Crafted Meticulously. Harvested Responsibly. We understand the importance of healthy forests. That's why we only buy from suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and carefully manage their cutting with replanting strategies in place. For us, it's not just about being responsible citizens. It's about being a responsible business too. One look and it's easy to see why Brazilian Koa is often called Tigerwood. Its distinctive orange coloring and brown/black striping make it one of the most unique and exotic species available on the market today. And its durability is simply outstanding, resulting in a "not-so-everyday" floor that will stand up year after year to life's everyday demands. We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.) About "Select Grade" Flooring It Taber Tested "the Best." When subjected to the industry sandpaper abrasion test, known as Taber Testing, Bellawood's durability results were more than double most comparably priced floors. There's good, there's better—and then there's Bellawood.

This last of three orders didn't look anything like the first two of the samples shown above or at the store. I'm going to take some photos and let you see.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
The install was pretty easy and it looks great. My only complaint was with the staple gun I used not the flooring itself. With the flooring so thin at 3/8" it was tough to get a perfect staple shot down every time. Also be careful when face nailing the boards. It was easy to split a board if the nail went in too close to an edge or if the grain direction was the same as the board cut.
Once it was down the finished product is stunning and seems very durable. The dogs don't even seem to be scratching it. Very Happy.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
Beautiful, but the week after we had installed, my wife had a party and someone with un-maintained high heels put hundreds of pencile eraser sized divots in our floors. When a woman walks the rubber off her heel, it becomes a hardwood floor killing device. Make guests take off shoes! I don't think it's as hard as oak, although it's rated higher on the Janka hardness scale.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
Install was without surprises and went quickly for nearly 3,000 sqft. Surprise came, however, within a week of installation. We have many windows through which sunlight streams and floor began to noticeably darken within a week. after a couple of months it was many shades darker. Then had to rearrange room and expose remainder of floor that had been under furniture, rugs, tables, etc., to sunlight so that it could equally darken. Was moving furniture and stuff throughout house for over a year to even out coloring. Also, although moisture readings on first floor (crawlspace underneath) were WELL BELOW nominal ranges, downstairs flooring began cupping within 3 months. Installed positive air-flow ventillation system for crawlspace which eliminated that problem.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
Great product & nice variation of color. We installed it everywhere except kitchen & front door entrance. We had an original carpet in the house that was built in 1980s. It was amazing how much dirt and dust was accumulated over the years under the carpet. The new floors made the rooms look bigger & brighter. Heavy furniture will make dents on the floors, so buy furniture paddings-very important. We live far away from the store, so we rented a Budget Truck - saved a lot of money. [...]We hired contractors to install, who had positive feed back about easiness of installation and glue quality.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
We have many antiques made from a diverse selection of hardwoods (mahogany, cherry, walnut, etc.) and were looking for a floor that would not clash with the finishes. The Brazilian koa (tigerwood) was a great match; the variation in the grain and various hues pick up and accent the other woods in the room. The 3" width of the planks allow for arranging the colors to their best advantage, and the various lengths of the planks break up any sort of pattern.
We have 2 dogs (a terrier and a beagle) and 2 small children (5&7), and haven't seen a single scratch on the finish yet.
Beware that the glue (adhesive) can get very messy and sneak up between the boards when they are compressed. Clean it quickly to avoid etching!
All in all the best looking addition to the house.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/8" x 3" Select Brazilian Koa:
We had our flooring installed about 4 years ago in our great room and dining room. It's gorgeous and durable. However, our children are grown and we have no pets. We receive many compliments on its beauty. We love the variety of colors. BUT, BEWARE...we have an area rug in the great room and the flooring is several shades lighter under the rug. We are not happy about that. We did have some wood left over and had it installed in a bathroom and on two landings about two years ago. It was much lighter, but now matches the rest of the flooring. So, if we decide to roll up the rug, we'll have a couple of years of mismatched flooring until it darkens and hopefully will match the rest. Was not inexpensive and would have appreciated being warned of this. We would have waited to lay the area rug down if we had known! We plan to install the same in our bedroom, but will not add any rugs for a couple of years. WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL US ABOUT THIS WHEN WE PURCHASED IT???

Service and delivery comments:
Customer service at lumber liquidators is/was great. When I asked the guy which one would you go with he answered honestly and I went with his choice. That is what I expect from a retail and service organization. Expectations were exceeded.

This is a beautiful floor but very hard to keep clean! I am now considering a light sanding and coating with poly-urothene. It shows every foot print and very hard to keep looking shiny and new. The upside is everyone who sees this floor comments on its beauty.

Q:
Are the edges microbeveled? or flat?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
All pre-finished hardwood flooring requires a micro-bevel in the industry.Q:
Can this floor be installed as a flooting floor over concrete?2 answers
A:
Unfortunately i would not recommend this "low profile" product for a floating application (including with Elastilon).CUSTOMER CARE
A:
No. Gluedown, naildown, or using Elastilon as your installation system. Elastilon is sort of a floating system. See - www.lumberliquidators.com/assets/installation/Elastilon20110419.pdfQ:
We are considering Koa for our kitchen floor. The substrate is a raised plywoood floor with Linoleum. Do I need to remove the linoleum and is the Koa a great choice for a kitchen floor? I am concerend about spills, durability, color changes and cleanup.1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
If your linoleum is well secured, flat, and level with a recommended subfloor you can nail down hardwood flooring over it. Many linoleum and vinyl floors have particle board or luan under them which is not a subfloor which can hold nails well. In this case a good choice will be a floating wood engineered or laminate floor. Or remove and replace with plywood.Q:
In order to glue this product a concrete floor your matrix says that - Sizes under ¾” -. Confirm that it has to be smaller than 3/4"1 answer
A:
Yes solid 3/4" Bellawood products are not recommended for a glue down application.Q:
I understand the lengths range from 1 - 7 feet. Best guess, what % or the boards would be 5 feet or longer?1 answer
A:
No way to guess.Q:
Is the koa suitable for bathrooms?1 answer
A:
Due to the excessive moisture present in a full bath we cannot recommend any of our natural flooring or laminate products for this application, I would suggest one of our vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4mm click together product that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
Can flooring be installed over a formacia floating flooring?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Floating flooring must removed, naildown flooring must be installed over;Q:
Can this be glued over particle board?1 answer
A:
Unfortunately not.Q:
The price difference between 3/8 and 5/16 thickness is significant. What is the advantage of paying 20% more for 3/8th thickness?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Better wear with thicker floors and can be refinished if necessary more times. In addition, 5/16 does better with a gluedown installation. 3/8 better for naildown. Either will require special nailers. Details type, "nailers" here - www.lumberliquidators.com/custserv/aboutus.jsp?pageName=Flooring101Q:
What is the length of the longest planks?1 answer
A:
This is a random length natural product that comes in 1' to 7' lengths.
