Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

  • Q:

What do u clean the bamboo flooring with ? We installed ourselves and forgot to ask. Can u put anything on it to repell water ?
Asked on 4/14/2015 by Rhonda from NC,Linden

      A:

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. In addition, we do not recommend using steamers or wet-jet cleaning systems for hardwood because spraying can collect moisture in between board edges.
      2) ROUTINE MAINTENANCE and PROTECTION

      Do
      1. Sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly with a recommended floor attachment (not a beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish. A more frequent dust-mopping or vacuuming schedule may be required in very sandy areas such as a beach home.
      2. Periodically clean the floor with manufacturers cleaning products or products made specifically for urethane finishes; never use oil soaps, detergents or wax.
      3. Use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen.
      4. For tough spots, such as oil, paint, markers, ink, or tar, apply mineral spirits on a clean white cloth then wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any residue.
      5. For spots such as candle wax or chewing gum, harden the spot with ice and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper, such as a credit card.
      6. Entry mats will help collect the dirt, sand, grit, oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer or pool chlorines that might otherwise be tracked onto your floor.
      7. Keep your pet's nails trimmed to prevent them from scratching your floor.
      8. UV sunlight will enhance the tone of different species of hardwood to varying degrees. Periodically rearranging your area rugs and furniture will allow the floor to antique or age evenly.
      9. Use a dolly when moving heavy furniture or appliances; use a piece plywood or Masonite to protect the floor. Never try to slide or roll heavy objects across the floor.
      10. Use floor protectors under desks and wide-load bearing rollers to minimize indentations and scratches from heavy objects such as office desk chairs. As a rule, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector.
      11. Maintain a normal indoor relative humidity level between 35%-55% and temperatures of 60°-80° throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction of the wood.

      Do not
      1. Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, delamination, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty.
      2. Do not use steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or strong ammoniated or chlorinated type cleaners.
      3. Do not use any type of buffing or polishing machine, these can generate heat or hot spots.
      4. Do not use rubber, foam or plastic backed mats as they may discolor the flooring finish. To prevent slippage, use an approved rug underlayment.
      5. Avoid excessive exposure to water during periods of inclement weather.
      6. Do not walk on the floor with stiletto heels, shoes with sports cleats or exposed metal parts.
      7. Do not allow sharp, pointed, or rough textured objects to be exposed to the hardwood flooring.
      8. Lumber Liquidators does not endorse the use of steam cleaning machines on hard wood products, use at your own risk.
      9. Toys and tools can scratch the finishes, scratches and dents are jobsite related, not warrantable.
      10. If using glue-down or floating installation methods, do not allow foot traffic or heavy furniture on floor for 24 hours.
      Enjoy your new floor!
      Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

What touch up kit would you recommend that I purchase to repair dents and scratches in my Morning Star Antique Click Strand Handscraped Bamboo Flooring?
Asked on 4/14/2015 by Bob from Caledonia, MI

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Wax filler sticks, stain markers and color-putty are now available at your local Lumber Liquidators and at most home centers that are used for minor hardwood repairs. This process is used to fill-in face-nails, nicks and gouges. Select the appropriate stick color to match the damaged area. Often several colors are used to blend colors for exotic species, bring a scrap piece of the flooring to match it up. Thank you for your inquiry.

When installed over a quality underlayment this click Bamboo will not sound "tinny/hollow" (as laminates can), however it will not sound like a solid nail down floor.

  • Q:

I am interested in this product, and I talked to a sales rep at the local store about it. He told me that it really needs to be glued down, because we live in the upper midwest (Wisconsin). He didn't elaborate, and I didn't ask anything about it, but I really do not want to glue the floor down. Obviously his advice does not match up with the product installation instructions (that gluing is required), but are there any regional considerations I should be aware of? Thanks!

      A:

Our products are successfully installed "Nationwide" the key is acclimation & maintaining the interior climate as per instructions.
      Acclimation Steps:
1.Home climate must be kept consistent at least two weeks before bringing the flooring in the home.
2.During Acclimation and after installation the home climate must be kept consistent. For example if home climate is 70F and humidity is 31% maintain these conditions during and after installation. Wood is hydroscopic and it can change dimensions when humidity levels change inside the home. A digital hygrometer can be purchased for $10 dollars to monitor these conditions.
3.Bring wood flooring inside the home, in the middle of the room to begin acclimation to home climate (all painting, or wet work should be done well in advance before acclimation of wood)
4.It is best to place sticks between each row of boxes to allow good air flow around each box.
5.Open up the last box stacked pull out the boards and test the Moisture Content of boards in the box. Also check to finish and milling for any issues. An initial moisture test the first day of acclimation can help give you an idea of how long it may take the floor to acclimate.
6.If the flooring is already at a Equilibrium moisture content to the conditions of the home the installation can begin in a few days as long as the humidity inside the home is kept consistent.
7.If the flooring is not within 2 percent of the moisture content of the subfloor acclimation time is extended until the wood flooring reaches proper balance with the subflooring.
8.If you receive the flooring and the moisture is high over 12% moisture on average then the flooring should not be installed. Return the flooring for new material.
9.Moisture testing should only be done with a species specific moisture meter. That can be set to calculate the species of wood being tested. Do not use a meter that cannot accomplish this task. I suggest talking to Lignomat for a good meter. One example is the Ligno DXC meter. Also be sure the read the meters instructions and know there limitations. Moisture testing should be documented with name of meter, model, and pictures that show date and time.
10.Again do not install flooring until a moisture balance is created between the wood flooring and subfloor. Extended acclimation time may be needed for exotic wood flooring.
11.NWFA states (acclimation can be facilitated by breaking the floor into small lots/ or opening the packaging and to cross stack the material with spacers (3/4” to 1” sticks) between each layer of flooring to allow air circulation around all sides.) Following this NWFA suggestion by opening up all the boxes and removing any plastic in the boxes can quicken the acclimation time, but if this method is done be sure to check for milling or finish issues prior to opening up all the boxes.
12.Once a moisture balance between the flooring and subfloor is achieved the wood flooring can be installed.
      Thank you for writing in!
