Wood floors and water don't mix. But, Schön Engineered Floors are a perfect match for all areas of the home including those with a higher moisture content like: basements, bathrooms, kitchens, concrete sub-floors, and below grade installation. Quick Highlights: This product is also a good choice for installation over radiant heat sources and below grade applications. Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Brazilian Walnut Engineered:
We had this flooring installed about 9 months ago and although it looked beautiful at first, it dents VERY easily. We made the mistake of putting it in a high traffic area (family & kitchen area) - after just a couple a months there were dents covering most areas. Any kind of pressure (sliding chairs), shoes (especially high heels) and anything that is dropped, will leave a permanant mark/scratch/dent. Love the range of colors and the width of the planks, however the flooring is not at all durable despite the hardness we were told Walnut has.

If I had to do it over, I would not of bought this product. I put it in a bedroom that I use for an office. Dents and scratches easily.

I installed this in our kitchen about 18 mos ago and it looks like it's been in for 18 years. You can see where every piece of silverware has been dropped. It dents at the slightest impact. Drop your keys, cell phone etc. We cannot roll our refrigerator out without placing some pieces of the old laminate floor down or it will crush tracks in the floor. Looks great, just don't use the room you install it in.

A great way to dress up a room and you are complete in two days. It is very easy to cut and fit and I did not experience much waste at all. Always glue the short ends together. Enjoy!

I am not satisfied at all with this flooring. I regret buying it. This flooring looks nice but it is not very strong despite being Brazilian Walnut. The very thin layer of walnut with the soft plywood layers underneath makes this flooring easily dentable. I do not recommend this flooring for anyone who drops stuff or has children.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Brazilian Walnut Engineered:
It took me a lot longer than most to install it, but I did the job by myself. However, the end result was fantastic. The wood surface is very hard - I can't understand the comments to the contrary. I wouldn't roll heavy equipment across it, but it will certainly withstand normal traffic.
A few things I would pass along to others like me. First, I ordered 7 boxes. I opened the first three boxes and based on what I saw, I started my work. In the first 4 boxes, there were only 4 foot pieces and the color didn't vary too much. In the 5th and 7th boxes, there were several tiers of 1 and 2 foot pieces and the 5th box was much darker than all the others. If I had opened up all the boxes first, I would been able to mix these into the entire room, but I got surprised 3/4 way across the room. My pass-along - open all the boxes first and take a peek before you start.
When watching TV, I don't know how those people do it in a few hours. I took me a lot longer than that... but, the result was worthwhile. Just putting on the new cove molding took a long time.
When you get to the trim around the doors, it is better to cut the trim shorter and have the wood go under it than try to do fancy cuts with the wood.
Lastly, it looks better in person than in the pictures.

I purchased this flooring about a week and a half ago and installed it our entry, living room, and a hallway this past weekend. I can't really say much about the durability of the floor because it's only been finished for a day, but I can say that it looks beautiful! NOTE - Every piece is a different color. Do not buy this product if you want a solid color floor. My wife and I wanted the varying colors so we are very happy with it. The colors range from a deep chocolate brown, to a beautiful red, to almost a sand color. I can't wait to get all of our furniture back in today. I thought I would have a difficult time getting the floor pattern to look random and not have seams line up, but it wasn't too bad. You just need to take your time. If I'm able to, I'll add pictures to this review later so you can see the finished product.[...]

Bought this floor due to the beautiful colors. It looks good at a glance and thats it!! No matter what you drop it dents the floor. We have a 3 year old son and if he drops a toy it dents. Drops the remote it dents. When we first got it my son would drop his sippy cup, and now there must be 20 dents in our living room from it. Oh even our furniture legs sitting on the floor has caused dents. Its been 6 months now and our floor looks awful. [...]

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Brazilian Walnut Engineered:
I put this floor in my new remodeled kitchen. I love the varying colors of the floor, and it looks beautiful when first cleaned. But once someone walks on them they look awful. All I see is footprints and smudges. It seems to have a cloudyness and dullness to it. I have only used the recommended cleaner on this floor. I have to clean them everynight, its horrible. It's been installed for three weeks and I already have a million dents and nicks. Even a plastic cup that dropped on it dented it. I would not recommend this floor for anyone who has little children.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Brazilian Walnut Engineered:
Understanding that this is a slim veneer, I still cant believe how terribly these have held up. I had these professionally installed 3 months ago, and in that short period of time, these things are pretty much ruined. They scratch like crazy. And the slightest scratch shows up dramatically. Its almost humorous how easily they dent. I kid you not: I dropped my wedding ring from waist high and it DENTED the floor!!! These floors are the epitome of penny wise pound foolish.

I'm so frustrated with my vinyl floor I want to replace it with something I can safely and without damage use in my kitchen and laundry room. I'm on a slab, and I need to be able to pull the fridge out to clean behind with out ripping, tearing, denting, etc. Also, my mother lives with me and uses a rollator to get around, would this floor bear weight?1 answer
A:
Yes this should be able to handle the rollator walker but as far as the fridge being rolled out; that can damage any flooring. I would recommend using 6" x 4' strips of thin plywood (luan), masonite or wood paneling to roll the fridge onto and protect the flooring.Q:

Yes. Use floor protecters like caster cups or large felt pads to protect the floor.
