About Bamboo:
Bamboo floors' popularity has increased over the past few years as people have become more aware of the fragile state of the environment.
Because it is a grass rather than a wood, it grows far more quickly than a tree. The plant's extensive root system continually grows underground and it replenishes itself naturally, as grass does.
New growth, which springs out of the ground and can mature up to 24" in  24 hours and unlike trees, bamboo will regenerate quickly, making it a renewable resource.

  • Q:

Can the Bellawood Bronze Ultra-Strand Bamboo be refinished? If so, how many times on average?
    Asked on 9/28/2015 by Chad

    1 answer

If needed, bamboo flooring can be fully re-sanded and finished about three times as any other species

A typical floor sanding involves using a special (drum) floor sander, edger, and a buffer/ polisher with a disc attachment for holding sand paper and buffing pads. The sanding procedure starts with a course of medium grit sand paper. After sanding the entire floor, repeat with a medium grit and complete sanding with a fine grit sand paper. This produces a fine surface and is ready for finishing.

However, because bamboo is a grass it tends to get "fuzzy", "burns" or heats-up faster during sanding. Using a medium grit paper, approach sanding at a slight angle to the grain direction then graduating down to fine course, similar to sanding soft yellow Pine.

In most cases, a full sanding is usually not required, just a "buff & re-coat" or "screening & re-coating". Buff & re-coat is light sanding using an industrial type buffer that removes surface scratches, cleans, and prepares the floor for new top finishes. This procedure really depends how the floor was used or abused. In general, high traffic areas; kitchen-dinette would need to be re-coated sooner than a bedroom or formal dining room. If your floors have been treated with any "non-hardwood friendly products" such as; waxes or has heavy wear patterns, or has lots of dents, then it would need to be fully refinished (Sand & Finish).

  • Q:

What country is this made in?

The Country of Origin for this Bamboo product is China, it is not included in the 60 Minutes allegations.
It is perfectly safe and is not subject to CARB. We abide by CARB regulations.
Our bamboo floors are an entirely different product. They are made differently, and with different materials. While these products are not regulated by CARB or any other emissions standard, Lumber Liquidators has established strict formaldehyde emission standards for its solid bamboo products, and these products offer extremely low formaldehyde emissions. In addition, Lumber Liquidators regularly tests these products to monitor conformance to these specifications.

  • Q:

Hi there. I have an existing hardwood floor that I would like to keep in place if possible (height issues, simplicity, etc), and while it may be a little un-traditional, I would like to find out if I can have an installer glue down Bellawood Ultra-strand Bamboo over the top of my existing Hardwood. The existing hardwood flooring is flat and may in fact take the new material if nailed down, (the hardness of the bamboo makes it seem like it would be difficult to nail-thru with any consistency from what I've read and heard from a few contractors in the business) therefore I really like the idea of gluing it down. I have read conflicting stories as to whether or not its possible (or recommended) and I need a final answer from you guys if you can...
