Comments about Dream Home - St. James 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate:
We went to LL to buy the Brazilian Cherry but the wife fell in love with the 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate by Dream Home. The salesman "demonstrated" how easy the units went together. I expected the flooring to be simple fold and click installation. Boy was I wrong. This product is definitely not meant for the first time installer. What should have taken me two days to do has turned into a four day project. Not one time did any of the boards provide any tactile or audible cues that indicated a successful lock. I found out these are laid by 1st - creating a mate with the long edge 2nd - bringing the short edges close together, 3rd - using a scrap piece of the same flooring to help keep the two panels in line, 4th - using the tapping block on the opposite short edge to close the gap and mate the short edges. 5th - use the tapping block on the long edge to assure a smooth v-groove. Of course this was using the Manufacturer's instructions. Having to do this to install 240 boards was a nice workout to say the least. But I needed a good workout. Found muscles in my legs I never new I had. The price point in relation to the quality of the floor was great. But not so good when it comes to ease of installation.
Service and delivery comments:
Salesman kept asking same question about sub flooring and transition needs over and over and still didn't get it right. Sold me 2 rolls of vapor barrier that I didn't use because the manufacture's installation guide expressly stated not to place a vapor barrier over a wood sub-floor. But other than that, the store visit was pleasant.

was very difficult to snap together per length & ends would not tap together with block.need 3 helpers to put together may help. not a one person job.difficult to handle with heavy boards to slid together. Boards were warped a little witch does not help snapping & sliding together.recommend thinner mm boards for average avid do-it-yourselfers.

Comments about Dream Home - St. James 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate:
Very hard to install....we ended up hiring a profession, and they told me it was hard for them to install too. They said it didn't lock like it was suppose to, for whatever reason. It does look nice, but if you plan to do this yourself, I cannot recommend it.

Comments about Dream Home - St. James 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate:
After finishing, the professional installer that Lumber Liquidators recommended, said that this peticular floor was, indeed, difficult to install. He said that they usually "lock" into each other, and that you can hear them "click" when they are locked properly, and that this one did not do that and that it was one of the harder floors they had dealt with. It does look beautuful, but was very difficult to install.

Comments about Dream Home - St. James 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate:
I went into Lumber Liquidators to buy St James Collection African Mahogany because of all the good reviews found during my research but it didn't look as nice in the store at it looked on the computer. So I ended up with Burnet Rd Russet because it looked so much better. But I hadn't done any research on it. Came home with it, saw the reviews on installation and cringed. Well, my experience was the opposite. It went into a 170 ft sq room in a day - albeit, a long day. but I did it by myself and I haven't laid a floor in 10 yrs. I did follow tips from this blog and I can add a tip of my own. There were a few pieces that seemed a little warped and corners would pop up so I weighed them down with the rest of the planks. It seemed to work. Also the employee at LL told me the key to a good and non-frustrating installation was to make sure the first 3 rows went in tight. The floor looks great but of course it's only a few days old. The real test will be in the coming months. I will jump back into the reviews after the floor is 6 months old with an update. But so far, I love it and well worth the money.

We ran into a problem with packages having the same board and no variety of pattern. I called the service warranty department. They were wonderful and located our flooring at another store and got us back on schedule the next day.

Comments about Dream Home - St. James 12mm Burnet Road Russet Laminate:
Have installed lots of flooring. This style is exceptionally difficult. Went back to the store to get some other stuff after battling with the installation and the salesperson mentioned that their installers hate this style because it is so difficult. Would have been nice to know before I made the purchase.
Now that I have it installed, we like it.

Q:
Do we need to buy risers for the stairs or just the laminate and the stairnose?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Just the flooring and stair nose. Generally you would cut off the existing overlapping stair nose even with the riser and then install laminate nosing and flooring. However, laminate flooring and nosing isn't a great idea for stairs, fine for one or two steps but we caution the use of it on an entire staircase. People do it but it can be unsafe. Check your local building codes. Hardwood flooring and nosing works great, when laminate IS used you must fully glue will 100% urethane adhesive without the use of padding, padding attached laminate must have paddling scraped off.Q:
can this flooring be nail down ?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
No. This is a floating flooring. Installation Details under "Specs" or click - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/assets/images/installation/dream_home.pdfQ:
Can this product be installed in a bathroom?1 answer
A:
This material can be used in a restroom, just remember to maintain the flooring using throw rugs and clean up water so it is not allowed to soak into the flooringQ:
How many total images are there for this product?1 answer
A:
You can use the Eco Silent under this 12MM Burnet Road Russet lamiante, I beleive there are close to 12 different images of this materail, to ensure an even installation you will have to install out of at least three boxes at a timeQ:
I have 2 boxers and wondering if anyone with dogs can tell me if this product is pet friendly?1 answer
A:
Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.Q:
Can a steam mop be used on this product? I hear that steam temperatures from various manufacturers can range between 110 degrees and 212 degrees.1 answer
A:
We do not recommend steam mops or Roomba Scooba robots on our laminates or on any of our wood floor products. Although appropriate for kitchen sheet vinyl or ceramic tiles, wood, laminate and cork floorings have raw seam edges that can swell or cup with use of these cleaning methods. We recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
I just bought 1100 sf of this flooring for my basement and it was recommended by the salesman to add the Quiet Walk underlayment to the order. I read in this forum that it is NOT recommended to install additional pad with this flooring. Why the discrepency?1 answer
A:
This Quiet Walk will provide sufficient support to the locking mechanism. We do not recommend our softer Dream home foam product under our laminates with attached cushion.Q:
Where is this manufactured?1 answer
A:
This is a product of China.Q:
We are looking for flooring for our seasonal home (Michigan winters) as we close it down so it is unheated. I understand that HPL flooring will work. Which floorings do you have that was HPL?1 answer
A:
we do not carry any high pressure lamniates.Q:
What type of laminate flooring can you lay down if your house is a peer and beam house?1 answer
A:
Provided the subfloor is flat within specs, any type.
