capable of being fully sanded. Finish adhesion is affected by surface contaminants, i.e. wax, grease and many other maintenance products. One brand or type of finish may not be compatible with another. Always test in several areas in accordance with finish manufacturer’s recommendations to be sure the finish will adhere and dry properly. A good place for testing is in a closet. To reduce claims and problems that may occur, a screen and recoat or full sanding is best if done by a professional sand and finish expert. NWFA Sand and Finish Guidelines

                      A:

                      Thank you for your purchase.
All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

                      Avoid shocking the floor.

Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the specs tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdf
                      Thank you for your question.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.

In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.

                      A:

Yes this solid oak can "handle' the weight but keep in mind that any natural product will exand and contract and the flooring would be locked in place with this application.
If possible install cabinets first and install up to them leaving the proper expansion gap.

Yes this solid wood flooring can be used for this application.
Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
