Rio Verde 3/4" x 2-1/4" Select Brazilian Cherry Shorts Prefinished Flooring - 10 Year Finish Warranty

Brazilian Cherry is one of our most popular woods and well known for its rich color, hardness, and durability. It is an excellent choice for both residential and commercial use. As the color deepens with age it becomes even more stunning and is the perfect choice for any space.  Brazilian Cherry may show a myriad of hues from golden brown to reddish brown. This durable wood is perfect for high-traffic areas that call for a striking appearance.

What is "Select Grade"?
Select Grade flooring contains natural characteristics such as small knots and minor color variations produced by differences in natural heartwood and sapwood; It does however maintain a more uniform color.  As the floor ages, white mineral deposits may occur.

      A:

      WHITE SPOTS IN BRAZILIAN CHERRY

      The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Technical Help Department states; that occasionally Brazilian Cherry trees can have a high content of white silica/sap, which is almost imperceptible to the eye in the freshly milled flooring before finishing. This silica/sap shows up as faint spots - almost as if drops of skim milk had dried on the wood. Once the wood is finished and then as Brazilian Cherry darkens over time, these white spots, which do not darken, become more prominent against the now darker wood. There have been instances when using Brazilian Cherry where several to dozens of boards in a floor may contain these spots, which are in the wood itself and not in the finish, even though it may look that way at first. The only way to avoid them is to visually spot them before installing and not use boards with them.

      Many installers/finishers that see this for the first time assume that by resanding and recoating the floor these spots will disappear but this is not the case. The "white spots" actually go through the entire thickness of the wood and cannot be sanded out. This is a natural feature of the wood and is not visible when the wood is freshly milled, it is not considered a defect. In prefinished products, it is possible to spot at least the stronger in color white spots once the finish is applied and these are usually graded out at the mill. However, during the installation the installer should still look for those missed at the mill and not install pieces with these spots. Once installed and later found objectionable individual board replacements can remedy this issue.

      Neither the National Wood Flooring Association nor the wood flooring manufacturers consider this a manufacturing defect.

      The industry's rule of thumb, as stated by many wood flooring technical experts, is that;

      "If the problem in the wood product occurred before it was ever touched by a human or machine, it is not considered a manufacturing defect.
