I installed this floor in my kitchen over an Armstrong resilient composite tile floor. I first installed 1/4" lauan plywood over the tile. I bought a brand new Bostich sx150bhf-2 stapler [...] Once this gun is set up the install goes pretty smoothly once you get the FEEL for it. I made up a practice board and played around with it first. I had an inline psi gauge on my gun and it drove the staples in perfect between 110 psi and 90 psi. Then I had to bump up my pressure. With a good compressor you should be able to maintain the pressure. I only had a few misfires. You can tell if a board is harder than another because the staples will be harder to get in! The most difficult part is deciding which boards to mix. The colors are so different and unique that its like a puzzle to put together! They range from a blonde to a deep rich black and everything in between! Just AWESOME! I had very little waste and the handful of defective boards I was able to use under the fridge and stove. If you take your time and be selective of board placement you will end up with a spectacular and dramatic Brazilian Walnut floor! PS- I will be listing the stapler back on[...] as it is a most wanted item!

color of the wood blends well with all different woods... love love love it.... we put in living room and dinning room... now we are going to do 3 bedrooms and hallway.. it does seem to take some time to get product in at the store.. other than that everything was good.. we paid to have the floor installed and everything went great... very little waste...

I am so glad we decided on this floor over the teak. The colors are beautiful - not too dark or too light. Great contrasts!!! We have two boxers, which have already put some pretty big scratches in the floor, but we expected that and feel that it just adds character. My husband and I put down about 300 sq ft of this flooring in two days. We had never glued down flooring before and got the hang of it really quickly. Install was not bad at all....much easier than click-lock which we had done in the past. The glue can be really messy - have lots of mineral spirits on-hand and clean it from the floor as you go.

We are installing 1000 square feet of the brazilian walnut. Walnut wood is very hard, make sure you have a brand new blade or you will have splintered edges on your cuts. Paul at the Norfolk Va store was really great to deal with. He gave us an excellant installation tip, that I will pass on. We are installing the floor over plywood, using a pneumatic nail gun (18 gauge nails, 1 inch long). Paul recommended that we use floating floor tongue and groove adhesive (looks like white elmers glue that dries clear) along with nailing the floor in place. We have 2 dogs and three grandchildren, the "glue" seals the groove and we don`t have to worry about messes soaking into the grooves. Much easier clean up for those little accidents that come with pets and kids. This floor is very scratch resistant, and the wood grain is wonderful. All my neighbors that have put down pergo type floors, can`t get over the depth of the color and wood grain, making them realize just how "plastic" and dull those pergo kind of floors are. If you have pets or kids, this floor is the way to go.

We did our entire house with this product. It looks great. It wasnt very easy to install as couldnt use 3/4 nomadic nailer - had to buy special nailer to install into subfloor. Also wood is so hard we went thru some saw blades.
But overall we love the way it looks and for this price you cant go wrong!!!!

Don't be afraid of using as much glue as recommended. That glue is what keeps the boards from bending and popping like some wooden floors do.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 5/16" x 2-1/4" Select Brazilian Walnut:
The floor is beautiful, but glue down will not be our next option. Glue clean up, despite our most dilignet efforts, took almost as long as the installation. Big dog stepped into the mastic as it was setting up. Ended up shaving the glue off her. Little dog got stuck. Needed to apply Acetone and Mineral Spirits to rescue him and are still cleaning the glue from his paw pads. That's our fault for letting the dogs in the house while we were installing. Just wanted everyone to know how sticky the mastic is.
Overall, the floor looks great. Very little waste involved despite a couple of cracked boards and one or two odd sized planks. I'd do it again, but next time I would upgrade to the nail-down. What we saved in price cost additional time with clean-up not to mention the cost of the mastic and chemicals to clean up the glue. We learned to be stingy on the glue around the seams and place more attention on adhering the center of the planks to avoid seepage when suring up the seams
P.S. - The puppies are fine!
I love the color variations with the walnut.

Installation takes time but not difficult even for a beginner like me. I recommend knee pads. This wood is so hard and durable it is incredible. I installed 530 square feet over a 2 week period mostly a couple hours a day. I found a staple gun with a shoe that uses 18 gauge 1" staples for $140 on the internet. Worked great for the 5/16" Brazilian Walnut. Love it and more important my Wife Loves it even more!
Remember this walnut is not stained, so if it a deeply scratched the true color remains!
Service and delivery comments:
The people at the Buffalo store were great. Very helpful and nice.

Q:
Do I need any type of underlayment on the second floor? The house was built in 1996.1 answer
A:
Most installers will at least put down a layer of rosin paper or roofing felt to help the boards slide easier on the sub-floor.Q:
Can this product be refinished?1 answer
A:
Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished. Solid hardwood that is ¾” thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. Low profile solid wood flooring like 5/16” thick flooring may be able to be refinished twice if the flooring is in good shape. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
this floor will be installed on the thrid floor..told it has to be glued down......is there any sound proofing insulation available?1 answer

I would be glad to help you with this question.Q:
I was sold the bellawood premium underlayment and was told I could staple this flooring down over the underlayment. Now that I'm reading the underlayment instructions, it says its not recommended for nail/staple application on floors less than 3/8". Which suggestion is correct? I already went out and bought an 18 g stapler.1 answer

Hi, saw a great question/answer regarding moisture content in the wood and checking floors prior to installation. Our house is in Nipomo, CA about 15 mins. away from the beach. Typical temp is 65-75 degrees. Never under 30 when really cold. (yes, im lucky!) Not alot of rain either. About 13" a year, most being February at around 3" for that month. Will this be a good option? How do we test for moisture content in the flooring where we want to install? We will be ripping up carpet AND hoping to install over tile if possible. The tile is the large 12x12 style, can this be installed over that? We DO need to install with a water barrier underneath in ALL rooms correct? and some type of padding? AND, what is the least expensive but 'best' for padding for someone with bad arthritis? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you so much.1 answer

This is our Bellawood line that has the most layers of finish which is 8 and is very resislient to children, pets and high traffice - wonderful choiceQ:
