Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Low Emission Adhesive
- Glue or Nail Down
- Premium Finish
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

I love the wide planking of this bamboo flooring. It's a little darker than I would have liked, but the pricing made it worth it! I have it in my bedroom and it looks beautiful!

Installation was easy. Easy to keep clean. We have had it installed for two years and no scratches...even though our young son does circles around the island on riding toys.

We loved the look of this product but was skeptical because we got such a great deal on it. We bought it anyway and our builder laid it for us. He said it was the best product he had ever seen. Very hard and went down well. The bamboo was in great shape with very little waste. We love it! I will include a picture soon.

Beautiful unique/rustic look. After installing 2100 sqft of it in our newly built farmhouse we had some appliance delivery and install(pulling large commercial size fridge/range/dishwasher in and out of its place)Base moulding cut and install...we end up with a few minor scratches. At one of the stores the sales man recommended Old English on them-and WOW its a floor that looks like noone ever even walked on!!!First order was for kitchen/dining/great room/entry.We went back to get it for our mudroom, hallway, office, master bedroom and walk-in closet.Fits our need perfectly and soooo durable.(If you are in Jersey go to the East Brunswick store -you wont regret the travel time!!!)

Store 278: In April of 2013 we purchased flooring for our lake house. We held off giving a review until we opened the house from being winterized to see how well it upheld. Let me just say we had excellent service to begin with. The sales people were great! Walked us through our decision making on what would be best. The team was very knowledgeable, patient and went beyond and above for us. We had purchase wood floors for most of the 2500 sq ft home including the stairs. We've had other contractors coming and going throughout the house and the floors still look just as new as the day they were installed. It was a big decision to make and are very pleased with the outcome.

                                    • Staff Reviewer

                                      A:

Bamboo flooring can be fully re-sanded and finished as any other species

Typically floor sanding involves using a special (drum) floor sander, edger, and a buffer/ polisher with a disc attachment for holding sand paper and buffing pads. The sanding procedure starts with a course to medium grit sand paper. After sanding the entire floor, repeat with a medium grit and complete sanding with a fine grit sand paper. This produces a fine surface and is ready for finishing. Be aware that because bamoo is a grass it tends to get “fuzzy”, the surface burns or heats-up faster than wood during sanding. Approach the sanding at a slight angle to the grain direction then graduating down to fine course. The method is similar to sanding soft yellow Pine.

Note that in most cases a full sanding is usually not required, just a “buff & re-coat” or “screening & re-coating” may be all that needed to re-freshen a floor. This method of light sanding employs an industrial type orbital buffer fitted with a nylon pad and screen that removes surface scratches, cleans, and prepares the floor for new top finishes. Using this procedure really depends how the floor was used or abused. In general, high traffic areas; kitchen-dinette would need to be re-coated sooner than a bedroom or formal dining room. If your floors have been treated with any “non-hardwood friendly products” such as; waxes, oils, heavy wear patterns or has lots of dents, then it would need to be fully refinished.

The techniques of sanding and finishing bamboo do require higher skills and best left to professionals.

I'm planning to replace my vinyl kitchen floor. I prefer the look and warmth of wood rather than tile. Between the dogs' water bowl and the general spillage in a kitchen, I'm worried about the effects of water on the wood. Could you please educate me to the water resistance of pre-finished hardwood, bamboo and cork? I may also redo a bathroom, and I assume that the same type of flooring would work there. Also, please advice as to resistance to dog toenail wear and tear.

                                      A:

Water & wood do not mix.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

I'm looking at the Antique Strand Bamboo floor. What type of padding do you recommend? Do you glue or nail down the padding? Do you then glue down the wood floor to the padding? My wife doesn't want to click it, because the floor can then buckle. We have about 1400 sq. ft. to do.

No. Because of excessive moisture bamboo, like hardwood flooring, can experience damage. Half bath would be fine but full baths not recommended.

I have ceramic tile in my kitchen and dining area, and carpet in the living area. My home is on concrete, and it is the open area concept. Do I need to tear up the ceramic tile in order to glue down the bamboo? Since my home is on concrete, the living area which has carpet will not be on the same level as the dining area and kitchen because of the ceramic tile.

Yes. For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well (use as directed),

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner or wax of any kind.

                                      Yes it is possible,
This is a solid bamboo product designed to be nailed or glued to a wood or concrete substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
                                      Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.

Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your inquiry.

This is designed as a nail or gluedown floor however you may install as floating if you use Elastilon self adhesive underlayment as your installation system (found un Molding and Accessories) or over a floating plywood system. Details found in Flooring 101 - Keywords, "Cement" and "Elastilon" - www.lumberliquidators.com/custserv/aboutus.jsp?pageName=Flooring101
It also can be glued down with the proper adhesive, the existing ceramic will need to be prepared by grinding off the glazed surface in order for the adhesive to stick.

We are looking at replacing ceramic tile with the Antique Strand hand scraped bamboo. The concrete below the tile does have in-floor heat in the floor. We are replacing the dining room, kitchen, hall way and entry way with the bamboo flooring. Would this type of wood floor allow the in-floor heat to radiate through as easily as the ceramic tile as the in-floor heat is the only source of heat for the entire house?

Unfortunately we cannot recommend our solid bamboo products over radiant heat.
To answer your question a 9/16" Bamboo has an R-value of approx. R-0.48 where as a typical tile & thinset would have an R-value of approx. R-0.30.
