Wood floors and water don't mix. But, Schön Engineered Floors are a perfect match for all areas of the home including those with a higher moisture content like: basements, bathrooms, kitchens, concrete sub-floors, and below grade installation. Quick Highlights: This product is also a good choice for installation over radiant heat sources and below grade applications. Brazilian Koa, often called Tigerwood, is truly one of the most unique and exotic looking species used in flooring. About Engineered Flooring: Want more? Lumber Liquidator$

Comments about Schön 3/8" x 3" Brazilian Koa:
Great floor. Takes a little more work to install properly with glueing of all T&G joints but worth the extra work in the long run. Color and different lengths are great. Boxes varried with 18", 24", 30", 36",48", and 8' lengths.

Comments about Schön 3/8" x 3" Brazilian Koa:
We replaced the carpet in living, bedrooms and hall with this engineered koa. The uniform perfect measurements and condition lead to almost zero wastage with careful planning. There is a high degree of variation in color and pattern to koa, so much aesthetic selection must be made while installing. The results are spectacular! We used the koa stair treads but found we could save money on trim and transition pieces by using oak which was a very good color match. Does scratch when our 45 lb poodle patches out, even though the sample seemed indestructible to keying, etc. Will have to clip dog nails more often.

Loved doing this floor. Installed 900 square feet in two days. Bought 10% extra for waste and actual waste was only about 2%.

Comments about Schön 3/8" x 3" Brazilian Koa:
It's a unique and exotic mix of dark and light browns strips that really look good. I installed the product back in 2008 and it still looks beautiful. I still get great comments from people visiting my house on the look of the floor. Now for the durability, it could be better. It can handle my large 60 lb dogs but my teen is rough on the floor, but now I know. I am getting more of this product for my office this week and moving my teen to another bedroom with carpet. How many more years until he graduates?

Comments about Schön 3/8" x 3" Brazilian Koa:
We had this product professionally laid about 3 years ago in our entire home except for kitchen and bathrooms. Everyone comments on the beauty of this wood, but it does scratch and dent fairly easily. Also I was warned it would darken and to not put a rug over it for about 6 weeks. A friend with the same floor was not warned and was surprised to see the difference in color under her rug. Even in a room where we waited over 1 year before putting down a rug there is a color difference now. In rooms where I could rearrange the furniture to expose the wood, I did. But I don't look forward to moving a china cabinet and finding a big light patch of wood beneath it. Makes it hard to rearrange furniture. Don't know if newly exposed wood will eventually darken to more closely match. It's a terrific looking floor, but I understand other woods don't have such a dramatic change in color from wood/air exposure. Definitely something to consider when deciding on this flooring.

Looks like a completely different condo after I installed this wood! EVERYONE who sees it is in awe at how beautiful it is! You just need to be very careful moving furniture, etc, as it tends to scratch easily.

Q:
What is the best cleaning procedure recommended for this flooring, I have been using a steam mop on the dust setting not hot steam but I'm not sure that is safe.1 answer
A:
We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
It says this flooring can be floated. Doesnt that mean it can be put down without glue or nails? Im assuming it means the flooring can be hammered together where the tongue and groove meet?1 answer
A:
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the specs tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdfQ:
We bought the 3/8x3 Brazilian Koa and we are going to install it by ourselves. Many people recommend to start the installation in the middle of the room and others from the edge of the wall. Which one is best?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Center out installation is good for large rooms where you have two installers or in hallways but generally you would start on the longest straightest wall. Running along a focal point like a fireplace or prominent windows or doors is also common practice.Q:
how long does thw natural color take to darken after the install1 answer
A:
Wood products can be dramatic in appearance, especially the exotics. Only factory made products such as tile, vinyl, and wallpaper will have uniformity of color. Keep in mind that wood and corks are natural product and no two installed floors will be identical. Variations in appearance are completely normal and are a desired characteristic. As your floor ages, color or shading called “patina” can occur. This process can be rapid the first 3 months, less in 6 months, then finishing off in about I year. Moving the furniture and rugs around helps to even out areas that were not exposed to light. Try to avoid large area rugs for the first 3 months.Q:
How long should I acclimatize wood prior to installation?1 answer

I purchased 700 square feet of Brazillian Koa from your Manhattan store. If I float the floor do I have to glue the seems. Keep in mind I did not buy the click and lock floor.1 answer
A:
If you float it you will need to use a tongue and groove adhesive. I would use the float method, I think it is easier than a glue down and less costly.
