Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 50 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

  • Q:

I purchased 16 boxes of the antique hazel strand bamboo and had it placed in my home to acclimate. The first 2 weeks sitting in my house there was a strong acrid smell that has lessened over time but comes and goes. We have plans to install soon but I am worried now in regard to the smell. I know that with any construction materials there will be some sort of smell, but should I be worried that this signals any increased levels of formaldehyde in our bamboo?

Thank you for your recent purchase and contacting the Tech & Installation Department.
Hopefully I can answer any of the questions you have.
Bamboo does have a distinct pungent, odor that is somewhat unpleasant when you are not used to the smell of Bamboo flooring. If you add in the fact that it sits for quite some time in a ship hold, boxed and wrapped in plastic. So its only natural that it will release an initial smell from the finish as does any product that has been pre-finished and boxed up in this manor for this length of time.
However the good news is it should quickly dissipate.
I assure you Morning Star Bamboo meets and exceeds any and all European and United States standards.

CAN THIS PRODUCT BE USED OVER ELECTRIC RADIANT HEAT
Asked on 2/20/2016 by joseph from United States

      A:

Yes. you can find installation instructions on product page under the info/guide tab.
      RADIANT HEAT SYSTEMS
      General Precautions and Recommendations
This flooring can be successfully applied over radiant heating systems, surface temperatures should be maintained and never exceed 85°F, (30°C). Because of the wide array of systems on the market (Hydronic, embedded in concrete, electrical wire/coil, heating film/mat) each with its own features and applications please consult with your heating provider for their recommended installation methods. It's the user's responsibility to confirm the application or suitability of any selected radiant-heating system.
      Humidification
Radiant heat contributes to the drying out of wood flooring. For optimal floor protection the indoor humidity must be maintained between 30-50% year round. Proper humidity levels are maintained by use of a humidifier. To protect your investment and to assure that your floors provide lasting satisfaction a whole house humidification system may be required. Failure to do so can result in edge cupping, squeaking, delamination, splintering, cracking or other issues. Slight surface splits particularly at the ends of planks should be expected with installations over radiant heat and does not constitute a product failure.
      - Rugs placed over radiant heated flooring can increase the surface temperature in that area by 3°- 5°F degrees.
      - If using an adhesive to glue-down flooring over radiant heating systems, confirm with the adhesive manufacturer/literature the application and temperature limitations of the adhesive.

Can This floor be refinished over time like solid hardwood? Is it easy to repair small scracthes?

      A:

      Yes it can be refinished.
Wax filler sticks, stain markers and color-putty are now available at your local Lumber Liquidators and at most home centers that are used for minor hardwood repairs. This process is used to fill-in face-nails, nicks and gouges. Select the appropriate stick color to match the damaged area. Often several colors are used to blend colors for exotic species, bring a scrap piece of the flooring to match it up. Thank you for your inquiry.
