Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/8" x 5" Bahia Barra Jatoba Prefinished Handscraped Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Give your home a touch of that same simple elegance our ancestors cherished!
Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

Quick Highlights:
- Superior strength and stability in any room, including basements!
- Type of installation: Nail, Glue, or Float
- Beautiful handscraped finish
- 30 Year Warranty

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

Don't forget the molding and stair treads!
Click here to find our extensive selection of moldings & accessories for you to match wood species to your new floor.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/8" x 5" Bahia Barra Jatoba Engineered:

We could not be happier with our new floors. They clean so easily and look beautiful at all times. We have three small kids and they are very hard on floors but so far not scratches. I also use the Bellawood floor cleaner it is the best does not leave streaks and instantly makes the floor look brand new. Would totally recommend!

We have 70 lbs dog and we've had the floors for four months. So far the floors have held up, which is why we purchased this product. As you will read in the specifications, it has a very high Janka rating.

      • Q:

I have 3 dogs and always have accidents...is this wood advisable for pet owners? does it get scratch easily?
Asked on 2/11/2012 by ro from moreno valley, ca

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4mm click together product that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.

      • Q:

Can this floor be used in the bathroom? Will there be any moisture issues?

          A:

Due to the excessive moisture present in a full bath we cannot recommend any of our natural flooring or laminate products for this application, I would suggest one of our vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4mm click together product that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.

where can i get the threshold for this same product, or what color stain would it work to match it.

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

I apologize that we do not (as of yet) carry a matching threshold.
You could bring a scrap piece of flooring to a paint store to match up the color. Looks like it may be a minwax Ebony color and would look best on a maple wood threshold.
          Thanks for writing in.

Can this be used in a basement?
Asked on 1/24/2011 by Maggie from Toledo Ohio

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

Yes, the Virginia Mill Works 3/8" x 5" Bahia Barra Jatoba Engineered. Engineered floors work great in a basement because of their great dimensional stability. The basement should be climate controlled and a moisture barrier should be used over the slab. For installation instructions click on the link below.

      • Q:

Can this floor be refinished down the road, similiar to solid hardwood?
        Asked on 1/3/2011 by Anonymous

        1 answer

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

A full sanding; no, but it can be screened and recoated.
A screen and recoat involves lightly abrading the top surface of the finish with a screen or a pad and abrasive strip, then applying another topcoat. Clean the floor in accordance with the finish manufacturer’s recommendations. Lightly abrade the old finish according to finish manufacturers’ recommendation. Vacuum and tack floor with proper solvent, depending on finish, and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply surface finish. Most surface finished floors can be walked on after 24-48 hours. Do not slide furniture on the floor. Lift it into place after 48 hours or as recommended by the finish manufacturer. Area rugs can be put down after the finish is fully cured, generally after 7 to 30 days, or as recommended by the finish manufacturer. If the floor has visible dents, wear patterns or permanent cupping, recoating is not a viable
solution, and it will be necessary to fully sand the floor to restore the finish if the flooring is capable of being fully sanded. Finish adhesion is affected by surface contaminants, i.e. wax, grease and many other maintenance products. One brand or type of finish may not be compatible with another. Always test in several areas in accordance with finish manufacturer’s recommendations to be sure the finish will adhere and dry properly. A good place for testing is in a closet. To reduce claims and problems that may occur, a screen and recoat or full sanding is best if done by a professional sand and finish expert. NWFA Sand and Finish Guidelines
