It came down to a hand scrape or Ebony and my wife wanted Ebony. The floor is the hardest wood I have ever seen. 10,000 times harder than Oak. The floor is absolutely beautiful! However kids that walks and sweats and goes barefoot it shows every smudge known to man. ( Footprints) It cleans easy but you are always cleaning because of the high gloss finish.

The hand scraped I think would be better as low gloss shows o smudges. Plus any scratch would enhance the finish. at half the cost I would go hand scrape. I do get tons of complements but it is a lot of work keeping it clean. It is hard to install as the wood is so hard. Get plenty of saw blades and keep your staple gun tuned in just right or you will crack the tongue while installing it. Air pressure has to be perfect as it is the hardest wood I have ever seen. You can drop anything in it and it is hard to dent.

We hired a professional to install this flooring in our living room and bedrooms. We love the look and color of the flooring. The floor has sustained a couple scratches already but I'm told it's nothing compared to other hardwood floors. Our piano also left indents in the floor when we rolled it back into place. Now we have large, round floor protectors under the wheels and haven't had any further issues. I'm very satisfied.

This flooring is the best looking and most durable flooring sold by Lumber Liquidators. This floor is very, very hard wood and was difficult to install and get the nail gun and nails adjusted so tonge wood not split and nails would seat. This floor is great looking and will take a punishment. Slide a Piano accross the room and no dents. I recommend but need to address with installer that can install and is willing to hand drill and not face nail in the tight areas. I recommend this flooring because of its beauty and durability.

My wife made me do it. I fought for a bit, but then I saw the flooring and loved it. The prep work to install was the hardest part ( ripping up sub flooring, getting around cabinets). Installing the floor was a breeze, it was work but not difficult. I love the out come. More important so does my wife.

Has anyone else experienced splits/cracks in the boards after installation? Our floor has been down about 5 months and we have splits with residue (sap?) leaking out everywhere.

            Deep scratches

Deep scratches are best repaired using Wax color-fill sticks or lightly sanding and recoating the scratches.

Wax color-fill sticks are available from most home repair stores; these can be used to fill nail holes and deep scratches. Wax color-fill sticks will not dry-out like ordinary putties, it will protect against moisture and can be buffed to a luster. Just rub into a scratch and buff with a cotton rag.

        • Q:

Can you glue down 3/4" on concrete slab?
Asked on 6/28/2010 by Anonymous from Palm Harbor, FL

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Yes, you can install a ¾” solid wood over concrete using two different methods of installation.

            1.) Floating plywood subfloor system:
Concrete should be clean and level up to 1/8” over 6’. Apply a 6mil mil poly sheeting over the concrete overlapping the seams 6 inches and tape with duct tape. Install a layer of 3/8” plywood over the poly sheeting. Next install a second layer of 3/8” plywood at a 45 degree angle to the first layer. Screw the top layer of plywood to the bottom layer. Be sure not to penetrate the poly sheeting with the screws. Allow for a ½” expansion space between the plywood and any walls. Last install 15lb black roofing paper over the plywood and install the flooring over the roofing paper.

            2.) Elastilon underlayment:
Elastilon is a 1/8” thick underlayment with a self adhesive system. To use this product over concrete you will have to apply a 6 mil poly sheeting over the concrete first, overlapping the seam 6” and tape with duct tape. Roll out the Elastilon perpendicular to the direction of your floor installation. Butt the seams of the Elastion together (do not overlap). Next begin your installation of the flooring following Elastilons’ installation instructions.

            A:

By using a underlayment called Elastilon you can install this product over a stable, clean, and level tile floor. The Elastilon underlayment offers a 70yr warranty and is only 1/8" thick.
