BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Brazilian Koa Prefinished Solid Hardwood Flooring

We Redefined Quality, Again. We set the quality standard by introducing a groundbreaking finish so tough it allowed us to offer one of the first 50 year warranties. Others followed. So, we raised the bar again. Now Bellawood is backed by a Certified 100 Year Transferable Warranty that covers you and generations to come.

One look and it's easy to see why Brazilian Koa is often called Tigerwood. Its distinctive orange coloring and brown/black striping make it one of the most unique and exotic species available on the market today. And its durability is simply outstanding, resulting in a "not-so-everyday" floor that will stand up year after year to life's everyday demands.
This product is proudly finished in the USA.

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

About "Select Grade" Flooring

Crafted to a Higher Standard. Every board is milled to precise specifications to ensure ease of install and topped with our industry-leading scratch-resistant finish. In fact, quality control engineers walk over 12 miles a day inspecting each board, before and after the finishing process.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Brazilian Koa:

We purchased the Brazilian Koa because the Cherry was out of stock and we didn't want to wait the two weeks for delivery. We are so glad we didn't wait. This floor is fantastic.I carry a small sample with me to show people the deep rich color and density of the wood. We will be going back to order more Koa for the rest of the floors in the house!

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Brazilian Koa:

We installed this flooring in our living room and it is beautiful, but beware. There are many color variations in this wood.We went through each box and eliminated more than half of each box due to the fact that there were alot of boards that had very dark streaks/lines that ran through them.Alot of the boards look like Brazilian Cherry which we liked. We actually had to go back and purchase extra boxes to pick through to finish our floor. Some people like that type of variation but we did not like it.We had a box of Brazilian Cherry left over from our bedroom and mixed it in with the Koa and it looks awesome.Brazilian Cherry was our first choice but it was on backorder for 3 months and we didn't want to wait that long. With all the extra Koa that we excluded from living room we have enough to install in our 250sq.ft. walk in closet so it will not go to waste.

In the summer of 2009, my husband and I installed Brazilian Koa in our kitchen/ diningroom. We bought enough flooring to continue into our livingroom and entry hallway. After a 3 year lull he decided to finish the project. We came across many defective planks: Short tongues, no oxide finish on the ends of the planks, a few that were cut wrong(crooked), and some boxes very little stripes and patterns. This floor is absolutely stunning!Avoid if you have chidren or pets!

Our floor is in the kitchen. It adds so much to the looks of the room. The color is beautiful and we look forward to it's darkening. The only bad thing about it is that the finish does not seem to hold up well. I dropped a piece of plastic, a top from a display case, and the result was a chip in the surface of the clearcoat. I think there needs to be a kit from Bellawood that gives you what you need to repair things like this. The chip is not in a place where many will see it, but after just three days i wonder what it will look like after a year or two. Yes, we would buy it again, but love is blind. Cheers

We had the Brazilian Koa installed in our dining room and library, and it looks wonderful in both rooms, despite the fact that the furniture and lighting and the rooms is very different. It cleans very easily and has shown no signs of scratches yet. Everyone who has seen it gives it rave reviews.

                  Service and delivery comments:

We used Lumber Liquidators installers, and they did a wonderful job on the installation.

When installing the floor, do you have to have any spacing between the boards or do you just butt them together as tight as they can go?

                  • Q:

I have radient heat in the floors where I am installing this product. My husband is planning on gluing and nailing it to the plywood subfloor. Is this going to be a problem? I read in the installation guide that this particular wood could not be installed with in floor heat underneath, but this is the only wood that I like and would still like to try and install it.

                      A:

Engineered wood and floating floors (floors not attached to the subfloor) are most recommended for radiant heat. However, if you should choose to use solid wood for this application select species with the best stability ratings. Be aware that even species with better dimensional stability characteristics cannot predictably be guaranteed to perform well over radiant heat. Therefore, solid wood applications over radiant in-floor heat is not recommended nor warrantied. Because of the wide array of in-floor heating systems on the market each with its own features and limitations please consult with your radiant flooring provider for installation methods and application advice.

I want to put this in an office. There will be furniture moved and some chairs in the office with no plastic underneath. Will it scratch or dent easily. Is there another wood that looks like this that may be more resistant to scratches? There is a lot of sunlight in the room. Will this cause discoloration easily. I want something that looks this good that will hold up.

The room is 14 X 15. I an thinking the 5" planks. Do you think this size is appropriate for this size room.I am thinking of a herringbone pattern. What do you think for this size room? Thank you..Peter

This material is our most scratch resistant flooring based on the Bellawood name, there are 8 layers of finish on the flooring which contain aluminum oxide throughout. If you using office chairs I would suggest the wheels are seamless plastic as the seams are normally what causes the the dents and scratches in flooring. In speaking of color change, that is a normally occurring process in all woods, and it will happen with or without sunlight, it is call Patina. The Patina process will be most visible in the first 6 months after installation and then from 6 months to 12 months the process will slow down and stop at about 1 year after installation. The 5" planks would look very nice in a room that size! If you have additional question you can certainly give me a call 800-476-0007

Great questions; I would recommend our Silicone Vapor Shield SKU #10021412 if your substrate is wood. If it is concrete I would use our 6mil poly moisture barrier and our Elastilon underlayment.
The surface temperature of the subfloor must never exceed 85°F in any location.

What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
                      Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
                      Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your question

I have a sand crawl space and am installing radiant heat from the crawl space. Any special sugestions? Which vapor barrior should be used under the flooring? I have 3/4" tounge and groove pine subfloor and will install a plywood subfloor over that. How thick should the plywood be so that the nails don't penatrate through to the pipes below, or how long should the nails be?

i love the brazilian koa, however we are installing it in living room that is by the front door. It is a busy area where we bring stuff into the house. I am afraid that the floor might not be the right one for this room has lots of traffic and I think that this floor may scratch, crack easily under these conditions. Is this the best floor for me? Is there another floor similar to the Brazilian Koa? Help! I don't know what floor is right for me. At the LL store in Westbury, I was led to Cherry, spend so much time with width and length and then found out after the fact that it was too soft for high traffic areas and now I don't know what to do????

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factor that influence wear.
Brazilian koa is a very hard species of wood (2160 on the Janka rating scale) but we have much harder products (up to 3800)
Check out our hardness and stability chart on "Flooring 101" for comparisons.
