Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Low Emission Adhesive
- Glue or Nail Down
- Premium Finish
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

Exceeded expectations

Pros

  • Durable
  • Easy to clean
  • Great to walk on
  • Looks great

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Dining room
    • Family Room
    • High traffic areas

We needed to replace 20 year old carpet and wanted something easy to walk on, durable, and to go with the décor of our home. We got all three with this choice.
We had the Lumber Liquidator's 3rd party suppliers lay the floor. We had 700 square feet and it took them about 2 ½ days. They did a great job and were very neat. We have a grand piano and they laid the floor right under the piano. It was amazing to see how they did it.
My wife had a stroke which left her left side weak. She had difficulty walking on carpet. She loves the new flooring because it is easy to walk on, easy to clean, and looks great. She is very particular in her design choices and the floor exceeded her expectations.
We are already looking at putting the same flooring in our guest bedroom.

      Cons

      • Many Damaged Boards
      • Tough to Install

      Best Uses

We put this in our livingroom and it looks fantastic. We bought an extra 60 square feet and glad we did. There were a lot of damaged boards and it took some creative planning to be able to finish the room without buying more product. Manufacture says 5% waste allowance but if we tossed all the boards with bad spots we would have had 27% waste.

I love the wide planking of this bamboo flooring. It's a little darker than I would have liked, but the pricing made it worth it! I have it in my bedroom and it looks beautiful!

Installation was easy. Easy to keep clean. We have had it installed for two years and no scratches...even though our young son does circles around the island on riding toys.

We loved the look of this product but was skeptical because we got such a great deal on it. We bought it anyway and our builder laid it for us. He said it was the best product he had ever seen. Very hard and went down well. The bamboo was in great shape with very little waste. We love it! I will include a picture soon.

Beautiful unique/rustic look. After installing 2100 sqft of it in our newly built farmhouse we had some appliance delivery and install(pulling large commercial size fridge/range/dishwasher in and out of its place)Base moulding cut and install...we end up with a few minor scratches. At one of the stores the sales man recommended Old English on them-and WOW its a floor that looks like noone ever even walked on!!!First order was for kitchen/dining/great room/entry.We went back to get it for our mudroom, hallway, office, master bedroom and walk-in closet.Fits our need perfectly and soooo durable.(If you are in Jersey go to the East Brunswick store -you wont regret the travel time!!!)

                            • Q:

I have heard that bamboo can expand and contract significantly, despite expert installation, and is not recommended for locations with seasonal weather variations, such as the midwest. I was told that bamboo is a fine choice for a location with a more steady climate, such as Arizona or California. Is this information accurate? I was leaning toward this flooring choice and am now wondering if I would be better off with a different solid wood floor.

                              Thanks

                                A:

                                ACCLIMATION/CONDITIONING OF THE FLOORING
After harvesting, bamboo flooring is kiln-dried for optimum service. During transit, delivery and storage, bamboo flooring must be protected from moisture. Bamboo is hygroscopic, meaning its size and shape changes with the absorption or release of moisture. The amount of change varies with wood species, cut, type of flooring and work-site conditions. Therefore, bamboo movement (shrinkage or expansion) is to be properly controlled and achieved at the work-site. First, acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed to the expected environment that the floor will service while in the boxes. If products are packaged in plastic, remove the plastic wrapping from the outside of the boxes and open the ends of the boxes. If plastic is wrapped around the flooring inside of the boxes, open the box ends only, cut away plastic to speed up the acclimation process increasing air-flow. Strand bamboo can take extended time to acclimate to a new environment; however, length of acclimation time is not the determining factor. The goal is to reach an indoor equilibrium or balance between the core of the new flooring with its surroundings before assembly, fastening or installation. Extended conditioning is not unusual for strand bamboo species as it will slowly gain and lose moisture due to its density and finish coatings. For best performance, condition and maintain the flooring to consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%, before, during and after installation. Depending on your local conditions the use of a dehumidifier or a humidifier may be necessary to maintain the desired results. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning to balance the bamboo to the environment it will service. Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation, moisture testing of the subfloor and new flooring all work together for the success of the installation, and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project. Not following the above recommendations can negatively impact board performance and can result in excessive movement, squeaks, board gapping, board-edge cupping, finish splits and other related issues. This is especially true regarding flooring placed in seasonal or vacation homes without proper ventilation and climate conditions.
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the installation tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.
                                Thank you for writing in.

Unfortunately this stain is not available in a can for retail sale. I would recommend bringing a scrap piece of the flooring (and a piece of the wood species you will be staining) to a paint store and they should be able to match the stain for you. Thank you for your inquiry.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

When installing over existing hardwood you will need to install the new floor perpendicular or on the diagonal over the old.

                                A:

Bamboo flooring can be fully re-sanded and finished as any other species

Typically floor sanding involves using a special (drum) floor sander, edger, and a buffer/ polisher with a disc attachment for holding sand paper and buffing pads. The sanding procedure starts with a course to medium grit sand paper. After sanding the entire floor, repeat with a medium grit and complete sanding with a fine grit sand paper. This produces a fine surface and is ready for finishing. Be aware that because bamoo is a grass it tends to get “fuzzy”, the surface burns or heats-up faster than wood during sanding. Approach the sanding at a slight angle to the grain direction then graduating down to fine course. The method is similar to sanding soft yellow Pine.

Note that in most cases a full sanding is usually not required, just a “buff & re-coat” or “screening & re-coating” may be all that needed to re-freshen a floor. This method of light sanding employs an industrial type orbital buffer fitted with a nylon pad and screen that removes surface scratches, cleans, and prepares the floor for new top finishes. Using this procedure really depends how the floor was used or abused. In general, high traffic areas; kitchen-dinette would need to be re-coated sooner than a bedroom or formal dining room. If your floors have been treated with any “non-hardwood friendly products” such as; waxes, oils, heavy wear patterns or has lots of dents, then it would need to be fully refinished.

The techniques of sanding and finishing bamboo do require higher skills and best left to professionals.

I'm planning to replace my vinyl kitchen floor. I prefer the look and warmth of wood rather than tile. Between the dogs' water bowl and the general spillage in a kitchen, I'm worried about the effects of water on the wood. Could you please educate me to the water resistance of pre-finished hardwood, bamboo and cork? I may also redo a bathroom, and I assume that the same type of flooring would work there. Also, please advice as to resistance to dog toenail wear and tear.

I'm looking at the Antique Strand Bamboo floor. What type of padding do you recommend? Do you glue or nail down the padding? Do you then glue down the wood floor to the padding? My wife doesn't want to click it, because the floor can then buckle. We have about 1400 sq. ft. to do.

No. Because of excessive moisture bamboo, like hardwood flooring, can experience damage. Half bath would be fine but full baths not recommended.
